Marvel's Iron Fist |OT| Hi-yahh - March 17th on Netflix

When?

Pretty accurate if you pretend the whole Diamondback arc doesn't exist in Luke Cage. Theo Rossi was also woefully miscast and not once menacing or believable as a truly great schemer. Not sure why you split the weak parts from the other series, but left that in as quality. Unless you truly believe the back half of that was better than everything else on the list.

Well, nevermind!

Luke Cage (Diamondback) would be at the bottom of the list. I hate misusing quality stuff more than anything else.

The low-key racism, I get, even if it's not meant to be that. Especially after how dark/edgy Daredevil was, how Jessica Jones was about female empowerment and Luke Cage being a Shaft remake. Iron Fist sticks out as a sore thumb where it's about white people complaining about money and Asian culture appropriation to a certain extent.

I'd side with Marvel on it being accurate to the source material but it's not. They changed his origin. Additionally, the show is alright, it's not amazing, which makes it even more difficult to defend them because it's not doing anything new or amazingly well. It's straight average.

Iron Fist is one of the situations where them using an Asian actor would've helped. If they were okay with changing the Ancient One and Iron Fist's origin itself, it wouldn't have been that big of a change. I feel bad for the actors, because they probably did the best they could, but the writing is off, the story is largely uninteresting, meh action scenes and it has the misfortune of coming after the fairly progressive Marvel Netflix series.

Best wishes.

I was worried this would be really bad but I'm on episode 6 and I'm really enjoying it. My worst complaint right now is I feel like Claire was very poorly introduced into the show, she just happens to decide to train with the one person in the city that knows Danny? They could've come up with a better setup than that.

Just finished and... ugh...

I found this reasonably enjoyable for most of the season, despite some flaws, and I was ready to give it a 6 or 7 out of 10 when I went into episode eleven. But the last few episodes are just a fucking train wreck. SOOO messy. The plot just zig-zags all over the place. Characters that I liked for most of the episodes become unbearably annoying.

Danny spends the final quarter of the season scowling and whining like a man-baby, totally reversing all the qualities that made him fairly likable in the early part of the show.

It seems like the whole plot of the season was an elaborate attempt to avoid showing his powers as much as possible. And this becomes a big problem at the end because the action really ramps up and the episodes become much more eventful. Speeding up the pace actually works against the show because Danny comes off as possibly the wimpiest superhero ever. He's constantly almost getting his ass kicked by regular dudes. It's especially comical
at the end when daddy Meachum almost kicks his ass. Just disgraceful for a hero who is supposed to be the ultimate kung-fu master to get his ass kicked by some pencil pushing asshole.

So, this gets maybe a 5 out of 10 from me. I genuinely found the opening part of the season decent, and I think the show has real potential if it gets another season. Finn played the character well when the material allowed him to do so. But unfortunately the scripts really fucked him at the end of the season.

Overall, I think this was on about the same level as a bad season of Teen Wolf, or Smallville, or True Blood, only with a much more languid pace. And the way it fell apart at the end reminded me of some of the worst seasons of Dexter, which I suppose makes sense with Scott Buck running things.

It's still reasonably entertaining for the most part, even after it goes to shit. The show has its moments, and I suppose I'll tune in to see whatever comes next if they do another season. But damn... I sure wish they'd found a better way to wrap things up.

I'm sure everybody who worked on this had the best of intentions, but honestly, after what happened with Dexter, and now this, Scott Buck probably shouldn't be a showrunner anymore. The dude has obviously written some great episodes for several awesome shows, but he seems to have trouble keeping a story on the rails for a whole season.

Yeah, I found myself getting unreasonably upset with how stupid the plot gets in the last few episodes.

When?

Their monk robes aren't exactly "costumes".

That's literally exactly what they are though - although I guess "uniform" is the more correct term, but thats what Iron Fist mostly wears; some regular ass kung fu clothes in the colours of K'un Lun and usually showing the emblem of Shou-Lao (or his bare chest which is the same thing)

Maybe it's my setup but I swear this show has the most bass ever. I've had to lower my subwoofer and drop the bass on my setup.

Edit. It was the audio out settings on my TV. I have a optical cable going to my 2.1 soundboard. It was set to PCM instead of bitstream.

He replaced a much better villain, and his dialogue rarely matched the established tone of the show imo. If the show from the jump leaned more heavily into its blaxpoitation roots, I probably would've liked him a lot more instead. But nah, that isn't what happened, so most of the time he came off as being corny af

Additionally, the whole thing about him being
Luke's brother was just so dumb.

Just finished Episode 5.....I don't know if I want to continue this show.

It's the most skippable one yet, so...

Diamondback was pretty fucking trashy and ruins what good Luke Cage built up.

The Elektra stuff in DD2 is pretty bad too.

Im actually kinda glad they made The Hand the big bad for the Netflix crew and not just DD, we were never going to get them represented in the movies, and they shouldn't be one and done thing.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah episode 9 I think? Looks like
dr Frank N Stein is back, see that's funny because he is poor man's Aaron Eckhart who did play Frankenstein in a film. I want him reunited with his daughter

Everytime I see that costume, all I'm thinking is the following line after that reveal
”What type of Jean Paul Gautier shit is this? What are you, a pimp stormtrooper?" XD

Took 90 minutes before someone thought to ask Danny something about himself and his family and close friends that no one else would know about except said close friends in order to prove he was in fact Danny Rand.

EP 10 SUPER RANT

MOTHERFUCKERS HAVE A COSTUMED IRON FIST IN A FUCKING 1948 VIDEO AND WE CANT HAVE OUR FUCKING COSTUME?

Opinions and all that, just finished ep 6 so I'm half way through the series and I gotta say this show got such a bad word of mouth its ridiculous,

Its just as good as the other Marvel Netflix shows, Daredevil season 1 is still my favorite of them but they all feel very slow at times with side characters doing crap nobody cares about. Iron Fist is on par with all of em. I don't get the hate. We'll see once I watch the second half but from what I gather if I were to hate it the beginning wouldve already made me do so.

Is the hand in the comics? Is there like a graphics novel that captures all stories involving them? I think that's why I'm really loving this show and daredevil over the other marvel shows and why I'm really really going to love defenders. They just make really great villains. I just wish whatever sticks organization is more heavily involved in iron fist, always thought this would be the info dump series.

Exactly, this show is no where near the dumpster fire people made it out to be. Which is another reason why I'm enjoying. Came in expecting shit and instead I find myself just engrossed in it and trying to make it last as long as possible.

Because the acting and dialogue are so over the top and ham-fisted in a really bad 80s B-movie kind of way. His outfit too just looks like a garbage man or janitor uniform with a Laser Tag set added on top of it. He manages to beat out Arrow's Spartan for most ridiculous retro look.

Had the best action in the entire show too

Haha. That was so fucking forehead slapping too. It's like REALLY?
You're going to give us how the entire show should have been in some quick, black and white history lesson?

yes The Hand have been around since...hell since I can remember reading Marvel comics. They have tussled with everyone from DD, to Iron Fist, Spider Man, Wolverine, you name the hero, the hand has probably fought him one time or another.

By the end of it there were so many twists and turns that I'm not sure I understand anyone's motivations. Clare is the only person with a consistent plot.

Also the chi-centering is poorly explained. It seems like they just turn off his chi whenever it's convenient for drama, and have it recharged at random.

And Joy is the biggest tease the whole time. It pissed me off.

I had pretty much that exact same opinion when I was halfway through. It gets worse :(

Five episodes in and I don't get the hate that the show has been getting.

I know how badly Buck messed up the final seasons of Dexter, but I think he's been competent thus far. The writing isn't the best, but I don't think it's much better on the other shows.

I feel it's on par with the rest of the Marvel seasons and much better than the second half of Luke Cage, which I hated.

Just finished. I liked it a lot.

10 episodes would have been fine. Maybe spread that budget over that.

I kinda wanted that crackling Iron fist effect though. The gold fist was fine, maybe down the road.

Now that Danny doesn't have that emotional baggage maybe he'll be a bit more focused.

Considering I got through season's 1 and 3 of Arrow yeah wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

Finished the season. Guess I'll post my thoughts here since no one is using the spoiler thread.

The series was pretty middle of the road. It started pretty badly, evened off and never took off.

I think the cast was fine, but the writing doesn't really help them. The best person on the show is Carrie-Anne Moss. Thank god for Jeri.

Claire was fine, and I'm okay with her being the Coulson of the Netflix series, but they just couldn't write her in without it feeling stupid that she's not speed dialing Matt for most of this. You're dealing with the Hand for Christ's sake.

I brought up the fights before, but they're pretty unmemorable. I think the best one was when IF and Davos were fighting off Hand University.

The biggest thing that irks me is that they made the Iron Fist a supposed "silver bullet" to the Hand. I can understand it from a story economics point of view, but it diminishes what K'Un Lun is.

They oddly don't really exploit using the Hand too much. (Where are the ninjas?) And they muddy it with bring Gao into it. (It's a Japanese organization, but then there's a Chinese sect?) I'm tired of this pan-Asian treatment.

After coming off of Luke Cage and it's amazing succint soundtrack.

Im dying of boredom in eps 5. Nothing is really sticking with me, the combat choreagraphy is 10 times slower than daredevil and they dont really sell much of the fights as hard hitting or impactful in any way.

The acting is also not great.

I mean...maybe finish it first. It's not AWFUL, but you know how you're halfway through and virtually nothing has happened? Just imagine that keeps happening for 7 more episodes.

Can you even call it that? There is no impact. They should really have gotten a lead with martial arts experience for this role at the least. His moves look a lot like interpretive dance as opposed to martial arts. The actor did not sell a single fight scene all the punches seem slow and held.

Episode 3 is some embarassing shit. I guess this is what the reviews were talking about when they accused this show of being tone-deaf.

This show completely shattered my suspension of disbelief. In Episode 7
Danny and Little Wing or whatever cannonball the fiddle cove. So how does that work out? Because I really doubt Danny was getting randy up on Kunlun mountain. Every episode after that should have had them acting really awkward with each other due to Danny's lack of... "ki".

But this has been the most bland of the "series" so far. Just a worse version of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, but without even the industry relevance that made them something notable.

Finished it. What a mess. I mostly just feel bad for the actors, who are left to fend for themselves amidst constantly shifting motivations that make no sense. As written, I don't think anyone could make these characters work.
