Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
it's usually 2 to top 2 finishers, 2 as door prizes

some stores just give 'em to top 4 tho

They have pretty wide discretion on how to hand those out. I sometimes get them for showing up.

Heh WotC thinks there's improvise players. They should have considered printing some actually useful artifacts that aren't spin to win or want to turn sideways on their own.

There is a new Planeswalker in the block. You just haven't met them yet. Why weren't they in Amonkhet rather than Hour of Devastation? Story reasons.
Oh, oh no.

At one point, we had Vehicles in the set, so, of course, we made some cool top-down Egyptian Vehicles. We later realized we were making the set a bit too complex, so we were looking for things to cut, and as we only had a few Vehicles, we chose to cut those.

Yeah, that post-PT Kaladesh emergency set change we heard about likely was when they got axed. They were supposed to be evergreen, but after Smug Copter? Better to be safe.

Probably explains the reduced number of fliers, actually.

But good riddance.

it's funny that in the same article he explained that cycling doesn't make evergree because there's only so much room for evergreen mechanics and the barrier of entry they present.
I've had to explain to a lot of modern players how crew works when I play my copters.

I don't think development cut them and design was finished when the rotation changed.

He's technically correct, if you needed to axe vehicles due to OPOPness, this wasn't an issue due to the rotation change.

I mean, it's not like any of the other vehicles have worried about prescribing the exact nature of their crew. Smuggler's Copter obviously wouldn't be crewable by a Metalwork Colossus, yet in game it is.

I would argue that's more the nature of the plane than an infallible requirement Wizards has assigned to them. Kaladesh has aether and a futuristic, automation slant. Vehicles on other planes wouldn't necessarily conform to the same rules and a chariot makes perfect flavor sense for an Egyptian plane.

Anybody else going to the Open in Baltimore this weekend? I'm not smart enough to read the recent results and metagame accordingly so I'm just going to take Affinity and see what happens lol.

Not going, but I haven't kept up with Modern recently and need to prep for Vegas alongside legacy. Would be interested in hearing what the meta is like these days during/after the tourney.

Probably just going to test/refine/take Grixis shadow to vegas, but I'm still a little open.

From basically everything I've seen, Death's Shadow(Specifically Grixis)/Eldrazi Tron/Abzan CoCo are currently superstrong. Dredge/Affinity need answers in the sideboard or they will roll you for not respecting them.

Basically, I would not play a big Modern event without partial answers to Tron/Death's Shadow/Abzan CoCo in the main. Aka, Fulminantor Mage is amazing right now, and I'd probably be running a full set of Surgical Extraction if I could.

I bought 30 portent

I think I'll bite as well but I don't know how the hell I'd offload them if I want to. My LGS isn't super competitive and don't do trade ins for non-standard stuff (to the store). I don't really do e-bay but I guess that's the only other option.

So apparently the Dipshit who made the comments about the concert bombing that everyone is retweeting streams MTGO...

There's a saying that goes something like "comedy equals tragedy plus time." The difference between being a comedian and an edgelord is knowing (and caring about) how long that takes.

Why aren't more people running Dispossess in their sideboard? Wouldn't that beat out marvel and get rid of gearhulks or am I missing something here?

As others have said, to get Marvel with it you need it in your starting hand, which means either devoting a significant number of deck slots to it or mulling very aggressively to find it. It's not out of the question, but it's not perfect.

It (hypothetically) works well against Control decks, but obviously you have to worry about it getting countered, or just falling so behind board that they counter everything else even after you dispossess the Gearhulks and losing to a Confiscated creature or some similarly dragged-out beating.

Do you live in a post-apocalyptic wasteland or in an Egyptian city ruled by gods where everyone has to participate in a deadly game? If not, you should probably just go with a normal hair cut.

Australia is pretty much exactly Mad Max 2 and 3

Multiple drafts of iconic masters will be firing, and those are not exclusive to the VIP pass, but they're $60 per draft.

Also we still have no clue about events/VIPs, and it's three months out. As tempting as it is to spend $650 to get some cards with print runs that are likely in Summer Magic territory, I'm gonna have to miss this one. I'll probably regret it when the inevitable MLP crossover card ebays for more than the ticket cost.

Goddamn, so that's minimum $120 if you want to go to the prerelease? Not a chance. And man, those three crossover cards are tempting to try and flip, but not $600 tempting. Not rolling the dice on that.

Too bad, I was actually considering it. That blind prerelease would be such a cool experience.

I was 100% on going - it's in driving distance - but I never would've expected it to be that expensive. Not sure how they're justifying a small first-year convention costing more than PAX east, not to mention drafts not coming with a badge (and being significantly more than retail price.)
