He deals negative status effects whoch can screw you over
His regular attacks are fine but when ur confused or stunned And skipping turns it all adds up to a crushing defeat

Final boss in Quantum Break, mainly down to shit game design and bad balance. But fuck was that a piece of shit frustrating fight. Died more there than Orphan of Kos, easily.

My memory has got the best of me at the moment. But the one that sticks out the most is Stella Glow.
Eve
seriously kicked my ass over and over and over.
I became so frustrated that I ended up not playing the game for two months, then I went back and finally defeated the boss and finished the game. Whew! Now I just have to try new game+ :(

Thanks for posting this. I actually should finish that game now.

I submit the following:
Sturm from Advanced Wars

Goddamn that last level was hard.
Thanks for triggering that long suppressed nightmare of mine

Right here.

Most bullshit boss I have ever encountered. You need legit LUCK to beat this motherfucker.

not really..

my party: Zidane, Freya, Quina, Eiko

Start cast regen on all party, then have Quina cast might guard on all party, then have Eiko cast Quebunca (reflect) on all party....then Zidane and freya just continue to wham on the boss for 9999 physical attack continusly. For added fun, cast reflect on the boss. If need heal, use Freya's healing wind instead of cure (due to Reflect being active). All the boss's elemental spell will not work on the party when reflect is active (and instead will be reflected back to the boss) and other attack will be negated by regen. Repeat to win.

Easy pansy..

Now Ozma is a whole different ball game.

Why cast Regen when you have Auto-Regen ability? WTF is Quebenca? I wouldn't bother with that reflect since the Agas don't even do that much damage. Neutron Ring and Meteor do though. Just need to be prepared to have Curaga ready for one of those.

i mean carbuncle...i don't remember FF summons by heart :p

Firaga and thundaga can easily downed a weak Eiko so reflect is just to be safe......and for fun. Nothing's more amusing when all the boss's attack got reflected to attack itself. :p

and i don't think everyone can learn auto-regen.....

For me, the final boss of Dark Souls was by far the hardest. I hear that he's actually easy if you parry him. Unfortunately, I was playing with a two-handed sword build and couldn't parry (in Dark Souls you can only parry if you have a 1-handed weapon and a shield), and I wasn't about to go back and level up a new weapon and learn that fighting style since I just wanted to finish the damn game at that point, so I powered through and eventually beat him after many, many deaths.

Also - Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. The difficulty is already very uneven between bosses and regular enemies, but the imbalance is even more insane with the final boss. You might think that being able to beat the also difficult bosses before the final boss would be an indication that you have a chance. You would be wrong. It hits harder than any other boss before it, and you have to fight four variants of it, sometimes two at once.

For me this is most games. I never got the supposed "the earlier bosses in the game are the hardest," trope, for me it's usually the last boss that's the hardest. Maybe I just get anxious because I get in my own head and tell myself that the final boss is going to be hard, lol.

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.
Already knew Armstrong was gonna be one of the most popular answers in here. Like others have said, he functions as a really excellent final exam. It felt pretty satisfying to finally take him down, because the victory was earned.

I'll never forget the constant expressions of frustration and bewilderment in the original OT. Wave after wave of people discovering just how CRAZY difficult this guy really was compared to anything else in the entire game.

I had a total of 22 deaths my first time through the main campaign. 20 of those deaths were from Armstrong alone.

I honestly didn't think he was that hard and it always surprises me when people say he was because I'm no expert at the game. If you know how to parry then he has a pretty basic attack pattern. It just takes some time to take him down.

My addition to the thread: Fight Night Champion. Fuck Isaac Frost.

Illusion of Gaia and Secret of Mana

Had hard bosses at time for me

For both these games I found the last boss to be quite easier than a few others before, especially Castoth and Tigror which were nightmares for me the first time.

Recently in SMT4 A the last boss is much much harder than any other boss in the game and by far.

That bla bla bla Android Cactus game as well. At least I believe its the last one because I coudltn beat it yet,

I haven't read through the whole topic, but I'd say Phantom (the giant lava spider) from Devil May Cry probably qualifies for this. Prior to him you've only fought a handful of Marionettes and it puts you in a fairly small room and your guns are completely ineffectual against him, so you need to learn to get up close for a few hits and then back away or dodge to avoid any counterattacks (which includes maybe its hardest attack where flame columns shoot out of the floor). Using Devil Trigger here is extremely helpful, but at this point you may not have even used it and won't have a lot of charge.

Other bosses in the game are hard too, but due to taking place later in the game where you're more experienced, have more items and higher stats I didn't find any of them as troubling at Phantom due to how soon the game springs him on you.

I actually read the title wrong and thought it said "Games where the first boss is actually the most difficult boss". D'oh.

I remember struggling pretty significantly with the final boss of Xenoblade Chronicles,
Zanza
.
Another RPG, FFXIII. Everyone hits a wall with Barthandelus, but I found Orphan to be much more intense.

I think NMH2 definitely takes the cake, though. It's been mentioned a few times already, but god damn if that fight isn't one of the sharpest difficulty spikes I've ever experienced. Whew.

I agree with this. I had to cheese him after numerous tries. It doesn't help that the run to the boss is rather perilous and long.

Bloodborne however has several optional bosses that are more difficult than the main final one. I think only the DLC boss counts as being one of the most difficult.

Same for Dark Souls 3. Final main game boss is easier than a certain optional boss. Maybe easier than first DLC boss. I expect the final DLC to introduce something really tough and unfair.

Can't think of a single Shoot 'em Up final boss that ISN'T the most difficult required boss, excepting True Final Bosses and joke final bosses (which are pretty rare)

I found the orange tiger more difficult than the final boss in Secret of Mana. Also, there's a part of the game early on with branching paths and one of the boss fight in it is against a bunch of werewolves in the witch forest or something. Those werewolves are tough as fuck.

Bloodborne. Works for both the main game and the DLC I think.

I'd beg to differ on this...

Original game : Martyr Logarius , it almost took me 3.5 hours to beat him, primarily the path to reach him adds to the frustration

DLC : Ludwig the Accursed / Holy Blade, I really needed to level up quite a bit to face him, this by far is the best boss battle in the entire game IMO. All the other bosses were also pretty good in the DLC. My favorite weapon was Rakuyo, getting this was a serious achievement for me.

Diddy kong racing. Whats that giant pig name again? I love that game way more than mario kart but that boss made teenager me furious. In fact I'd like to replay it to see if it was really hard or I just sucked.

Wizpig. Yes, it's that hard, or harder. Really insanely tough!

I found Ludwig the hardest boss in Bloodborne. I was not able to beat him without help in any one of my three walkthroughs.

I also say Metal Gear Rising related to the topic: Armstrong's fight is amazing. The music, the fire... Just, wow.

Dark Souls 1. I was almost in tears of frustration trying to defeat Gwyn. He moves way too fast and I suck at parrying. It took me 19 tries. Don't think I'd struggle as much now that I've played Bloodborne where bosses require quicker thinking and reactions. Going back to Dark Souls and all the bosses feel so sluggish and give you plenty of time to react.

I say Gwyn too. If you can't parry by the time you face him, you're in for a really tough fight as he is so aggressive and quick to get up close and personal. Its an easy fight if you can parry, or if you have Crystal Homing Soulmass though, but if not its as hard or harder than anything else you'll come across in the game.
