I pay 5 bucks a year for Pokemon Bank or whatever, so I'll most likely skip 2 lunches eating out and pay for a year of online.
It is the month of June.It is the year 2017.
Indeed.Sold on Netflix style VC
Now just give us cloud saves

Yes.Am I understanding this wrong?
I don't understand why some of you are demanding to have full access to every single NES, SNES, N64, GC, GB, GBC, and GBA game for $20 a year. I mean it should definitely be better than just a few NES games but some of you are fucking ridiculous.
To people who make ends meet, yes, it's means a lot to those people. To people who play videogames, it's not a lot of money. Gaming is a luxery, not a necessity.
The only reason Wii and DS games went down was because of GameSpy. Wii games that didn't use GameSpy are still up.I can still play Xbox 360 games online over Gold, because Microsoft has a monetary incentive to keep the service active.
VC will be available for everyone, but since you need to pay to play online, the online part will naturally only be available for those with a subscription.Am I understanding this wrong? VC is only available to those who subscribe?
That Wiiware game doesn't have online modes anymore.
The only Dr. Mario game with online still available is Dr. Luigi for the Wii U.
Holy crap there's a lot of jumping to conclusions (on both sides) in this thread.
So far all we know is that the $20 a year subscription will get you game discounts and a growing library of online-enabled games, likely starting with just NES games. Remember, the old plan included SNES games too so I wouldn't be surprised if that's not too far behind the NES games (like 1-3 months in).
We know nothing else yet. There very well could be a traditional VC to go along with this, but this would likely be the only way to access the online enhanced classic games. Nothing about this suggests they will put their entire VC library behind the $20 service- it seems to suggest maybe 3 titles or so per month.
I actually think we'll hear a fair bit more about all of this at E3, they're likely just getting the general info out of the way before hand.
People expecting netflix style library are going to be very very disappointing. It's going to be like 5 games max
I agree that it won't start out as a Netflix style library, but it's sounding like it will be around 3 games a month. After a few years that'll be a decent sized library.

Why do you think that? What about Nintendo's handling of the Virtual Console over the last decade makes you optimistic?
Also if these games aren't playable offline, they'll be damn near useless if you're out of the house.

Nintendo Switch Online includes ongoing access to a library of classic games you can take anywhere!
From Nintendo's tweet
First off this isn't the Virtual Console... This is a new thing for Nintendo, a paid online subscription. I'm honestly just reading the OP and the clarification PR and this is the only conclusion I can come to.
There's no indication that these games will not be playable when the Switch system is not connected to the internet.

Anywhere with Wi-Fi? Anywhere in your house? Who knows what "anywhere" means. I can't take the thing to the moon. How will the Switch know you're still subscribed if you're offline? Hell, what if the social media guy is just wrong?
Not saying they won't be downloadable but I am saying Nintendo's recent track record is not good and some of you in the thread are setting yourselves up for real disappointment.
These MK8 errors with a wired connection are just ridiculous.
Take anywhere and play anywhere are not the same thing.Nintendo Switch Online includes ongoing access to a library of classic games you can take anywhere!

I literally can't even connect to online when using Wi-Fi when the router is around 20ft away, whereas every other device has no problems even when out in the back garden. No amount of work Nintendo does to their online service will fix the worst Wi-Fi chip ever causing issues for a lot of people.

The same way my Switch knows I paid for Snipper Clips and let's me play it anywhere, even the moon.
You're jumping to baseless conclusions. It doesn't say anywhere you'll be streaming games, it'll be a download.
And, you know, playing online.
Take anywhere and play anywhere are not the same thing.
I mean, s/he isn't wrong though.This is the reach-iest reach I've ever seen
There was no indication that Super Mario Run had to always be online before that launched, either.
Your SnipperClips purchase isn't tied to a limited-time subscription, nor is it a game with online functionality, which these NES games are.
And I'm not jumping to conclusions, I'm being skeptical. Nintendo has earned that.
