My God this movie was amazing. This is now my favorite Keanu Reeves movie. Those fights he had with Common were impressive as hell. Just the whole tactical nature of how he took out enemies was so effortlessly enjoyable.

I really liked the first one a lot, but holy SHIT this blows that out of the water. What I loved the most out of the first was this assassin's world they set-up, and you learn a lot more about that here along with the absolutely ridiculous action. Keanu is such a boss.

Loved the ending too. Going again tomorrow cause I need to see it more.

Saw it tonight. I really enjoyed it, particularly the additional world building. The ending was better than the first, though that's a relatively low bar. I didn't care much for the first half hour or so, aside from the bits of humor at the very beginning. Still, I felt it recycled jokes from the first just a tad too much.

Superb amount of action too, but I've got to give the edge to the first one because it was just so refreshing. The home invasion and club scene were just so damn good. This feels like the same car with a fresh coat of paint. It's a damn good sequel, that's for sure—of the best.

This kind of reads like a tepid endorsement, but it really is a great film. Highly recommend.

Man that was good. The
concert venue shootout stuff
was just superb and better than the nightclub scene. My jaw was on the floor when
he was using the shotgun while he pinned the barrel down on the baddies chest, put one shell in and blasted him
. I can't fucking wait for the third installment.

Have they ever explained what those coins they pay for everything are worth? He gave the gun guy 1 for 4 guns, the blueprint guy 4 coins for the prints and they payed for their 2 drinks with 1 coin.

I'm a little disappointed with the ending no matter how impressive and cool they made it. I understand they want to set up a huge plot goal for a third movie, but the entire movie just feels like a set piece now for one epic battle. :/

Damn this movie was great. It's a bit slow with some set up in the beginning after the initial opening. But once the movie gets into the action, it really moves and never lets up. Common was a pretty great in it too and had some awesome action sequences.

I saw an advance screening back in december. The movie was unfinished. I wonder if my opinions still apply.

for me, the movie was uneven. The first half kind of sucked, up until he came back frok rome. When he was being hunted in ny, it became good though.

Does the movie still end with him chasing the villain to the hotel and killing him in the bar? They asked a lot of questions about the ending in our post viewing survey. I assumed they had filmed multiple endings and we're deciding on which to run with. Excommunicado?

The ending is
That, and then he confronts Winston in a park and Winston gives him an hour headstart before excommunicating him and essentially making it open season on John Wick worldwide. John flees, noticing dozens of people around him getting the word.

Spoiler-free review:

My biggest fear going into John Wick 2 was that the film would be too aware of how cool the first movie was, and use it as a crutch while being too in love with itself.

When the film starts, it honestly seems like that's the case.

However, once things get rolling it goes some really interesting places and honestly, I probably enjoyed it far more than the first film.

I think the first movie is a better film on its own (tighter, clearer story, standalone) but booooooy does John Wick kill a lot of fucking people in this movie. The action is way better than the first, and it helps that there's actually killers that actually pose a threat to him this time around.

God damn what a movie. Gorgeous visuals too

I really like how Winston
teared up as he entered the command to excommunicate Wick.
It just shows how
fond he is towards Jonathan in a surprisingly touching way.

Yeah they weren't afraid to fuck him up this time around. The number of times he gets shot, stabbed, manhandled, and hit by cars is crazy.

Do you really care about this shit?
I'm honestly asking, because seriously, I think it's pretty obvious they just wanted something that looks cool and a bit weird but still understood as money. It gives texture to this surreal world and it sidesteps the issue of people thinking things like "well that a lot of money for cleaning up a house" which is not what you want your audience to be doing.
Do you really think a movie like John Wick needs an expository dialog explaining how their monetary system came to be?
Yeah, you could come up with something, it's fiction, you can pull whatever you want out of your ass, but I think it will almost certainly be more boring than the light mystery that we have now.

That mindset is what got us the fucking Star Wars prequels and Matrix sequels.
I'm not saying you're responsible for them, that would be silly, but I am saying the Jar Jar Binks is 100% your personal fault and you should be ashamed.

It's really hard to compare this to the first movie, since it feels like a lot of the same. There's no way it can be as engaging and refreshing as the original since it's pulling a lot of the same tricks. If you remove the originality factor from the original though, I think it's easily just as good.

I felt like it ended too soon.
When the movie ends, you know there is know way that John Wick is going to be able to get himself out of this situation within 15-20 minutes so you kind of expect a cliffhanger. At the same time, I kinda feel like we needed at least one more big action sequence.

Random weird question: Was the sign language accurate?

I did also think about it, but I don't need an answer for it. It was interesting what was worth more than something else, even though I would think what was worth more would be less, and vice versa. But yeah in the end, it doesn't matter at all.

My thoughts exactly

For someone who saw it, can you explain the
marker scene at the end?

I'm guessing John can cash that in as a get out of jail free card or something from the Continental. Maybe won't call off the contract, but he can make a blood oath with someone so that he will return the favor down the line. I imagine someone out there will want John's skills over his bounty so it may come in handy. I don't know how it would work out, but a Wick and Cassian team up would be awesome. I'm actually surprised they didn't team up to take down Bad Guy. But I guess he had a knife in his aorta.

Reading through this thread I'm surprised to see people weren't digging
Rome

That's when the movie got interesting for me. Loved it

I thought this movie was very good

It's a different movie from the first in a few ways. There's less righteous vindication and more increasingly frantic desperation. It ends on a note that makes you go "I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT" and less "All's well that ends well (sort of)"

I've been calling it the Empire Strikes Back to John Wick 1's New Hope, and I'm curious if other people will agree. It's the dark middle chapter, but I'm pretty sure that if part 3 is the finale, there won't be any Ewoks

So are Cassian and the female bodyguard definitely dead? Or both still alive? Or one of the other? It seems a little cheap that they kept death ambiguous for the both of them. Kill a character or don't, but it is cheesy to try and have it both ways for two of the principal villains......especially when you do it the same way both times, with a knife stuck in each one's chest.

I think for some people it wasn't too different from what we got in the last movie.
It really introduced some new and inventive set pieces when he was being stalked in public by assassins. I really enjoyed Rome though. One of the best "gear up" scenes in an action movie ever. And anytime he faces off with Cassian was badass.

But what if there are

What if it's like Home Alone and he just sets up a base with traps and dogs

Cassian's alive as long as he leaves the knife in his chest. I imagine someone would have called 9/11 and he would have gotten help. Dunno about Mute Girl though. I don't know if she meant she'll be seeing John in Hell or if she's just incapacitated and will be returning.

Since people insist on the comparison, I'd say I liked The Raid 2 better. It just had much more interesting and enigmatic villains, plus a crazy car chase sequence. John Wick Chapter 2 was great, but it didn't seem nearly as ambitious and eager to strike new ground as Raid 2 was.

I can see that. I definitely had a feeling of "well we have to have another dance club shootout" (which was my favorite in the first) but it still ended up being awesome. Plus the bit with whatsherface in the tub was some eerie shit. As an Argento fan I'm a sucker for artsy kills

I think going on stage with the band was a bit much (also thought how they kept filming it like it was an actual performance was weird) but the music was cool and the headshots were flowing. All I could think while watching that scene was "this is the most videogame protagonist shooting a bunch of enemies scene I've ever seen"

The Rome
assassination
, however short it was, represented the essence of Hitman far better than both of the official movies combined.

So good.

Most of this movie felt like a videogame in a good way.

Rome felt like Hitman. New York felt like Assassin's Creed multiplayer or one of those open world Day Z survival games where you try to figure out who's trying to kill you and who isn't. Choosing your loadout and having safe haven zones. Using special currency to buy special services.

Just got out from my Thursday night showing. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, my favorite part was the world building involving the Continental and its partners. Love, love, love that "tasting" / outfitting scene. As usual, the Gun Fu was shot beautifully and were always fun to watch. Both John Wick movies are ace in my book, and look forward to another if they decide to make one. Keanu is a boss!

Holy shit chapter 2 was fantastic. The opening was great. I was so torn on whether to get a Mossberg 500 or a Benelli M4. Looks like this movie helped me make up my mind! Sommelier: "The Benelli M4, an Italian classic." John Wick: "A title well deserved."

I still believe he should've kept the 1970 Chevelle SS instead of bother with his 1969 Mustang. Fuck Mustangs.

I still don't know why NZ doesn't have any John Wicks at the theatres. I remember seeing the trailer for the first film and though I need to watch it, but I never saw it anywhere. It wasn't ever released on theatre, and looks like it'll be the same for John Wick 2.

Just wtf

Just saw it. Fucking amazing man.
Almost everything was better than the first.

the last setting was great with all those mirrors.

One gripe though, some civilians are oblivious while John is killing those assassins in public.
I didn't even ser one fucking cop after his house was blown. Lol

Question though:
will Cassian live? I thought he was great.

Did you miss Jimmy, he's in the first movie as well.

Gas leak, John?
