GameStop To Open 1,000 Nintendo Switch Reservations At Random In Stores on Saturday

I'd like to think that they probably secured enough to cover anyone who shows up and this whole "1,000 people" thing is just blowing smoke... but it is Gamestop. They probably would actual do something like this and piss people off. And how much do you want to bet that half the employees are going to show up on Saturday with people wanting to pre-order and not know wtf these people are talking about?

From what I've herd the companies communications with the stores lately have been damn well non-existent and I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of stores had no idea this was going on and then the stores get blamed for this promotion failing like the higher ups always would.

This month has really made my decision to leave the company a year and a half ago on point and then some.

It seems like the only difference between this and when you could do it normally is that with this you don't have to put any money down to reserve, while usually it's $50 down.

So...

Yay?
Does the email say that? i wouldnt jump to conclusion unless they said it.

Otherwise its gamestop tryna do reverse psychology on a 1000 boyz

This is exactly the kind of thing a higher-up who is clueless about how things actually work on a retail level would suggest. Will be a horrible mess in-store.

That reminds me of the time last year corporate sent my store eighty boxes of boogie boards out of the blue and then a month later revealed they were nearly free by the reasonable method of it showing in the circular that went out to customers.

Also this is dumb and seems like it's just going to end in tears.

Lol what a crock of shit. What, are these just canceled reservations that they made this "event" out of?

Prolly. That or a new shipment based on the presumed increased production alluded to (2 mil to 3 mil.) but probably the former. Either way, it's stupid.

Lol, and yet if they announced that they had 1000 more switches available and then they all went 1st thing in the morning you'd all be in here complaining too.

Yes it's stupid, and no you don't have to participate.

It is kind of weird. I just read the fine print and you don't have to put any money down if you get selected, they will just hold the until for 48 hours starting on March 3rd for you and after the 48 hours they can sell it. I guess those that were not be able to pre-order it is a chance. I think they anticipate people going in and buying something/trading something in since they are in the store. I personally will give a try since when pre-orders went up I was in the process of moving from California to Idaho, so I lost the opportunity to pre-order one.

I guess that's a good way to get some people in stores but there's such slim chances if you're actually trying to get one.

I'm not sure what their plan here is? We know they make very little money off new console sales anyways, so their thinking is a customer will walk in and ask "do you have any switch reservations?" and then be told no and then think "oh, well in that case, I'll just buy some sweet used games bro!"??

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
So whose idea was it? GS or Nintendo? I want to bet money on Nintendo. Probably to create more hype lol

On a positive note, maybe this thread can serve as a quarantine for Switch shitposts.

I went to GameStop today to buy a new XB1 controller and the guy behind the counter was so excited about this and genuinely thought it was such a cool idea. I thought he was joking at first because of how dumb it is but he wasn't. Such a weird thing to do, like why even make it into some event at all, just add the 1,000 back to the pre-order pool and let folks who actually want them get them.

So...wait. 1,000 random preorders in random stores across the US and they're asking people to come in and...just to ask see if they're lucky?

I am considering picking up my GS pre order and dumping my amazon pre order just so i can go in and spend $800 on new stuff and fuck up their COL bs

From a business perspective, I suppose I get it, but really, this is pretty shit. Cheers to the 1,000 who are lucky enough not to waste their time going to GameStop.

Please don't do this. If you really want to fuck GS in the long run, the best way is to not give them any business.
