It's interesting because someone's life path is unfolding on camera/social media. Leaves lots of room for commentary. What kills me watching him on Reuben Report is how he contradicts himself at times without having the introspection to realize it. He keeps pushing for logical solutions in some cases while outright dismissing facts elsewhere.

It's a decent enough show, but they should not have kept the Beyond name, they aren't Beyond. Not that it matters I guess.

It was Beyond before Colin even worked at IGN...I don't get how people think the name should have somehow been retired when they left. Should they call IGN something else as well? Maybe we should change the name of the internet because Greg Miller decided to start his own website. If Max, Marty and Brian aren't Beyond, then neither are Greg or Colin.

Never thought that Colin was so influential to arise a 79 pages thread. Colin was right was the only segment I watched on kinda funny, I will just cancel my subscription.
A quick search shows in the past three months alone, Colin commanded enough attention here that he had a bunch of threads generated about him, even overlooking the ones from the past few days. People paid attention to him.

The truth though many here will hound you to the ends of the earth for posting it.
How is it the truth when the very statement of it being about his personal life is demonstratively false? This shit is about how he carries himself in public.

Now that the dust is starting to settle (there's nothing else to talk about, really), I'm just bummed that I don't get my fun podcasts anymore. I don't yet see the positive side to any of this, nor see the productive side of it. I guess we'll have to wait and see how both KF and Colin rebound. For now, I'm just bummed out.

They call him a bigot because he has made disparaging remarks about diversity and sexist jokes.

Guess what that makes someone? A bigot. No one here decided Colin was a bigot. Colin did that himself by stating bigoted remarks.

Wait can someone give a summary on what's going on?

This thread is utterly huge, so something has clearly happened or followed on from the OP which isn't obvious

On the bright side, consider it an opportunity to find a good replacement.

Colin has been becoming more and more politically leaning of late (some people might say to an asshole-ish degree). Politics are incredibly divisive topic. His co-workers just want to run a fun gaming website. Colin wants to talk politics. They decided to part ways.

Someone leaked info Colin likes his steaks well done, and that shit ain't acceptable. This is somewhere all of GAF can band together and agree.
at least I hope, there better not be a well done defence force

On topic, new Colin FB message

I just wanted to let you all know that I've seen -- and continue to see -- the ridiculous outpouring of support you've been shooting towards me. Thousands of you have reached out and/or said kind words, whether it's on Twitter, or Facebook, or Reddit, or YouTube, or e-mail. I received more texts and DMs yesterday than I probably received in the previous six months combined. I couldn't possibly answer everything even if I tried, but I'm reading as much of it as I can, and I appreciate all of the good vibes so many of you are sending my way. I had no idea I touched so many lives to this extent, and it makes me feel good to have had such a positive effect on so many of you. For what it's worth, so many of you have had an equally positive effect on me.

The point? I hear you, guys and gals. Loud and clear. And I tip my hat* in your direction.

The future looks awfully bright. It's amazing how many hands have been offered to me, and how many doors are creaking their way open. It's astounding how many good folks are out there willing to help, and to those people: You know who you are, and I appreciate you more than you know. Change is hard, the unknown is scary, and these heroes have worked to make it just a little easier.

My family, in particular, has been nothing short of stellar. My mom and dad, my sisters and brother, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law, uncles and aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins, my best friends Ramon and Mike, and so many others from both past and present. I've never seen a squad so quickly form a phalanx in front of someone they love, led steadfastly by my amazing girlfriend, Erin, who has been by my side every millisecond. The absolute love of my life, and the rock I can count on not crumbling. My family is as fucking real as it gets, that much is for sure.

Let me thank all of you again for your kindness. Not only does it not go unnoticed; it's the fuel that's keeping me going until you and I finally talk about what's next.
More soon. -Colin

Easy Allies!

Already a Patron, I absolutely adore them. Hope this never happens to them.

At the moment, I honestly expect Colin to be back pretty soon. It just seems like a mistake. If he doesn't, that would be a shame. Or good, if the new content he produces is better.

From what I can gather....Colin started bringing his politics into KFG more and more and wanted it to be more of a a games/politics thing, and made made several sexist remarks etc etc...whole thing drove a wedge between him and his co workers and he quit/got fired etc. I don't know how the thread has got so long since then.

We should have seen this coming after this tweet.

Obviously, a mistake but the timing is funny.

Lol, I could go for a Keighley podcast. His Final Hours of...features were fantastic.

This martyrdom-complex is embarrassing. Don't act like people are just frothing at the mouth, ferociously attacking anyone who doesn't agree with some fanatical beliefs. A lot of people don't want to see Colin's brand of stale, hostile sexism get trotted out so they speak up about it. As a person representing a company, he faced consequences for reflecting poorly on their brand. That's just basic business. Does anyone here hate Colin? Probably not. Personally, I have no feelings toward the guy whatsoever. Who gives a shit about him? He's just some guileless rube tossing out undergrad freshman political logic. What I do dislike is people trotting out warmed-over sexism for cheap laughs. Why would anyone be especially angry about this? People can discuss his dumb comments without being whipped into a mindless rage.

Your comment is just another cheap outrage culture/PC oppression/SJW-bashing shitpost. The hive-mind is oppressing you and taking away your free speech, man. PC culture is way worse than sexism after all. If you can't say anything you want about anyone at any time without having to deal with the fact someone might dislike that, what is even the point of society?

Colin is specifically against "diversity for diversity's sake," whatever the fuck that means.

I know this is rhetorical, but it ends-up meaning everyone should be white males unless there's a specific reason for them not to be. It ends-up meaning that authorial intent is imperative, unless part of that intent is to include a diverse cast, in which case it's the Worst Possible Thing.

This is correct. The default state of humans is straight, white, male. Anyone else must have some justification attached. After all, the vast majority of people on the planet are straight, white, guys. It only makes sense they would receive proportionate representation.

Just gotta say I appreciate the level of professionalism all the dudes are at, considering it's very, super, loudly obvious there's bad blood as a result of all of this. I doubt I'd be able to maintain it.

It means don't just shoehorn in a minority for the sake of being diverse.

For example, don't make your main character in your game a black lesbian just because blacks, women, and homosexuality are underrepresented in games. Do it for interesting narrative instead.

Or in more simpler terms, don't have diversity in the game as a bullet point in the back of the games cover.

Okay, but why is the default template white male?

Why is no justification required to have a white male as a games protagonist?

That argument is heavily flawed.

There isn't and it's wrong. Create what you want to create.

I'm just explaining what he means by that statement.

Right, sorry I didn't mean to suggest that you were saying it. Apologies. Just the flaw with the argument Colin was putting forth.

Uncertain if so. A few of my longer posts were to attempt to distill how Greg and Co can still very much be friends with Colin, if not best friends. Business wise it might be causing stress as paperwork and finances are involved, but Greg knows Colin better than anyone, and has lived with the guy. He'll know how brash and idiotic he can be. The guys were visibly upset all of this is ending.

Instead of bad blood, I'd just think frustration Colin kept pushing buttons, but ultimately the private conversations behind the scenes probably led to it inevitably being clear if not from this incident, the writing was on the wall for Colin's future with KF anyway. I still believe getting on Rubin was the last shot to the ego/head Colin needed to screw the pooch with KF and cement it was ending. I maybe didn't think it would be a matter of days later, but here we are.

That is not something that is happening. It's an argument against a non-existent trend.

Also, do people put straight, while males in their games for "interesting narrative" reasons? Or just because they're not really thinking about it much?

I love the people who are super ignorant getting schooled by reasonable/educated people in this thread. Especially the people who don't know what his twitter handle means lmaooooo that's like middle school stuff

I know about "no taxation without representation". When I look at his Twitter handle, all I see there is "no taxation".

You can't put up half a sentence and get mad when people read it at face value.

Yeah, I definitely remember all those narrative hooks for all those white people in games.

Wait.

No.

They.

They barely ever do that at all.

White men are the default humans, which explains why they are by far the majority of people on earth.

Maybe, but, like, remember when they left IGN and it was a damn event? K+C crying reading letters to the audience, both getting a huge send-off from their colleagues and industry vets alike?

This is just, "welp, shit's changed, and, Colin (might) be on one last GOG episode and, don't worry it's cool." Colin thanking his best friends (very specifically leaving Greg out there) in that Facebook post is another flag. Could be nothing, but, I'm just a sucker for drama.

I'm sure they'll remain professional once he's finally onto different ventures as well, just won't be the same, which is a bummer. This, in no way, feels like an organic departure.
