Forza Horizon 3 PC Performance Thread

I wish I could figure out how on Windows 10 to uninstall Hot Wheels Expansion, that would let me play Blizzard Mountain I guess. Its so insane that windows 10 apps are so unintuitive - no right click menu in downloads or my library, and the only option on the hot wheels store page is now install on xbox one and share. Hot wheels isn't listed as an option in the windows 10 programs and features, only FH3 and I don't want to run uninstall on that since I'm pretty sure it'll just uninstall the entire game.

Oh well, guess I can play on my xbox if I really need to and just wait for the fix.

I recently started playing this again and I'm glad they finally got the performance issues in check. However, I can't believe the game STILL crashes to desktop almost every half hour for me. This is bullshit :(

Is this what heaven looks like?
Haha I don't know about that, there is definitely room for improvements (27" screens and a 1080ti would be nice!). It might be what - "the upgrade bug bit me too hard and now I'm crying myself to sleep because I'm out of money" - looks like though :S

The truth is that I didn't plan to get a triple screen setup, the first screen was no-gsync so the second one was bought to get g-sync when the hype was at the highest, then I bought the third one to connect the Amiga to.
Then, as the PC noob I am, I was like - Wait a minute... Can I run all those at once on the PC??? *mind blown* XD

Here is a short FH3 clip, just recorded with the iPhone so the quality is probably crap but I think you'll see the triple screens in action.

Windows 10? Edit: Doh that's the only way to play it, sorry I'm dumb. :p
I experienced a crash like that just now. It just instantly swapped to the desktop and the game had closed down and I didn't even get an error message or any type of message telling me what just happened.

Came back to this game to check it out and it freaking runs well now. It took them long enough. I might just go ahead and buy all the expansions now.

Incredible!

I honestly have to invest in a wheel. I such at racing games with a freaking controller.

Which car are you driving in that clip? I don't recognise the sound but it sounds really nice.
Yeah that deep growl sounds really nice, I like it too. It's the Lamborghini Urus, a SUV you get access to early on, it's the white car in the pics I showed earlier I've just painted it black here.

So I tried downloading the demo for this while waiting for the game to go on sale. However, whenever I get to the loading screen and it shows the controller layout, the demo just crashes. Just wanted to try the demo to see how my PC handles it, I am aware the demo doesn't have the improved optimization offered by the latest patch.

Anyone run into this issue? Thanks in advance

Thanks.

Huh, sounds totally different to when I last drove the Urus. Maybe it's a combination of hood cam + phone mic recording, but I guess I'll have to take it for another spin some time.

Same. This is how my session ended last week.

Have they mentioned they're fixing the problem where you can't play Blizzard Mountain anymore if you have Hot Wheels installed?

EDIT: I see they have. I understand they're focused on more important things like eSports, though.

Anyone know what CPU/overclock you need to get 60fps with NO hitches or stutters?

Is it even possible?

I'm on a 980ti.

Watching a recent vid on GB they said it seemed more cpu dependant and were getting constant drops with a 1080 but said their system at home was solid...

I'm on a i7 4770K at 4.4GHz but I have a feeling that isn't going to be enough.

Stutters piss me off to no end. The demo was shit but I heard they improved performance quite recently. Anyone know if that translates to the demo too?

Price with expansions is too expensive to risk any performance issues for me.

I don't think the demo has been updated yet however the game received an update recently which significantly improves performance across many systems.

The game runs at a smooth 60 fps for me with my OC'd GTX 970 and 4.7GHz i7 4790K with 2400MHz ram.

I have a 6700K with 3000 MHz ram, the most annoying thing is that you have to drop a lot of GPU settings to keep 100% 60

I am running an overclocked fx6300 and a rx470 and i can get 1080/60 with everything on high 4xmsa and i have zero stutters. it does drop the odd frame to maybe 55 lowest but it doesnt hitch like it used to.

Hmm, thanks guys. I've got 2400MHz ram too.

Was kinda hoping to run this at 1440p as I like the extra resolution in racing games to see into the distance for upcoming turns but I get the feeling that's still not possible.

I'm glad it's better but I don't think my rig is ready for what I want. Maybe with another patch... I'm not sure tbh, can't fully tell.

The demo is not updated with the performance patch. Your rig will be fine in the full game.

The game is running amazing now and with the latest AMD update (17.5.2) the long loading times are gone. Ryzen runs like a dream now that they updated to use all cores. The only issue left for me is the Blizzard Mountain expansion which I can't access. I can get into the Hot Wheels expansion no problem. Ryzen 1700 with the RX 480 8GB.

I also found the shadows settings made a huge difference for me going from ultra down to high saved me about 10 FPS. I get a steady 60 FPS with Shadow on high, MSAA off, FXAA on, 16X filtering, Environmental on high, Dynamic on high and everything else set to Ultra.

No thank You! for being genuinely positive, you made my day :D Youtube is a harsh place, just had to delete some negative "gayGAF PC masterrace" dumb shit comment, some people seriously shouldn't be allowed to post on the internet :/

Anyhow, as usual with PC gaming though, you always want something better. My dream upgrade right now would be 3x 27" curved gsync screens, 1440p, and a 1080ti. *drool* :)

reading all these positive performance impressions makes me wonder if i am even playing the same game

non stop lurches/hitching down to 45 - 50 fps for me, im not even sure if performance is improved with the patch on my pc

doesnt matter what resolution i try. switched from 4k to 1440p and my performance actually got worse

My wild guess: turn off game mode if you have Creator's Update.

Have you been able to identify some demanding situations where it dips? Maybe someone with a similar rig could take a look at the same areas and see how it behaves for them?

I'm on a 980ti and I'm currently getting 60-to-70fps at 6000x1080 resolution with between high-to-ultra graphics, which imo feels frickin awesome since I'm used to play this on console at 30fps.

You totally should! It's a night and day difference from using a controller. I wouldn't say it's easier though, but it's more fun and the racing becomes much more intensive with the force feedback etc which suits this genre very well indeed :)

Truly fantastic stuff.

Wait is that an Amiga shaped keyboard or genuine Amiga ?
Yup, genuine Amiga 1200. I had to make a choice and, well, the keyboard and mouse for the PC ain't nearly as pretty ;) so they're hidden in the drawer beneath.

The Amiga is connected to the monitor to the right :)

All you need is Settings > Apps, then you choose Horizon 3 and click "Advanced" to see/manage any DLC.

So after the game began running well on Saturday night I purchased the Porsche pack and the Hotwheels DLC. Played it all Sunday afternoon and loved it.

Went to play again last night and the game has shat the bed again. The menu was dropping to 7fps and staying there (I was trying to list a bunch of duplicate cars on the auction house, which was the most tedious thing ever) and I was back to getting 5fps drops when driving. I haven't changed anything from the day prior when it was running perfectly fine. I have no idea what happened!

Could it have been the auction listings? Is the game monitoring my auctions, taking up valuable resources instead of letting me do loop to loops in a Miata?

Is it possible you're running into a fluke with the new Geforce Experience drivers from yesterday? That's all I can think of, and those issues sound pretty dramatic.

I don't use Geforce Experience and haven't updated my GPU drivers in a little while, so I don't think that's it.

I'll try it tonight and see if it has fixed itself. Perhaps Windows was updating or something.

I can finally play it with a stable 30fps at 1080p, with the dynamic set to high.

That sucks though, in either case. If it hasn't resolved itself, this thread's a good place to track down people with similar issues.

Bought the game yesterday and am having a blast when it works, getting 60fps solid at 1440p with most things on ultra with my 1070 but goddamn I am losing my mind over all these random crashes to desktop.

No error message no nothing. From reading this thread and lots of other places it seems it is pretty common.... how in the world is this acceptable? I've gone through site after site with potential fixes but nothing works for me. It's so fucking annoying I wish I could get a refund.

you can get a refund. just contact microsoft support.

for the record, not everyone gets crashes. I've played over 50 hours and have only crashed once the entire time.

I'm running the same 1440p @ 60fps locked dynamic settings at ultra, no crashes for me after hundreds of hours. i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz (8 CPUs), GTX 1070. I also have 32GB RAM, which is a nice buffer, if overkill. Thrustmaster TX wheel/pedals and XB1 controller, depending on my mood. No other custom tweaking.

The wonderful world of PC gaming, where every single player in the world has a different hardware/software/driver/accessory/display setup. The variables....

Blizzard mountain loading issue has been resolved. It was an issue with the windows store (surprise surprise). Explains why it was taking playground and turn10 so long to run it down.

Always harder when the issue lies outside of your direct control.
