Ed officially revealed for Street Fighter V

Good point. There isn't a corner obscuring the top left of the silhouette banner so the bottom right has to be there for a reason.
Well, I wouldn't say it has to be there for a reason, as this is Capcom after all, and they do some weird things, but I'm choosing to believe the more positive implication of it right now.

I actually really love how much Street Fighter V is digging back and using their own ridiculous lore for new characters. This is now a game where you can play as Gill's butler and Balrog's adopted son.

That alone is enough for me to try out Ed, but his moveset looks cool and his control scheme is intriguing! Can't wait to get my hands on him.

When's Gotch?

Duley's butler, lmao

Comparing to to KoF is unfair, the games are very different mechanically. Saying it works fine in KoF doesn't mean it can't have balancing issues in SF.

Indeed they are different mechanically, imagine if an SFV character was able to do 2 of those supers back to back (which is what Shen could do since it cost 2 bars and you can stack up to 5 in KOF).

Regardless, with this kind of logic you are basically praying that your opponent's execution isn't good enough, which matters less and less the higher the level of play gets.

Would it really take that much less time for someone to press a combination of 4-6 buttons than to do QCF QCF+P?

PC Mods are a double-edged sword.

I'll forgive this because you know , boobs and all but more importantly , it seems like a deliberate attempt to copy the breath master from King Fu Hustle

I haven't watched that in forever and now have a hankering to do so .... 🤔

Ed looks pretty cool , doesn't seem like my type of character but I suppose we'll see.

Yes. I think anyone who put in time in games Rising Thunder, CvS2 EO or Pocket Rumble would agree, even for expert players. Stuff like punishes and anti airs become a lot stronger.

Charge moves are basically the same principle but backwards. They take longer to execute, so they're usually more powerful moves.

This isn't about execution either, just time. It's quicker to hit a few buttons than QCFx2.

The CFN Update pushed everything back, including the balance changes.

That said, the balance update will be in the CFN Beta later this week (alongside Ed himself).

Additionally capcom is likely waiting to see how smooth this next beta goes before giving a date.

What if Ed's super had the Raging Demon motion?

Baron Aloha

A Shining Example
Its kind of weird how he doesn't match up with the story panels. I wonder if they will redo any of them. It took me a second to realize it was the same guy.

I kind of wish they didn't age him up and roid him out because there aren't many young characters in the game and he kind of reminds me of Abel now.

But his moves look sick.

*shrugs* I'm not going to argue specifics because besides this video we know nothing. My original point is that the QCFx2 could be there for balancing reasons, that's it. I'm not going to make judgements on *what* motion would be balanced because I know nothing about the character besides the video.

Fair enough but that doesn't have anything to do with Ed specifically.

Akuma has had this motion for over two decades and it would go hand in hand with the rest of Ed's inputs.

The point is that there is plenty that they could have done without throwing in something that goes against the rest of his design logic.

This guy is really Bison's son? I don't get why people are saying he has two dads, what's the backstory for that?
He's not his biological son. Ed is an experimental spare body built for Bison's soul. (Just like Abel and Seth, and to a different degree, Cammy.)

But Balrog freed him from the SIN compound in SFIV and took him under his wing. Now Bison wants him back.

I have a feeling he's going to be Alex tier to make up for his easy commands, especially given how most dlc characters have been released in a very conservative state

Not his son, technically. He was kidnapped and experimented on:
At a young age, Ed was kidnapped and experimented on by S.I.N., a division of Shadaloo, in order to become a replacement body for M. Bison. Many of you might remember a young Ed appearing in Rose's Street Fighter IV story and Balrog's story in Super Street Fighter IV. Due to the experiments, Ed's body ages faster than normal humans until they are old enough to be suited for battle. Since Balrog raised Ed, his fighting is centered on boxing but since he carries M. Bison's genes, his fighting style is enhanced by Psycho Power.

So the experiments infused him with Bison's DNA...but he was raised by Balrog. I guess that's the "two dads" aspect.

I would imagine his 2nd "father" is Balrog/boxer since it looks like he trained him some.

It's been there since the beginning, but they changed the background now. It's odd to me to have a seventh empty space, so I'm guessing that it's there to hint at a seventh character, who will most likely be a veteran SF character, and I think Sagat is the most likely candidate for that.
Yup.

  • The stage now is Thailand, Sagat is from there.
  • It's also Bison's stage, the SFII final boss. Sagat was SF1 final boss, and also a SF2 boss.
  • There are no other SF2/Shadaloo (if we count SIN as separate entity) bosses to bring back.
  • Out of the SF characters that still aren't SFV characters, Sagat is the top 2 in the characters popularity poll as shown in a post above.
  • Fang replaced him in Shadaloo, so there's a chance he may come back just to tell him "lol you suck, noob" and kick his ass even if he's not interested anymore on joining Shadaloo.

As expected, he looks dope! Years ago when I saw him in Balrog's SFIV ending, I'd always knew that they would make him some kind of Balrog/Bison mix "IF" he was gonna be in a new SF game and I'm glad Capcom didn't disappoint! Glad to finally have a 3rd playable boxer in the series and seeing that my boy Dudley isn't here, I might try him out. Wonder how he'll feel like to play since all his specials will be all command normals, etc and not doing the regular motions or even charges with him.

Actually curious to see SMUG play him lol! Dude is awesome with Dudley and Balrog, can't wait to see if he tries Ed also....if he do, oh man.

I'm liking what I see so far. Wish the hoodie was his default, but lots of people will buy it so I guess that was intentional.

Interesting choice for the moves. Will just have to try that out. Love the power dunk move.

He said he's def interested in playing him and that he does remind him of Dudley

I'll definitely give him a chance. Interested in the simple inputs aspect but like Smug, he looks like he can be Dudley for me if he never gets put in the game.

The hoodie is story costume, so it's unlock able by FM.

The alternative inputs sound interesting, I find most vertical based charge moves to be a pain in the arse to pull off on a controller here so good thing he dodged the charge train.
I just realised how fortunate I am for that Vega/Claw modification.

FANG? Cheap? I don't think so friendo :)

Have you ever thought maybe there's a reason nobody picks him?

Every now and then I'm like "oh yeah FANG, I'm one of the few who likes his crazy weird design and unusual movements", then I play as him and weep as I struggle to do anything.

He looks fun to play and the story costume isn't half bad. Absolutely more interested in playing than I was prior to gameplay reveal. Good job Capcom.

Ed looks about as cool as his name sounds.

Will be happy when we get to Season 3 and past this generic "5 all new characters", which will end up being reused story mode assets. And Ed.

You're completely wrong. There has been no reused story mode assets.
