Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I'm just going to interrupt all the asset sniffing here, and knowingly sac-last-post-on-page this very impressive Ifrit video.

I believe it's the same guy who did the aerial combat showcase at a Korean expo before the game released.

Probably the most eye candy FF battle ever.

When the game first came out, there was confusion over whether Aranea was Bahamut, mostly due to his eyelashes. The full face makes it even more obvious that the assumption was unfounded.

It kind of makes sense with the semi-realistic world direction they wanted to go with - look at how they even added an undershirt to his standard costume for the Abbey Road promo image.

An open-shirted all-leather ensemble is pushing things as it is, going entirely shirtless on top of the rest could have been weird.

There were a couple of scene focusing on Bahamut eyes that I was expecting some kind of revelation about him but still didn't happen.

About shirtless Gladio I can agree on the reasons but honestly the semi-realistic world thing is something should stick with Versus. FFXV is semi-realistic as it was FFVII.

Finally finished the game this past Sunday. Really enjoyed the game. Here's what I wrote my friends:

Finally beat the game. The final battles were epic. The whole 10year skip was cool too. It was definitely one of the saddest FF's since like FFVI when Kefka actually won. Loved the game through and through. So much stuff cut from what Nomura had in mind tho. The Leviathan fight lacking what all was in that E3 trailer hurt. Also no Insomnia escape hurt too. Overall I think Nomura's Versus XIII was the game I had been waiting 10 years for. The FFXV we got was completely Tabata's. It's good. Up there with the best of Final Fantasy's if not the best to date in many respects. However Nomura's vision was going to be probably one of the best games ever made...like I still remember every single preview. That story was probably be even more heart wrenching with Stella and Noctis fighting each other, with Etro being actually involved, with Aranea playing a bigger role, etc etc. The combat was probably be better too. Nomura is FF's Kojima. VERSUS was his dream project. But hopefully he'll transfer those efforts fully into KHIII. I loved FFXV overall tho. It's just not the 10 year game I think I was waiting on.

So is this whole Pitioss Dungeon being the explanation for the story what everyone is running with now? Someone sent me a video from some YouTube channel called Final Fantasy Peasant and it seemed pretty solid. But I'm literally just now looking into the full story stuff so I'm not sure.

Glad you enjoyed the game. But...um...those sure are some assumptions you had about Versus...

when was this actually stated?
That's my head cannon. Remembering how she was presented in the Nomura trailers she seemed completely different I guess.

Hey I was in high school, 10th grade to be specific, when. Versus was first revealed. So lots of speculation on my end. Who really knows what it would've been...

It's a shame such AMAZING and WONDERFUL boss was totally unexplained ingame. I will be ever mad for learning about Ifrit's role from some Gaffer literally reading the oficial guide.

And Shiva even says something about his first defeat, during the final battle. Sometimes this game is insulting, like the stop in Tenebrae with a quest name like "Where she lived" without showing anything of Tenebrae. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Didn't Aranea just appear in that 2011 TGS VersusXIII trailer where the then-unnamed dragoon just lands on the flying craft? There wasn't much of any character to gleam from that, not that I could recall. :p

And that latter point... Man, on top of announcing a game really early, especially when it's a series like Final Fantasy with its own baggage to deal with, then add on individual speculations on how the ethereal themes and characters of VersusXIII might have played out? The shift from VersusXIII to XV is always going to be an albatross that XV reception can't ignore, huh? Stella's just one soul in the spectral legion that will always haunt this game...

Though wouldn't VersusXIII be the Fantasy that's now based in FFXV's reality? >_>

(Yoooo, I was in 10th grade when the Fabula Nova Crystallis trilogy was unveiled too! I remember being overcome with emotion at my computer desk after watching the 15 minute MGS4 trailer. SNAKE PUT A GUN IN HIS MOUTH!!! ;-; XD)

I think I'm pretty late to the party, but I read the Engine Blade description for Nier Automata.

I'll just pick up the pieces of my broken heart, shall I? Wah.

What is the Pitioss dungeon explanation in regards to the story?

Regarding Aranea, I can't find a source and the interview is probably lost in the abyss but I distinctly remember Nomura saying that the dragoon lady wasn't that important to the story and just a low level boss you'd fight from time to time.

Maybe Tabata actually increased her role.

Damn that's slick. I also appreciate seeing some counters and QTEs I didn't know about in my play through.

Regarding Hellfire, maybe its just me but I swear at some of the interludes/bridges I hear some motifs of the 3 main battle themes that okay in the different world map regions. Or my musical aptitude is severely novice...

that puzzling face
Ifrit's music is basically one of a group of pieces meant for the summon battles. It has a lot of nods to Apocalypsis Noctis. Even the opening phrase is a modal version of the melody people observe as similar to Elder Scrolls.

You walk a dangerous line, my friend. *salutes*

Nah, I elaborated on something Suzuki-san already recently tweeted but decided it wasn't really my place to signal boost or dive into details.

The bridges are from Apocalypse Noctis, as is the third phase. The part that plays as Shiva defeats Ifrit at the end is from Cosmogony. There might be other stuff in there I've missed though.

I finally finished XV.
I really enjoyed the gameplay and combat, Prompto's photos, a lot of the overall mechanics, and I LOVED the banter between the characters as you did stuff. I had a lot of fun with the quests and exploring around the open world bit. The dungeons were awesome. (One of the most tense, funnest parts of the game was when I stumbled into a dungeon Cindy sends you to on one of her quests that was almost too strong for me. I barely made it out alive omg)

The story was horseshit, though. I mean, what they had planned could have been super interesting and I don't think it was a bad idea at all, but how they portrayed it was so underwhelming. They really needed like 840382043x more cut scenes, and less having characters standing there and telling me about what happened after the fact. It felt super, super disjointed, and a lot of things felt confusing and hard to follow for me simply because they didn't take the time to flesh out what was happening. Like, I am still so ??? over Prompto's bit about being connected to MTs. That felt so out of nowhere and like it should have been a lot more important of a story element than they presented it as.

I also felt like every character besides the bros and possibly Aranea and Talcott were completely wasted. There was so little character development outside of Noctis, and the bros, Aranea, and Talcott were the only ones I felt really grew or progressed in any substantial way we could see -- and even then it was super barebones for them.
Every other character was such a waste of an interesting design. How they handled Ravus was especially cringeworthy, and what about Loqi or Cor or... anyone, really? I saw more cut scenes with the generic looking quest givers than majority of the uniquely designed characters. :/
Luna was terrible, too. Her character was so boring, and they provided no reason for me to care about her at all and then she's dead. Her cgi scene in the middle of the game was super, super beautiful, though. I really wish they had done more stuff like that.

And then another thing that really bothered me, is it felt painfully obvious to me that they didn't want anything to do with the spiky haired edgy jrpg character look they originally had when it was Versus. They clearly tried to move away from that so hardcore, but knew it was too late to change Noctis and Co's designs. It made a lot of stuff feel clashy to me. Ten year later Noctis was especially jarring. While the bros p much looked the same but older, Noctis looked like a completely different character and it kinda lessened a lot of the more emotional friendship scenes because it didn't feel like it was him.
I also thought it was cheap that they told us almost every major character was still alive 10 years later but didn't show us any of them besides aged up Talcott. That felt like a really missed opportunity to go see everyone and where they ended up before heading off to the final battle. And it further added to the feeling that the 10-years-later stuff was out of place and disjointed to the rest of the story.

The only story elements I remotely cared or felt anything for, was when it was related to the bros. They were the only thing they spent time on to give us an emotional connection to. Ignis going blind was great, and broke my heart. (Although I hated that they didn't SHOW us, just had Noctis waking up and there's Ignis like lol hey dude i'm blind fyi.) But I loved that they added it, cuz I haven't really seen anything like how they handled that in a story -- especially a game -- before. I also really enjoyed them showing the photos you took before the final battle, and the scene of the four bros after the credits.

Overall, it was definitely a really fun game to play. I'll probably play it again someday just because the battle system and photos and banter is really enjoyable. But usually the reason I wanna replay games is because of the story and characters. If xv wasn't so fun with its combat and whatnot, I'd probably never pick it up again cuz the story was so unsatisfying. :(

Regarding Noctis' facial features, the difference the stubble makes is worth noting - some people were convinced that he had a totally different face in the ending, but this glitch shows that it's just the regular older Noctis face clean-shaven. Though it also makes the disparities with the younger model even more plainly apparent.

In hindsight, it might have been for the best to nudge younger Noctis' facial proportions more in line with the older variant - it wouldn't have looked that out of keeping with the original design.

Older Noctis is such a handsome man. Seeing aged versions of other FF characters is now my new aesthetic.
I REALLY hate the older man model's head on the Prince default armor that you rock for the like ten minute segment. It looks just as weird as going back and putting the end of game armor on past Noctis after finishing the story

Wish they just had those as full outfits you could use in the past instead i.e. with the face changes as well.

Tho Prompto looks hot af in his end of game outfit but barf at that shitty little beard.

Gladio and Noctis are the only ones I really like post timeskip. Prompto has the superglued beard and Ignis looks like Space Dandy or something, idk.

Old Ignis kinda reminded me of David Bowie with the hairdo and sunglasses

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
They all looked ace, IMO.

It's harder to tell, but Prompto's face looks older/rounder besides the beard. His hair is different too.

I went to Pitioss last night to explore some more (since I only did the six minute glitch to the end before and was fascinated by that video linking the dungeon to Eos and Ifrit) and then I found out that the Aranea glitch was patched and she'd never rejoin me permanently again. 😢

Luna is a poor character born in a 10 years of pure mess between an incompetent genius and hard working but uninspired man , also being a replacement for a woman who is viewed to many as strong antagonist .

And after all this fuckery she ended being a Yuna clone with a few minutes screen time where many men abusing her and Tabata and his team trying to pull an Aerith moment for a character we only interact with for just few moment and with any backstory beside Saving the world cliche.
