PS4 firmware 4.50 add Boost Mode for PS4 Pro.

I'm in the Beta YAAYY!!

This is MEGATON.

Gonna play GTA 5 to see if there are any benifits, has anyone else played this in boost mode yet?

This makes buying a Slim over a Pro an even worse value proposition.

Not really. I bought a Slim for my dad for ~$250 and it included Uncharted 4. I guarantee he wouldn't be able to tell the difference in performance for the majority of the games. A PS4 Pro would've been a waste of $150.

Thanks to a kind Gafer I made it into the 4.50 beta. The first thing I did was run to the settings and turn on beast mode. I have not been able to test any games yet because I am at work but look forward to diving into the update when I get off.

The year is 20XVII.

After a relevantly short but brutal battle, Nintendo and Sony's clash for the title of king of stability has ended.

Now, in these dark times, Sony goes unabated by releasing this all-encompassing mode aptly named "Beast mode".

And all hell broke loose...

Yeah finding a random corner in a random dungeon where unoptimized encounters happen are the furthest limits Bloodborne can be pushed to. Improvements to regular gameplay may not be as obvious but it sure as hell is making a difference.

It's strange, I keep thinking about games that didn't perform particularly well that I want to test now that this has happened. Then I remember that they've already had a Pro patch and I'm really disappointed.

Which is the exact opposite of how I'd been since the Pro launched as I was always really disappointed when I remembered that games hadn't received a Pro patch.

We are born of the Beast mode, made men by the Beast Mode, undone by the Beast Mode.

"Ahh, boost, or some say Boostmode...do you hear our prayers?

FF7 still runs battles at 15fps. disappointed. although expected. i just hoped it ran the same speed as the original on ps1. but nope :(
(AND i must say it's fucking pathetic square never fixed the music in the ps4 version of ff7 :( )

Honestly most of the Pro patches are disappointing because they've been focusing more on resolution than performance. :(

Asking for a Pro patch at the moment is like using a monkey's paw.

Destiny can drop framerate in the new DLC, most noticeable on Wrath of Machine, particularly Zamboni section, sometimes severe enough to crash the game. It's because the upped the enemy count drastically in the new DLC as it wasn't on last gen consoles while still using the same old engine.

Also most of the time load times in Destiny are variable because it's not the loading that takes time but rather the matchmaking, loading itself is rather quick. Particularly the case when you are going to a social space or joining a multiplayer game.
Definitely needs more testing. I'm the one who did the Destiny test that people are quoting. I do think there's a strong chance it makes a difference.

The "Orbit to tower" test I ran once in boost mode, once in standard, and then again in boost (each time you turn boost on/off you have to quit/restart the application). Both times the boost mode was right around 56 seconds. Now perhaps if I ran the boost mode off again it would have came down from 1:10, but I did get very similar results with the Iron Temple test as well.

I'd be curious for others to test multiple times and see what they get.

I've loved the supersampling although I do understand what you mean.

Perhaps it's worth reposting my earlier comment about Fallout 4 as an example.
This isn't my video but it could be an interesting one as it is actually getting a Pro patch next week.

Interesting as they're increasing the resolution, draw distance and effects quality which could mean that the unpatched Boost Mode version is going to be the best performing version you'll be able on play on PS4 as the Pro patch enhancements mean it probably won;t run as smoothly.

Sony should have done this day one.

Now the games with the optional 30fps switch you can turn off make sense all of a sudden :)

In the case of Fallout 4, I believe the Pro enhanced version will be the best between the two because the game is capped at 30fps.

Your HDD will be wiped if you try and hot swap.

You need to backup your HDD to an external HDD.

Once you put your HDD into the Pro it's going to make you wipe it.

If you don't want to do that, easiest method is to upload saves to PS+ cloud and redownload games on Pro.

If you keep your OG PS4 until you get a Pro, can't you directly connect the two via Ethernet and do a backup that way?

I know this is a super longshot, but any musou fans able to test DW8XL? That game had an abysmal frame rate on ps4 and I believe it's unlocked.

Is it? Ah, I thought it was an uncapped frame rate. Hopefully they'll managed to keep it steady then, even if it is at 30.
