Nioh |OT| Stamina is Ki

4 regions in I've already placed this game above all the Dark Souls games (never played DeS) and on the same page as Bloodborne.

I've always been hesitant to call Dark Souls as a favorite ARPG of mine because the scale/potential of combat in that game is too limited for my liking, and I'm not one to gush over every placed stones and broken painting- good for when I'm watching lore videos in my free time, not interested when I'm playing. The theme of Bloodborne and the trick weapons puts it higher than the usual Souls game for me. I do enjoy building my character in a variety of ways though!

Nioh improves on the things that I enjoy playing Souls games for- it has a deeper combat system and extensive character customization (just not creation), it suffers from variety shortage but that's an easier fix than a flawed foundation.

And really the more I play it the more I realize that the Souls mechanics that they straight borrowed are not as deep and extensive as the Diablo and Ninja Gaiden mechanics. It's all surface level.... with one exception and that is the Ki gauge.

ayyy were all running the same build. I think my weights around late 70s. What guardians do you guys use? Ive been using Enko

To be fair, there's only like 2 sets based around the axe and the Kaido smithing text is much easier to farm. I'm also running the Kaido set, but I think I'm going to do a mix of Kaido and Warrior of the West to get the extra close combat damage and damage boost when electrified.

edit: Not sure what my weight is right now, but percentage wise I keep it under 70% by using the pirate chest piece and Kaido everything else since the Do is the heaviest piece by a good margin. With WotW chest and waist I should still be able to keep under 70% since it's only medium armour.

My GS has been all over the place lately, but right now I'm using the butterflies for the evasion ki usage. I think I'm at like 88% right now lol. The Kaido bonus gives you extended use of the axe skill that raises evasion ki usage for reduced attack ki usage. Plus, it's water based so it can proc confusion if you hit the enemy with water and lightning statuses, and the WotW set sword is also +water. Not sure if I'm going to keep it though, as it was a bit slow to proc the water status on the last boss that I'd tried. Not sure what else to use though. Atlas Bear would be a strong contender, but I'd like to use something with a different element than my axe to proc confusion.

Okay, so I'm going to say it: Nioh is the best Souls-like game since Demon's Souls/Dark Souls. Incredibly well-made, engrossing, and the fun-factor is off the charts. It's also the perfect Souls/Onimusha/Tenchu mix I've ever seen. Currently on region 5 and cannot put this game down.

Yep i agree with this.

The magic is wearing off and I'm getting bored with it, I thought changing my weapon to normal Katana would make things more interesting but no. The DLC and PvP needs to come out ASAP.

I understand what you mean but we collectively have to stop using the phrase fun factor, unless you're ironically using gamepro faces.

Also you should be careful about the honeymoon period with this game for real tier lists, imo. That said, current rank: BB > Demons = Nioh > Dark 1 > Dark 2 = 3

Not worth beating a dead horse with the DS2 gripes, but DS3 was extremely phoned in, imo.

EDIT: Nioh's silly hat game is too strong. I can't decide

By "fun factor" I simply mean both the draw the game has when I'm not playing it to the complete satisfaction and unwillingness to put it down when I am. It's exactly what I meant - fun! 😊

For sword users, is there any sword better than the others? I'm in the 6th region.
Plenty of them. There can be quite a bit of difference in the base attack, parry and break values, as well as the inherent specials on certain ones. Kusanagi Tsurugi, Onimaru Kunitsuna, Sohaya Tsurugi, Sozasa Monji, Furiwakegami Hiromitsu, Nami-oyogi Kanemitsu. These are all blades that are generally better than the others. Raikiri as well, though it can generally be overshadowed by a Kusanagi Tsurugi as they have the same scaling special, but the latter has a better version of it, and you can freely try to re-forge an elemental attribute to it. Edit. Tengu-Kiri might be one of the better ones as well, but I don't have a copy handy atm to check.

Sohaya Tsurugi is the best option if you block a lot, as its parry value is a cut above the rest.

Having lots of fun doing NG+ co-op, after that will do the solo missions, get the platinum and wait for DLC, it's still early but most likely my GOTY.

Yeah that visitor helmet is so cool.
Definitely want a full set as well.

How many main story missions are there in region
6
?

Some of the side missions are getting tough, think I'm around 120 deaths and just got past the first main story mission in that Region, which someone told me is the last one

Really love this game, one thing that's impressed me is the variety of armor and weapons, always feels like with souls games you kind of hit a wall well before you'd like too - but I'm still seeing new sets drop after countless hours with Nioh

in one try. That was my favorite fight in the game so far. Took every healing item I had. Also the level was very nicely designed.

Honda + Tachibana dual boss down on first try. No onmyo or ninjutsu used.

The other dual boss will probably be harder.
The other is much easier. These fights are only a challenge on Way of the strong, but by the time you get there you will be overpowered as fuck. I was very disappointed with them.

This game has a very serious problem with this "set in stone" difficulty. Considering you can level up your character indefinitely, everything becomes trivial once you reach the end of the way of strong missions.

down. No Onmyo or Ninjutsu used, but I did use my bow/hand cannon and 3 Shingiku Medicines toward the end. Took like 6 tries.

The other is much easier.

I'm gonna have to disagree with this vehemently. Even the resident GAF action game badasses had trouble doing this dual boss without cheesing it. So unless you've got a video of a badass kill with no Sloth Talismans used, I'm gonna have to say this fight is infinitely harder than the H

achibana
fight.

When I first entered the shore mission I warped straight out haha, got some items checked changed some Ninjutsu and then went in and it was much much easier than expected. Not as aggressive as I thought.

Two Kings was BS though took me 3 attempts to do that and each took ages, couldn't even land a decent grapple because I would be knocked out of the animation. Really annoying that mission.

Decided to do co-op for the first time.

First was a normal mission, then two yokai realms.

The second yokai realm was real laggy, and in the third the dude just rushed to the boss and killed it in like 4 seconds lol

I had a dream last night that I found the last kodama that I need in the immortal flame mission.

What the fuck is wrong with me.

Does anybody know how to fix this? I beat endgame boss:
nobunaga
and triggered the cutscene but my game crashed. Now it loads me at the shrine and I can't enter the boss room anymore, don't know what to do besides restart the level and I really don't want to do that.

Final "special mission" and true epilogue done. Way of the Strong unlocked :D.

AND FUCK YEAH, THAT EPILOGUE IS CRYING OUT FOR A SEQUEL.

Edit: Good to see Tachibana is still a pushover in NG+ since you've already learned how to beat him.

Haven't had that kind of problem but if you want ask for co op until after you kill
nobunaga
since you done it already. From that point keep your solo adventure. Nothing will be lost there. 10 minutes is enough for that. Been one of my old farming routes.

I'm at world 4, did the n

(
toad
boss was awesome haha, not that hard but really cool design and fun to fight) and I do believe I'm about to meet an old friend from the Last Chance Trial... xD

I must say I have to agree with the complaints about enemy variety. Love, love the game, but c'mon, it could have been better there. 4 worlds in and I'm still encountering horned yokai (and rekins of).

I also kind of dislike the Twilight system. I finally cleared the Isle of Demons in Twilight 'cause it's the first time it's unlocked for me, but I was stupidly overlevelled for it and I breezed through. Didn't even need to rest at a shrine and the boss went down super fast. If I had tackled it earlier on it would have been a solid challenge, but it wasn't available. :/

I cannot beat

I swear the hours upon hours I've spent having my ass handed to by Tachibana retroactively made me beat the last 5 bosses in the second or third try.
Okatsu on my first try.

Arigato Tachibana-san for toughening me up.

Also I might begin to have an understanding of this "waifu" thing after meeting Okatsu for the first time. Helps that she's modeled after an actual person.

Pretty sure that's just hinting at the DLC

Ah you're probably right.

I am surprised I haven't seen nioh waifu polls yet

Well there are only like three options?

Apologies about the spoiler. I know it's too late for you, but I've fixed it in my posts. Problem is some people quoted me :(.

And yeah, the Twilight rotation is bullshit. But even if they didn't rotate, unfortunately there are only 9 different twilight missions (from what I've read in this thread); really wish there would've been one for every single story mission at the very least.

With this tactic , it's not that hard to take out

Yep, I ended up parrying him to death, just like you did.
