Nintendo’s Switch ‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ takes a second week at No1, but only just, as Bethesda’s ‘Prey’ debuts right behind at No2.

‘Prey’, developed by Arkane Studios, of ‘Dishonored’ fame, is the spiritual successor to 2006’s ‘Prey’ which was released on Xbox360/PC by Take 2, also debuting at No2 on the All Formats Top 40 (Units). Rockstar/Take 2 remain at No3 with ‘GTA V’ and Activision climb 4 places to No4 with ‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’. Warner climb 1 place to No5 with ‘LEGO Worlds’ and 505 rocket 5 places to No 6 with ‘Rocket League’. CI Games’ ‘Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3’ debuted at No2 last week but drops to No13 this week. Bandai Namco debuted last week at No4 and now sit at No12 with ‘Little Nightmares’. Also debuting in the Top 40 this week is Telltale Games’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Telltale Series’ at No31, released at the same time as the new Guardians movie hits the silver screen.

Nintendo Switch sold about 106,166 pieces of software in April.

Cumulative software sales are about 243,351 units sold.

Weird that Lego City Undercover is 14 in the all format yet only has the PS4 version at 40th in the individual

That's not a great result for April given Mario Kart is like 70-80ish of that.
At 70-80-ish, that would place Prey's debut at 20-23K: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articl...rt-8-deluxe-holds-off-prey-in-uk-boxed-charts

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe manages to hold pole position in the UK charts this week, by just 600 units.

The title (which fell 71% in sales during its second week) managed to fight off fierce competition from Bethesda's Prey. The result is a bit of a surprise, although these figures - as usual - do not include digital data (so Prey may have really been the most popular UK game last week).

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Damn Horizon is still in the top ten in like every country more than two months after release! Hell it appears twice for Spain counting the special edition. Some serious legs on that game and just wait until that bundle during the holidays.

Well, considering there was only two other retail releases In April (Lego and Puyo Pop), and they both sold more on the Switch than other consoles, the numbers aren't that shocking.

Well presumably the switch version sales are enough to push it much higher in the chart, hell I'd imagine the difference between like number 10 and the chart and like number 60 or sommat aint that huge

Persona 5 sold really badly in Europe, Deep Silver really fucked up.
Dunno about the rest of Europe but it was a mess in the UK. Initial stock allocation for preorders seemed really low to the point where a lot of places stopped taking preorders, and after launch it was out of stock from most retailers for almost a month.

I could not find the PS4 version of Persona 5 in stores in Portugal (at least the 4-5 ones in my area) so I just ended buying the steelbook edition from Amazon. Which honestly was the right move as it looks great!

....oh.

Hmmm. Maybe persona just hasn't struck a chord in Europe yet? EU has always gotten fucked over in general when it came to atlus stuff so that hasn't helped. This was the first major game from them to be day and date with US
I want to buy it physical but can't find a physical copy at a reasonable price, also UK PSN Persona 5 overpriced af im not buying that too so waiting for the lots of Persona 5 to be in stock and sold at decent price again

Yet another game falls victim to Bethesda no review policy

3/3 so far

Not sure how much reviews would actually help but it's not a good look.

The game looked really good but I think the demo for it game far too late for it to make a real difference. They should have released something earlier on like Nioh did and then released a more polished meaty experience shortly before release to keep the word of mouth strong. Without reviews people weren't going to buy into it after what happened with the original Prey 2 game and the fact consumers tend to not bite without reviews or something to goad them into it.

Really surprising about Mario Kart 8D. It's a great game and it's well deserved, always fun to jump in and play.

Nintendo is going to have a monstrous holiday.

I'm not sure how they calculated, but someone said Dishonored 1 debuted at 125K in the U.K. For comparison: http://m.neogaf.com/showpost.php?p=43222668

That estimate is not correct, Dishonored sold about 72,000 units in its debut.

(Upweighted to 100%)

[Week 41, 2012] DISHONORED (BETHESDA SOFTWORKS) - 72,000 / NEW
[Week 21, 2014] WOLFENSTEIN: THE NEW ORDER (BETHESDA SOFTWORKS) - 82,000 / NEW
[Week 19, 2016] DOOM (BETHESDA SOFTWORKS) - 63,000 / NEW
[Week 45, 2016] DISHONORED 2 (BETHESDA SOFTWORKS) - 42,000 / NEW

I think Bethesda's review policy is misguided but plenty of games have review embargoes and sold well. Including Doom last year.

Perhaps word of mouth (people seem to love it) and reviews the upcoming days will be able to carry Prey.

Would be a shame to see Arkane suffer.

Doom has its iconic name to sell it, one that's known far and wide and has been for decades. Same with Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Prey didn't have anything like that going for it.

Zelda and Mario Kart still slaying i see. Persona 5 well the physical version is very limited in Europe sadly. Game is still sold out at even major stores.

Thank you! I'll split out a thread in a bit.

Would 20-25K with a ceiling of 30K (if Mario Kart was 100% of Switch software sales in April) be an appropriate estimate for Prey?

Based on Watch Dogs we calculated that the floor for Mario Kart 8 was about 58,000 units, please note that there is always a certain margin of error that accumulates every week because of the rounding. Therefore, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe first week should be > 61,000 once we upweight it to 100% of the market. I upweight in this case because total marked data is always extrapolated to 100% of the market.

So based on the data we got this week we can say that Prey at least sold 17,000 units (100%). I would lower the ceiling of 30,000 units (100%) because The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was every week of April in the top 10, and that is at least some thousands of units per week. Then there is 1-2 Switch that also charted in the top 40 every week.

Maybe I'm reading a bit too much into it for a game that's 8 months old but shouldn't Battlefield 1 be doing better given that I'm pretty sure the previous entries in the series had better longevities.

Or is this chart position (26th in the All Formats and nowhere to be seen in the individual chart) about right and consistent for this timescale and IP?

Its higher than Mass Effect in the all format but the PS4 and XB1 versions are both above Lego City on PS4 in the individual.

Just looks strange

Looking at the Battlefield 4, it was around that in the same timeframe.

Looking at the Battlefield 4, it was around that in the same timeframe.

I guess if that's the case then, that's the case. It just seemed like the Battlefield series of games are historically in or around the top 10 for many, many months after their release; usually right up to the release of the next big Battlefield (see COD). BF1 looks like its about to fall out of sight altogether. I just thought it looked pretty short-tailed for a Battlefield title.
