Splatoon 2 is the kind of software that will keep the baseline high for Switch well into next year. They could potentially have Mario Kart, ARMS ans Splatoon as their evergreen titles. Maybe even Zelda.

Weren't there reports that Nintendo had doubled the production of Switch units? Wouldn't it make sense for them to start shipping 70k+ units a week in Japan soon instead of 40-45k?

It takes a while to ramp up production that much. But yeah, it's possible I think.

It only took one day
Splatoon 2 - 138
Dragon Quest 11 (3DS) - 133
Dragon Quest 11 (PS4) - 116
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 219

Splatoon comes out only 1 week earlier, I can see why SE and Nintendo are not rushing the Switch version out at the same time. It would muddy things up.

Watch the Switch version get really the same week as Xenoblade Chronicles 2

they always send Xenoblade titles to die

I imagine that Nintendo would simply move the release date for Splatoon 2 if Square Enix was going to launch Dragon Quest XI day and date with the other versions.

Or SE can just delay the game until early 2018

Wow, that's huge. I predicted around 280k for the whole month, if true it blows away my expectations.

You predicted 280k for the whole month, which would be the first week. Unless you are saying you predicted 280k for the May predictions, which doesn't include its first week.

I was kind of expecting around 300k first week. Assuming 50-60k this week and 100k the following week that would put it at .375 attach ratio to the system.

My bad. I confused myself. 280k for May and I expected around the same amount for the month of April (so, FW). >.>

Crazy high attach rate. Was expecting around 150k max (with rediculus legs mind)

Indeed, there's a very high chance that for weeks coming MK8D will be the game bought with new Switches, usurping Zeldas role, add to that the potential other 500k people who own a switch since launch but aren't buying MK8D straight away.

If accurate, it'll likely be a 33% adoption rate (based on 250k copies sold, and 750K consoles sold).

Good start imo.

Agreed. Also, I bet the attach rate will increase for the next few weeks because it don't think it will drop lower than Switch hardware until its third week at the earliest.

Awesome if true, but debut sales are hardly relevant for a series like Mario Kart. It will continue to sell for years to come.

By the way, do you guys think that Nintendo will release Mario Kart 9 for Switch? I'm unsure, but I can totally see Smash 5 skipping Switch.

Mario Kart 8 came out 3 years ago, its kind of strange to me that its far enough out that they even need MK8 deluxe. Smash and Mario Kart are core franchises for Nintendo, i'd be shocked if the Switch didnt get new entries, especially since they're focused on a single platform now.

I think they go a different direction if they do release another Mario Kart on the system. Something to differentiate it from the core franchise because they already have a pretty perfect Mario Kart. This could mean a "Super Smash" type cast and have it be Nintendo Kart or maybe they go with beefier single player type like Diddy Kong Racing. I don't think they put out another pure Mario Kart because it would confuse the base and split multiplayer.

Splatoon 2 has officially passed Splatoon at COMG with 89 days left(obviously would lol)
I just realized that it 52 people proreded the game from COMG in 2 days....

I dont think its asking too much for one new mario kart for each system. To be stuck with the same mario kart for two gens in a row would be a bummer. I want MK9.

I think its about time i give Nintendo props and eat some crow. I didnt think there was a market for a $299 handheld, i was wrong. Well done Nintendo.

Yeah. While I always thought that in the end Switch will be success in japan (because it's successor also to 3DS no matter what Nintendo says) I thought it could struggle with 30k yen price tag (just like 3DS struggled with its high price after the launch). My yearly prediction was 3.2 million but I thought it will get price cut just like 3DS. Seems like it will hit that number even with current price. I still don't think it will sell as much this year as 3DS did in 2011 (3DS exploded after that huge price cut) but it's going to do great nevertheless.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Zelda BotW is up this week on the weekly Comg ranking. Maybe Switch shipment was bigger this week.

Going more in detail:

- Zelda: Botw is up (29pt v.s. 22pt)
- 1-2 Switch is stable (11pt v.s. 12pt)
- Spelunker is there (9pt)
- Bomberman is up (6pt v.s. 5pt / < 5pt)

I expect MK9 to skip switch. Don't see them releasing two MKs on same system. Plus MK team seems to be having arms of fun with their new game. Atleast we got a awesome battle mode if nothing else but I agree, sucks if we miss out on a MK9 for awhile. Maybe another racing game like a dedicated Zelda Kart or Diddy Kong Racing 3 but I don't expect another MK on Switch. Any new game from the MK team probably wouldn't launch until 2020 at earliest since all their games seem to take 3 years as of late.

I do expect Smash 5 and no Smash 4 Deluxe. Smash 4 took 2 years 7-9 months to complete devlopment after it started after KIU finished. Its now been over 1 year 2 months after Smash 4 DLC ended with no news about Sakurai's new game and the reliable (WSJ?) guy saying that a Smash game was in development. If it was a mere port with a couple new characters it would've more than likely been revealed by now. Especially as the final DLC amiibo got announced without a port mention, I now fully expect Smash 5 by end of next year, hopefully announced at E3.

Either that or no Smash 5 or Smash 4 Deluxe is in development. I did notice that the Switch was the first "Home" console to not have a Smash announcement to go along with its reveal since Game Cube. Kinda curious about that. May be just because unlike Brawl and 4, its so soon after the previous game (DLC included) but I don't know...

I think releasing Splatoon 2 this year is fine though, Switch needs a big seller in the summer, and Splatoon 2 will be the one. The beside, the game has legs lol
Yeah, legs are kind of a big deal. Not that N64 in Japan is a massive success story, but it's worth noting its #1 and #2 games were released in 1996.
SSB

GameCube's #1 SSBM was released 2 months after launch. Wii Sports ended up #2 overall.
