Middle-earth: Shadow of War: First Gameplay Video

I really enjoyed the first one.

Looks like I will enjoy this one too.

Wonder if they will try to fit this at all back into cannon by the end of it or in a possible 3rd game :lol

Where is the challenge in this video? Like can you lose at all? Does not seem so.

Game demos especially first looks make the players near invincible. They're demonstrating / showcasing. This has been done literally for decades.

I really liked the first one, and suffice it to say, everything in that gameplay video was right up my alley.

Doubling down on the Nemesis system was always going to be the way to go.

Also, if I remember correctly, there was a batman like fighting system where you could only pull off the executions after a certain number of hits in a row. You can see in the bottom of the screen that the option for executions never goes away. The player is probably playing on easy and with unlimited executions.

I'm just surprised more games haven't ripped out that system since it came out.

Keep in mind this is far into the game they said. If its anything like the first, early game will be brutal and quite difficult but as you gain powers you become much more god like on the battlefield.

Also its a demo, they aren't going to show the player getting their ass beat, the point of the walkthrough here is too show all the tools at your disposal / new features

Yea, demos are rarely a good guage for how difficult a game could be since more often than not they are played with invicibility and other cheats. Coming off the first game I recall the devs saying that the lack of a hard mode and things getting so easy in the second half were their biggest regrets, so hopefully those things will be addressed here.

I wasn't too interested until I saw the video. Looks like alot of variation has been added, that fort capture looked great.

The game still looks ugly as sin and after the first one was really bad and overhauled due to 2014 being dry I'm really not looking forward to this. I don't see what you all see in this. Even the Nemesis system was pointless unless you absolutely sucked ass at the game.

Looks great. I wonder if it will be necessary to play the first or if the preferred route will be to skip straight to this. I'd rather the latter just to save my own time, but wouldn't want to miss out. If this is more of a vastly improved refinement rather than a straight sequel where I'll have to play the first to enjoy this, then I'll skip picking up SoM.

btw ... can the name be anymore generic? it has that cheap mobile games vibe

"Mordor" was the only unique word on it's name and they replaced it with "War"

it's gonna be 2017's sleeper hit indeed.

Super hard Conan vibes I love it.

Why is there a dragon in this? I thought they were pretty much non-existent in Middle Earth (after Smaug's demise).

Gameplay looks interesting, but tonally the narrative and setting scream to me "this is a middle-earth self-insert fan-fic written by an edgy 15 y.o. kid trying to make Tolkien's lore 'cooler'"

Just watched it. That was fucking awesome, but I'm not sure there will be so many variations of cutscenes or events or that all the orcs can call each other by name, like the fire orc did with Stormbringer.

Wow. I've been wanting to play the first for some time, but after seeing this I need to play the first ASAP. This looks amazing.

This seems like a really nice idea, but the Lotr nerd inside of me just can't get over how stupid it all is. Any generic fantasy setting would be vastly preferable, what is even the connection to Lord of the Rings at this point?

Also seems like they've taken a lot from Mount and Blade, based on that army system. Anyone wanting to figure out how the game might be like would do well to play the M&B mod, The Last Days of the third age.
Agreed. Like, I'm still going to play it, but I feel like should apologize to Tolkien's grave every time I boot it up.
