This was terrible episode. Cant tell between 1080p and 4k? Wth
Not a fair statement. He said you could propably discern a difference, "but, do you care." He also can't personally tell the difference between a PS4 Pro and a regular one.

Some people have a hard time seeing resolutions. He said some might if the screen was big enough, but most have 55 inches to 32 inches. Maybe people arn't going to see that Scorpio power just because it's basically 4k.

Mary Jo Foley wrote an article about what may be at the hardware event. She didn't mention Scorpio but my guess is it will be there. I just don't think Phil is in a position to say as MS likes to keep things under wraps pretty tight around these events. I can imagine it has to be soon since the final dev kits will be shipped out in June. Sounds like developers don't know what the final specs are yet.

Hold on... So two weeks from now could be the Scorpio reveal and they didn't even announce that yet? That's odd. I would think they announce an event for it in April and that it will happen in May. I'm sure plenty people know about this hardware event but do gamers do too?

Soo.. will we actually get an hardware reveal pre-E3?

I mean, all things considered, we're almost in April. The schedule is getting kinda tight. Though a late May event could easily fit in, I suppose.

Wasn't there a survey about upgradeable consoles? Not buying separate ram and cpu and stuff like that, but changing the main core, so you save a few bucks not having to buy a disc drive, hdd, motherboard etc each time.

Jez Corden hinting about a "plot twist" / unique feature on Scorpio. Not surprised since this by Panos Panay's team.

Sounds bogus to me. And btw its by Panos team is a common misconception. Phill already addressed this on podcast unlocked. Orignal Xbox One and Xbox One S are both created by the same team and same people. Panos just hapoened to be the hardware division head thats all.

Hmmm, reading the tweets he says he thinks it's not an upgradeable console(that goes my guess), but if you read between the lines, he does hint about it being a full blown win10 pc.

Surely he'd have direction over that though as the division head? Is it produced in his division, or in the Xbox divison?

Please, please, please be the case. Two birds one stone for me. I need a new PC and I'm buying a Scorpio.

Xbox One S is a night and day difference to Xbox One though. Xbox One S is one of the finest looking consoles of all time. Xbox One is right up there with OG Xbox as one of the ugliest.

I can see Scorpio being an Xbox running W10 Cloud with adjusted UI. I'd love for this too happen actually.

I don't see MS opening up the Xbox for everyone (aka full blown x86 PC). Valve would hijack it as an Steambox, resulting in MS losing their cut of every game sold.

I think Xbox team is still a seperate entity. But ya you are right he probably would have influence over the hardware now since it is under his name

You completely missed my point lol even though they are night and day different they were still designed by the same team is what Phill said. Except this time they had more time.

Xbox Switch

Xbox One when undocked and Xbox Scorpio when docked lol

That's kinda the way all the leaks are pointing Ms to go in general actually: Full Windows 10 on all devices with a adaptive shell, so you have the tailor crafted experience for each mobile, but full blown continuum when that device changes. I just thought it would take a while longer for us to see that actually delivered.

Phil said the difference was that xbone was running late. He said that many of the fuck ups at reveal was because some stuff was rushed and even didn't finished at launch (the launch sdks were said to be really bad, many of the programs Ms touted when revealing the console to publishers like id@xbox also only came after launch and so on).

I can imagine how troublesome xbone development was going by the stories on how Mattrick and other executives were pushing their agendas and goals to the team.

It would be nice if they allowed centennial games as is on a separate store section. It would be insane for developers not just convert their games and put it there

wow that would be huge actually, just thought about it.

Can we ignore Jez here?

MS showed a converter last year for x86 applications to be converted to UWP applications. They showcased Age of Empires 2 and The Witcher 3 running in UWP via the converter.

Licensing and XBL integration would be the biggest issue here.

I can't see it - XBL integration (for multiplayer), store integration (for DLC) and Achievements pretty much seem mandatory to me. PC-specific settings would be irrelevant.

Centennial may just make it easier to port the games, and Scorpio may have enough grunt to run these games at a decent speed despite not being optimised/designed for the hardware.

They could offer centennial games like that. They should be separate from the main Xbox games that you buy like halo 5. But I don't see it picking up with developers.

Well, they are opening the Creators section, with lessened requirements. Perhaps a one with even less requirements (like the game is allowed to use only keyboard, or this game puts the settings burden on the user) so devs can easily dump their games, and afterwards, if they find it worth it, upgrade as a regular Xbox game.

Not a guess, but rather games I'd like to see get the patch, anything is else is gravy.
- Witcher 3
- Mass Effect Andromeda
- Quantum Break
- Halo 5
- Gears
- Fallout 4

If I'm reading this right, he's implying the console has more than 6TF. Dunno with Jez, he's deliberately obtuse for the hits sometimes.

I don't think that's what he is implying. Non final devkits usually have lower clocks or even disabled parts on the chip.

What he is saying is: Devs are already impressed by what current devkits are capable of, even though these devkits are not 100% of the hardware. But that might be because they know exactly what's missing and can infer (for example, if it clock it would be pretty straightforward).

It just sounds like a sub-par, "not a console" experience. The key thing for consoles is simplicity: you don't get a choice, you just put the disk in and it works and the experience is consistent, hence the stringent TCRs on console.

If you suddenly have a category of titles that need a keyboard, don't show your Gamertag or friends list and don't give you achievements then you've fragmented the experience - which is against the ethos of consoles IMO. "Just dumping games on the system" sounds like a recipe for reduced quality. Also then 'regular' games would start asking why they have to go to the expensive of meeting the TCRs if they could just do a centennial port of the PC version.

No, IMO the value prop of Centennial is a quick port plus easy addition of platform-specific features so devs get the benefit of a reduced cost to market and console owners continue to get 'the Xbox experience'.

On your general point though I agree that centennial is an exciting technology with a lot of potential.

Edit is broken for me at the mo (anyone else? It cuts off messages after the first hyphen) - but I wanted to add in that yes for the equivalent to XBLIG then quick ports on centennial may be more likely - no full TCRs to meet for sure. I read the original post as being more about the AA/AAA titles, where I think Centennial is only a stepping stone to the final answer.

He might know stuff but this teasing and dragging stuff out of very annoying.

If you know stuff, tell us. If you don't want to or can't say anything, keep your mouth shut.

I have to agree with this. It's ok not to know, or have any meaningful information.

XDK is the software development kit. So he's saying something like libraries and enabled features etc are not 100% available yet.

Next gen incoming.

Zen please, I need my Red Dead Redemption 2 at 60 fps. If the PC version was announced I'd be be all over it, until then I can only hope that the Scorpio is capable some how.

Zen is probably unlikely but I don't care, I want it for RDR2 at 60 fps!

Sigh, I'm probably setting my self up for one heck of a disappointment.

Had a thought this morning, but I wouldn't think the system would be out early enough to make the launch.

I could see Microsoft and EA showing off Madden 18 using the Scorpio. New engine, new high-end console....would be a great way to say "This is Xbox One Scorpio and this is the new Madden 18".

Millions would hear what the game is running on and see what the system could do. The Madden audience is huge.

FIFA would be a bigger 'get' imo, given the worldwide appeal of soccer and Sony's EU domination it could persuade gamers towards Scorpio. Also FIFA is late September so that would give them more time than late August with Madden.

I say do both. Show the two biggest sports releases for each part of the world. Madden is bigger in the US, FIFA is bigger outside the US. Show what it can do to the two largest groups of sports fans. :)

Kinect/Cortana is built directly into the system. No need for a headset, voice commands and control of your entertainment center without any accessories. Maybe Microsoft is showing up with VR (kinect changed to increase VR experience).

I doubt it. MS got too much shit for including Kinect and this was at the height of the Snowden leaks.
