Amazon Cancelling Master Edition's of Zelda: BotW Orders

I am grateful many times that I have access to Military BX's (NEX / PX) around the world.

This is one of those times. My condolences to all you amazon pre-orderers, that's such a huge downer.

It's crazy that Amazon is cancelling orders with no rhyme or reason and stones people seem to give them a part because Nintendo. Who knows who's at fault but it's shitty how Amazon is cancelling orders randomly. I feel bad for the people with cancelled orders.

I feel for Amazon, no doubt Nintendo has cancelled their allocation in order to create some artifical demand, who benefits nobody except Nintendo and Scalpers. Nintendos loyalty to scalpers remains impressive.

there's no reason to further restrict the availability of an already 'limited edition'.

There is no reason whatsover for Nintendo to do this. So please stop those weird, utterly nonsensical, conspiracy theories.

Pretty sure he knows and is just having a laugh :p

Yikes. This thread heated up.

Scary to see JoyCons suddenly getting canceled too. I've got an open order for a set of those, so I'm wary now.
Reeeeally hoping Amazon or Nintendo address this; if this were to stay the only printing of the Master Edition ever, with this many orders having suddenly been canceled, it would quickly become another collector's nightmare. Gives me flashbacks to Ni no Kuni.
Goddamn shame.

Now preorders for JoyCons and JoyCon straps are being canceled by Amazon too? I didn't preorder those thing or the Master Edition of Zelda. But this thread is making me paranoid about the pre-orders I do have.

I feel so bad for people that got their pre-orders canceled. It sucks that it's so close to the release date too.

My order wasn't cancelled...
Yet

Mine is fully paid for by gift card, I wonder if that's a factor.

I've wondered that too. Since Amazon obviously doesn't prioritize by time of order. I wondered If orders payed off ahead of time by giftcards are moved to the front of the line?

But who really knows. I just hate that it seems random

This is a funny thread. Made my morning. I don't see the people thinking that a 10$ ticket is a "slap in the face" getting informed and fighting for the people that work for Amazon with ridiculous wages and the worst working conditions. So either care about that, or just shut up when it comes to be angry about a 100/150$ merchandising edition that you can easily buy. These people are the kind to shout at an online Customer service, even knowing that these people can't take any décisions and won't change the disturbance in your bourgeois life. Grow up with your rich problems and stop losing time on an online gaming forum because you wanted 50$ and not 10$.

Welcome to the hyperbole paradise, my friend.

It sucks for those that had their order cancelled, but the reactions are funny, indeed.

It's funny thinking that by whining in forums and spamming amazon communications it's gonna do a difference when they obviously keep preordering from Amazon (at least for stuff they cant find elsewhere). If they really want to make a difference they should check if there's any legal action they can take or what consumer right do they have and also stop using amazon.

Sucks this is happening, but isn't the much more likely scenario here is that Nintendo is at fault? Amazon has done this drill hundreds of thousands of times and Nintendo has a shitty track record with supply-and-demand.

Bleh. Well, secured a normal edition from Best Buy and settled on a different case. So, only thing I am out which would be cool to have is the Statue... I'll live :( It still stings but whatever. Got the new BotW amiibo to keep me company anyway. Looking forward to Switch Day next week.

Not having it I can handle. But thinking you had it for the last several weeks only to have it ripped away from you a week before launch and having to scramble to secure alternative replacements is shitty.

Doesn't explain why pre-orders seem to be being cancelled at random though, without any regard to when people pre-ordered it. That much is on Amazon at least for not being organized.

Hmmm I would be very curious as to how they prioritize pre-orders. I'm sure it's not random, but that doesn't mean it's a good way of doing it.

That sucks. I sold mine to a GAFer, so if it gets cancelled I'll have to refund him out of pocket and will have gift card balance in my account that I have no use for :/

I bought ("bought," hasn't shipped yet) my Switch from a GAFer. It getting cancelled is A HUGE fear of mine. Not because I think the guy will dick me over or anything, but then I'll have to figure out another way to get a system.

Eh idk. I had a Sailor Moon figure preordered and then Amazon literally canceled the order right before it was supposed to come out and the figure wasn't limited edition or anything.

It's not a funny thread.

I think we can all agree that games are inherently are a waste of time (but isn't everything a waste of time?)

But that's not the point of this thread is it?

This section of Gaf is for a community of gamers. The OP is reaching out to the COMMUNITY for support and to let the others know that this is happening. The others are expressing their disappointment to help cope with the fact that they had their hopes shattered.

Is this more important than anything else that's going on in the world? NOPE, but taking pleasure in other people's disappointment is lame as hell.

It's ignorant to say "grow up" to a collection of people who have similar interests.

This is a COMMUNITY and if this thread makes ONE PERSON feel like they aren't alone in this...then it has done its job.

That being said--it is not customer service's fault for cancelling the orders, so nobody should be yelling at them.

However, there are things like the better business bureau and I would advise that some start looking at them as a way to complain about the situation.

If they cancel my actual console order I will burn down a warehouse

Somehow this makes me feel happy that I preordered mine at Gamestop online and In store. While their allocations increased we had no word on Amazon getting more units officially.

I'm prepared to watch the Internet explode within the next week

The game is out in less than 7 days and 6 hours, so you'd think preload would have started already...

Was the last major preload release on Wii U Paper Mario? Because for that one there was an issue where people could start playing early (it was amazing) so perhaps they're skipping preload this time to avoid that possibly happening again. IIRC people said that would've been an easy fix on Nintendo's end though so I dunno, just idle speculation.

You blame Amazon but what if

Nintendo: You can have 25,000 copies.
Amazon: Takes 25,000 preorders.
Nintendo: JK, you can have 5k.

Isn't that more likely?

Seems like there should be a lawsuit in here somewhere, to protect consumers.

A person may have been able to get a limited good if they had purchased elsewhere. It's especially sad for those who preordered as soon as they could.

Zelda pre-load did go up in Europe somewhere and that's how it was datamined i think.
Thankfully it's now been taken down from nintendo servers and will likely stay down until just before release to try and stop any more leaks.

This look like Ni no Kuni Scenario all over again. Over Pre-order for the number of copies produce. This will skyrocket reseller price...

Lawsuit for what? There was no contract. All you have done is queue yourself in line for the product. The retailer does not have the item on hand. They issued a refund and have not run afoul of the FTC mail order rule.

Artificial demand for a one run only limited product? It doesn't work that way. Once this is gone its gone. With artificial demand for a console, for example, the idea is to sell more consoles later on. There will be no more Master Editions. It actually benefits no one as Nintendo would make more money if this thing was available at the same allotment as other CE's from pretty much anyone else.

His post was sarcasm. I think.

If anyone else gets canceled please post and let us know. I'd like to know if it's going to continue or if they already canceled enough to be able to fulfill the rest of their preorders.

I may be mistaken about his intention, but I think he meant a lawsuit issued by Amazon against Nintendo for costing Amazon lost revenue, wasted man hours, lost long term customer loyalty, etc.... There may actually be grounds if this is a case of Nintendo promising Amazon X number of pre-orders and then significantly decreasing those numbers, pissing off thousands of Amazon customers. That said, Amazon is a massive company and while annoying to deal with, this is nothing more than a blip on their quarterly balance sheet. They likely wouldn't risk ruining a recently repaired relationship with Nintendo over something so small. Its a big deal to individuals who had their MEs canceled, but it'd look pretty petty for Amazon to press forward with legal action in this case. And we'd have another Ninty generation where their hardware products aren't officially for sale on Amazon, which isn't good for anyone.

This is why I like collectors editions that don't have the actual game. Nintendo could take orders for a week, close orders, then make a production run to fill those orders. People wouldn't be as mad as they could still go buy the game however they like, knowing that their collectibles will arrive at a later date.
