New Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers Switch previews, screens, details

Ok, I'm not buying it. I love Street Fighter, but this game is so expensive.
But the biggest problem isn't the price, but the content.

HSFII for PS2 have OST from CPS1, CPS2 or 3DO available - this version have only CPS2 and weird remixes.

The worst part for me is the sound effects, they are insanely bad. So the new style options isn't viable because the sound effects are shit. (in HSFII the sound effects were based on CPS-I if you choose a character version from SFII ~ SFIIT or CPS-II if its from SSFII or SSFIIT).

HSFII also had different styles for each character. Ok, this made the game unbalanced, but c'mon, instead of creating these two new characters that nobody asked, they could made alternative versions from each character (like KOF 98). Could be "Ultra" and "Classic" versions.

Boy, even the opening is trash, they used that classic Ryu sprite + a brand new Evil Ryu's ilustration that is new and not made in pixel art. This is bullshit, it's poor, it's just lazy.

The biggest problem for me is that I would play with old style (graphics + sound) all the time, and 40 dollars for this? no thanks.

(and I would be wishing playing with CPS-I OST).

=/

I think most of us will be on your side for this one. Whatever this game is, it is not a very good value. And non-hardcore folk who might be interested in it, probably won't be hooked in by this stupid looking waggle mini game (for the price they are asking).

Nobody wins here. There are innumerable older versions of SF2 that are far superior that a lot of us already own. This is not a very good way to treat Street Fighter 2.

I know I'm not the first to say this but every time I see this game I think how cool it would have been if it had a couple of characters from later 3D SF's re-done in sprite form. A real shame, because at least for me, that would have elevated a mile the value of this game.

If you really want to play SFII regardless of what version it is then this is somewhat of a good value. If your looking for anything else then this ain't it.

That would have taken a hell of a lot of work and palette swapping is easier.

I feel like they could have done so much more with this game if they were going to charge that much. It would have been cool to see Capcom go crazy and do a romhack style game like Nintendo did with NES Remix and Super Mario Maker. They leaned in that direction a little bit with the co op mode but they could have justified the extra price content wise if they were more imaginative beyond a poorly designed first person Hadou mode

Great news: 8bitDo SNES controllers just got a firmware update and now support Switch.

Ideal for Street Figther 2, I read only good things about this SNES pad.

OK that's pretty amazing. I've been thinking about picking one of these up for my SNES and Raspberry Pi but this just sealed the deal.

Thanks. I want this on digital but I guess it's unrealistic to expect paying anything less than $39.99 for that at launch.

If I had it my way and was directing a port of this game and was asking consumers 40 dollars for the privilege, I would:

1. Axe those outsourced garbage sprites.
2. Base it on CPS2 Hyper Street Fighter, but include modes for all original iterations of SF2 (not just character selection, but the game itself)
3. HD mode would be a doubling of the sprite-work (by hand), which is no easy feat, but if we're charging 40 dollars....and widescreen support on the "HD" and classic modes.
4. Lag free online (a la GGPO).
5. Unlockable Novelties- All Megadrive and SFC versions of SF2

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology (with added online) should be the standard on how to do a Street Fighter collection.

6. Shadow (Guile instead of Charlie)
7. Mech-Zangief
8. Shadow Lady
9. Cyber Akuma
10. Shin Akuma
11. Oni

I appreciate Evil Ryu and Violent Ken but they could've gone farther with the palette swaps. There's already a bunch more established with the SF2 cast.

I had no idea this did not include the options that were introduced in the later iterations of SF2 (hyper mode, etc).

I'll have to pass and hope for an inevitable price drop sooner rather than later.

I'm still in shock that you can't set the speed to match ST. How do you not include that?
That was intentional to match the speed of vanilla SF2. I asked the Capcom rep at the NYC event that Ono attended.

Caveat: I am 40 years old and Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition is one of my favorite games ever. In high school I grew up playing it in the arcades, I played SF 3, and the Alpha series, but for me that is the best version.

I can't wait for Friday! I understand people that want more content or a lower price, but I'm just happy with what we're getting. Day 1 for me.

The addition of the 8bitdo controllers is just icing on the cake, I have 2 at home. Damn, I love the Switch.

I have a better idea. Why not give all the games away for free. That would be better right ?

Betting it's going to do quite well in sells and some will be left wondering what the.

The system has people who want games.

this video is emberassing for the guy, not because of the game but he did not even try to make the moves right, what is the point of the video when they choose a guy that is not able to understand or recreate even simple moves?

And they've actually changed their mind since then because the speed of the game is now just a tiny bit slower than JP3/HDR. Apparently you still can't change it though.

I got it today. It's Street Fighter II, exactly what you expect, but still fun. I'm a casual Street Fighter player and I've always enjoyed handheld fighters. I think it's fun for what it is. And I love the box art.

I actually like the HD look. Been going with that and classic sounds. It's nice that you can mix it however you want.

How in-depth is the gallery? Does it have music? Zoom features?
That part at least seems enticing...

(Here's hoping somebody makes a comprehensive YouTube video going through it)

I'm actually in the gallery right now. Yeah, there's a music player and you can zoom (even with the touch screen which is neat). There are 273 "pages" of art.

I really dislike the look of these redone sprites. At $40 I could literally buy Tekken 7 on PC or throw in an extra $20 for Injustice.

I'm not devoting that kind of money for such an old game. Hopefully Switch gets a more modern fighting game.

I'm a pretty regular ST player and I managed to play some of this today. Was pretty meh, controls weren't as responsive as I'd hoped, and plain old ST looks a lot better. Unless you desperately need some kinda bootleg feeling SF2 on your switch ,I wouldn't even think about spending $40 on it.

Very interested in seeing reviews later today, the online patch still hasn't gone out so they'll be skipping over an integral chunk of the game
