The photo that told me Nintendo hit a home run with Switch

I'm feeling really positive on the device too after being pretty damn negative when it was first revealed. Turns out the hardware is perhaps Nintendo's best first revision for a handheld ever. It just looks and feels like a good device, something which they haven't really managed to do for their first revision handhelds since the GBA, and even that first GBA had backlight problems. The concept of being able to play a 2-player game wherever you bring it is also more killer than I thought would be.

Plus the games. The first year looked pretty barren but it turns out Zelda, Mario Kart, Puyo Puyo Tetris and Minecraft are all great, perfect on the go, and pretty much all I need to put hundreds of hours into this thing.

So yeah, I'm pretty positive on the Switch now. Even the price which I still think is expensive, seems to be no problem with the mass market with how the thing is selling.

Switch seems to be doing well starting out and I'm just wondering what's making the difference in how people think about it?

People are saying "I can play this anywhere now," but really the Switch is just a very powerful handheld. It's a handheld being marketed as a console. It's basically the same concept Sony tried. What's the difference? Actual 1st party support? The near-undivided attention of the 1st party development teams? The TV connection capability? The stand letting people play it in sort of a "mini TV-and-controller" configuration?

I get what OP is trying to say, I didn't see any world famous persons or football team holding a Nintendo product last generation.

Expensive memory cards and a bunch of problems like Sony not even supporting the thing for a year.

Also nonexistent marketing.

According to everyone and MS the Xbox One is a success. They're making a lot of money.

It is more successful than the 360 but they lost a lot of market share to Sony. Also, most people in Europe play Fifa on PS4 even though there are crazy Fifa+Xbox One bundles here.

Don't ignore the fact that you can play with a comfy pro controller on a big screen, which hasn't been an option for Nintendo portables in the past. I've played Zelda and Mario Kart almost exclusively in docked mode, and Binding of Isaac and Puyo Puyo Tetris almost exclusively in portable mode. It can adapt to whatever you feel like doing.

Buying a Switch NOW!

But seriously, this is some fantastic marketing, and just another bullet point on how big the Switch is gonna be. This thing is gonna be carrying the future Nintendo home console, 3DS and Vita libraries. I am VERY excited for the Switch's future.

Well, we can see that on Media Create threads or when media outlets report sales increase but these threads are just all sorts of weird. It just looks like you're trying too hard at selling it.
Or people are genuinely excited about their new console and the fact that other people are enjoying it as well?? I know I am. Buying a Switch after the Wii U's flop was a risk and people are excited that it seems to be a success. I don't see the problem.

Yup all the 3DS/Vita developers/teams are moving to the switch. Gonna make for some awesome games.

Yeah, this worked so well in Spain.

Yet Xbox One is still outselling the wildly successful 360 launch aligned. It's like just because it's being outsold by PS4 it's the biggest disaster since Wii U. Always the same posters aswell.

On topic. Great marketing for Switch, paid for or not.

I think one factor may be that Vita was competing for mindshare with Sony's already popular console brand. It was superfluous for most people when they thought "playstation". And in the portable world, Nintendo already had the remaining market locked up.

But most people seem unaware the Wii U even existed. I'm willing to bet that for the mainstream the last time they think Nintendo released a console was the Wii, over ten years ago. The Switch naturally comes across as fresh and attention-grabbing. "Hey, Nintendo is back. I wonder what they're doing these days."

And yeah I think the average person will see it as a console with a hybrid feature. Enthusiasts may be arguing over whether a hybrid can even exist (without cutting edge hardware, why even hook it up to the TV?!) Most people don't care about that though. If it's marketed well and the software looks good they roll with it.

In another year, everyone will have a Switch.

The one thing which has stood out to me with the Switch has been its marketing. Nintendo has undergone a serious turnaround in this department.

Watching Family Guy on ITV2 and just saw a Switch ad with Arms and Splatoon 2 in it. Nintendo ain't messing around.

Thats good to see Barcelona players playing the Switch. I know for sure Neymar is a big gamer. He loves playing FPS and sports game. Wouldn't surprise me if he's on GAF or other gaming sites posting. There's alot of athletes that loves games and consoles. Wasn't there an NFL player or B-ball players that loves JRPG's?? Even Hollywood loves games. The Switch is getting a lot of love from everybody. Its the must have console anf I believe the Switch deflated the VR hype for Sony and MS.

People might think lol okay but casuals/mainstream follow celebs/sports heavily, so if it trends more it certainly will generate more Switch sales.

It's clever marketing.

It is because everyone was like "LOL no way that happens" when they saw the original trailer.

And then it happened

The Switch is a phenom. Had a meeting the other day and my boss (a man in his 60's who has never struck me as a gamer in the slightest) was there playing MK8 before it started. Plenty of other non-gamer co-workers were fascinated by the hardware and later in the week showed up with their own Switches. Nintendo has captured a completely new audience with this device

This, the switch fits in adult lifestyle so well you can play even on work on break times etc. The hybrid idea was a smart thing to do i hope the next Ninty console continues this legacy. + it also os great for kids, so for all kinds of people.

Yeah. The portable aspect of it truly is revolutionary

The photo that told me that Nintendo hit a home run with women with the Switch:

I bet if we had stats, like a breakdown in charts somewhere, 90% of owners or people interested in the system would be female.

Agreed. Makes it hard to go back to a console that is stuck to your tv.

Only time will tell but I wonder if this will be like the move to laptops and if the other players will start making hybrids too (maybe alongside the regular consoles too).

Is this a joke post? I'm confused. Also currently, Switch owners skew nearly 90% male or so.

Not surprising. Actually I recently retrieved a couple pics of football players I like playing Mario Kart 7 so my guess is that MK is their must-have with the more solo-ish Football Manager. Just a matter of time before they're switching to Switch (oh!).
However, Barcelona? Pffff, #TeamLens

I hope so. I don't want to go to therapy again, going back to traditional controller after Wii was a shock.

Honestly I don't even enjoy playing on my tv as much anymore. I'll still play my PS4 for exclusives and third parties that foolishly skip Switch, but the Switch is just so much more enjoyable for me

The only thing that photo tells me is that Nintendo had a few Neon consoles laying around and someone said, 'Hey, you know what would be some good exposure?'

After the Switch i tried to go back to my old fashioned consoles, i just couldn't i called my therapist he said you only need the Switch the most revolutionary console ever created. So i sold my house sold my dog sold my car im all in on the switch baby.

There's nothing obvious in that tweet, no hashtag, simply guys like us with lots of money playing the best multiplayer game on earth that can be played in a plane.

I can say these guys have something on common with you.
I mean, you don't use hashtags.
