As a psychologist let me just say that aside from the obvious thrombosis continuous sleep deprivation can be very dangerous and even deadly (check fatal familial Insomnia if you're curious), as it has been shown a certain number of times with MMO players in countries like South Korea, sadly.

My guess is that at some point Twitch will introduce limits about how many hours you can stream per day or per week. It needs some kind of regulation.

RIP. Solo charity famines/marathons are a disaster waiting to happen, especially for people who aren't used to doing them and have no idea of the health risks of things like sleep deprivation and deep vein thrombosis.

He could feel like he's fine for hours, and then when he gets up, a blood clot moves from his leg to his lungs and suddenly it's all over.

Always scared of something like this happening. Sometimes I'm going through 50+ hours of no sleep and feel awful.

Anyways RIP PoShYbRiD.

Why are you going that long without sleep?

People doing a 24hr games marathon once a year are not an issue in the grand scheme of things but people almost doing it multiple times a week seems really dangerous.

RIP to him, 35 is way too young to go.

For anyone who streams (or works sitting down long periods of time) I can't stress how important it is to take breaks and get up and move around. If you sit for long periods of time blood doesn't move up from your legs and this can lead to blood clots.

Is it not more probable that he would die from a thrombosis while still being seated? It sounds like a coincidence that he died exactly after standing up, and while not being on camera. And the family is not releasing details. I've never watched any of his streams, so I have really no idea about his personality or his history, but somehow it sounds to me like this could have been a suicide?

It's the movement that dislodges a clot. So you can sit there and think you're fine, while a clot forms in a vein (usually the leg). Then you move, the clot moves, and ends up in your lungs, constricting your breathing.

Edit: Lungs, not heart; and veins, not arteries

Oh, this is how it works? I had no idea. Thank you.

RIP. Read about it on another page. Always sad when something like this happens. Maybe it is time for an initiative to educate (especially younger) streamers and youtubers about the risks? I know a lot of 12 to 14 year olds who want to be the next big youtube star and sit in front of their PC's for hours on end.

wtf?
35 is not 80
in fact you should be at peak(physically and mentally) at 35

Oh, and this is bollocks. Mentally you peak at around 23 to 25. After that it's just going downhill. Physically no idea, I guess it always depends on how active you are living.

So I'm not sure what's wrong with me, but I'm still waiting for the details to come out. I find the stories about people who died playing video games, like all the MMO stories 10-15 years ago, really interesting.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — Police are investigating the death of a popular Virginia gamer who died during the home stretch of a 24-hour marathon video game session he was streaming online to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

News outlets report that 35-year-old Brian Vigneault was about 22 hours into playing "World of Tanks" on Twitch.tv when he stood up from his computer early Sunday to take a smoke break. He never returned.

Vigneault was found unresponsive at his Virginia Beach home later that evening and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Virginia Beach police spokeswoman Tonya Borman says police don't suspect foul play in his death. His cause of death is unclear.

Vigneault's Twitch profile says he had raised nearly $11,000 for various charities during his 5-year streaming career.

Report me for trolling ND/TLoU2 threads
wonder if he had clot problems and all the sitting made it worse and a blood clot got released when he went to go out

That's terrible. Rest In Peace As was said above, might have been clot related. I recall that has happened before in incidents like this.

I've been thinking for a while that these 24 hour stream events were potentially hazardous to peoples' health.

The cause is just, but there are surely safer ways to raise money.

Could be that or his heart gave out from sheer exhaustion. It increases blood pressure and makes the heart work harder. It's just a really bad idea to stay up an entire day or more.

I don't know why people do this or encourage it. It's dangerous and should be banned or at least discouraged by streaming services.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
A reminder to the rest to not take your health lightly.

Streaming services could do with a timer cap that kicks you offline for an hour after 12+ maybe, only disabling it for big mutli people events.

They are definitely unhealthy. You shouldn't really sit for more than 1 hour at a time without breaks.

That'd be incredibly shitty thing to do to streamers when this guy's death is probably do to multiple factors. The mere fact that he streams so often just means also there was a better chance that he'd die while streaming. A heart attack at 35 is tragic but it's not rare.

Is this the same guy as the last one? If not, damn. Streamers need to...calm tf down a little. For their family's sake, if not their own.

Either way, rip. :/

Agreed. Doing anything for that long isn't healthy. Marathons serve to draw attention, but you can draw attention in so many other ways that aren't so unhealthy. It reminds me of those dumb contests in the late 90's where people kept their hand on a car and the last one standing was the winner.

That's terrible news. Especially to have that happen during a charity stream. Rest in peace and my condolences to the family.
