TPC: Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are 3DS exclusives, not due for Switch

Everyone is still ignoring this...
It was a rumored codename for a supposed upcoming Pokémon game(s). Everyone seems to forget this. The Stars rumor could very well have truth to it (despite a Switch version not happening after all), with Stars being the codename for Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon, much like Rainbow/Niji was the codename for Sun / Moon. I mean, the logos for Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon even have stars in them! This is Pokémon Stars, people! The question is, will there really be a Switch version released later, or was that part of the rumor mistaken?
The Stars are right in front of you!!

Now, will these Stars Eclipse in the future or not? That's the question...

Nice new system and then they release a title on the old one? Seems a bit silly no?

Ultra Sun and Moon are not entirely new titles like Uncharted 4, you are able to notice that, right?

And Ultra Sun and Moon release under 1 year after Switch release, while Uncharted 4 released almost 3 years after PS4 launch?

I know I'm coming into this party late, and everyone's had their hopes raised, dashed, raised and dashed again but...

Has anyone talked about how at the end of the Ultra Sun & Moon trailer, the short scene where the trainer activates the Z crystal is of much higher quality and resolution than anything else in the trailer?

https://youtu.be/ue-CBOrLnb0

^right at the end, 3:15

It's using in game assets, for sure. But that isn't 3DS resolution, and there's copious amounts of motion blur and effects.

It's possible it was just done for the video, but it seems a little out of place. If it was just for that one scene, why not use a much higher quality model?

Quoting for new page.

What else would you expect them to say?

'Er yeah it was a clerical error, you caught us out, the game is coming to Switch but we won't announce it for 6 months, please forget what you read - Thanks'

Is it though? Nintendo had the opportunity to make the switch blow up in its first year and they gave us Pokkén lol. Getting those wii U vibes.
Uhh.. the system has shipment problems as it is. They can afford to hold back Pokémon for the moment.

It's time for Nintendo to have more control over the Pokémon Co. and Game Freaks. It's boggling the refusal from both companies to bring a mainline game of the series to a Nintendo home console. Being "portable only" and "installed userbase" are just lame excuses. As I mentioned in another thread, the last time Game Freaks made a home console game for Nintendo was in 1997 for Super Famicom, and they even made games for Nintendo's competition, like PSX, PS4 and XBO. This is just unacceptable and Nintendo management needs to have better control of their own subsidiaries and development partners.

Looks 3DS quality to me. Kind of blurry.

Could be pre-rendered CGI for an advertisement, if it's not 3DS footage. But I think it is.

I was speechless when I first saw this. I couldn't believe Nintendo could eff up so hard on what should be a slam dunk.

I still think this but the idea that they don't need it right now and it would devastate stock levels even further holds some weight. Quite simply it is true at the moment. They can play this card later and still reap the benefits. Assuming they still have Stars somewhere with even more content or something.

If this is not the case and they're not putting it on the Switch at all then my word... Words can't describe.

Last week we reported on the fact that the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will miss the Nintendo Switch's March launch date and instead be released several months later, and that Mario would likely take its place at launch as Nintendo's big first-party title.

From the original Eurogamer Pokemon Stars article. Doesn't seem like their info was so airtight.

EDIT: Fair enough. Though we haven't seen enough footage to back up their claim that Mario was finished.

On the other hand, GF referred to Pokken as the "first" Pokemon game on Nintendo Switch. We know they're developing more Pokemon games for Switch, we just don't know if they're all spinoffs.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
If they're not saving Pokémon Eclipse (The Switch one) for E3 and have instead cancelled it, that's some more amazing Game Freak'n.

I know its you, but you are smart enough to know these aren't the only two options available.

Game Freak never makes spinoffs.

Rah rah rah, Pie and Bogeyman. It'd make sense if this was to just focus on the 3DS milk and pump those versions up before all attention seeps to the Switch version. But then Game Freak are just... not very good at getting to grips with hardware so who knows, a year delay or just straight cancellation are always on the cards.

Everyone doubting Eurogamer is a bit silly though as yeh, timescales change quite often in the SEAT OF OUR PANTS game industry. When Mother 3 turns up and everyone loses their minds its gonna be some weird delayed reaction shit.

Makes perfect sense, Nintendo has enough big titles to drive sales atm. Pokémon Switch will come 2019 I guess, when Switch will peak due to library and price cut/revision.

The job posting was for Game Freak, right? So we have that and statements by the company saying that they are making a Switch game (eventually).

Yes. We know this so far:

Developer Game Freak will bring Pokémon to the platform, while Nintendo’s first party titles include the previously announced Zelda game – Breath of the Wild – and
a new Mario game. All three products are scheduled to appear within the first six months of the machine’s life.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/pok-mon-mario-and-zelda-headline-nx-dream-line-up/0170678

The Pokemon Company boss Tsunekazu Ishihara has confirmed the company will develop games for Nintendo's next console, codenamed NX.

http://m.ign.com/articles/2016/09/20/pokemon-company-ceo-confirms-support-for-nintendo-nx

Indeed, Switch will be the first Nintendo "home" console to receive a main Pokémon adventure. It only took 20 years.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-11-18-nintendo-switch-will-get-pokemon-sun-and-moon-version

Game Freak is recruiting for a new console development project and they’re in need of 3D CG designers with experience on Wii U and PS Vita level character models using animation and modeling software Maya.

So maybe we'll get Eclipse on Switch by 2018 (but what will it be?) or Gen8 likely by Fall 2019 (or Fall 2018 if they are already working hard on it)

I'm glad. This means gen 8 will begin on Switch with a fresh start, and the Diamond/Pearl remakes will be a part of that gen. That's my prediction, anyway.

Ultra Sun/Moon is basically Black/White 2.

1) Diamond/Pearl remake were never meant to make it on Gen7/3DS
2) If he doesn't have the proper content/new story of a sequel it's basically two versions of Emerald/Platinium

So the Eurogamer rumor was posted a week after they posted this.... (in the Pokemon Stars rumor article)

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-11-18-nintendo-switch-will-get-pokemon-sun-and-moon-version

I think they know someone who likes pulling their leg.

We know that was originally going to be the case though. They rushed BotW out the door for launch despite the European localization not being fully done (Which is why the game was going to be released post launch) as they thought it would be a better launch title than Mario.

I suspect it has to do with the size and demograph of the Switch audience. The Switch is going to be sold out regardless, the 3ds user base is much larger and kids are not likely to own the Switch which is Pokemon's main audience.

I still hold the opinion that GameFreak will sooner make a full Pokémon game for smartphones before they ever make a full Pokémon game for a console, even a portable console like the Switch.

The clip at the end is for the intro movie at the start of the game, it has the same style as the Sun and Moon one. Calm down folks lol

It's not that bad, but I will say they never release a game the same release year.

Nintendo doesn't own GameFreak. They can wring and wrung as much as they want but GF will ultimately do what it wants to do, at the moment anyway.

Pokemon HD is still coming. It's just a matter of time.

The thing that irks me about Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon on 3DS is that it's out only a year after the original versions. Only GS/C have a similar gap between their releases.

B2W2 were out 16 months after the 3DS hit - I think a similar release gap for USUM would have been more appropriate. It's not like Nintendo really needed yet another new set of Pokemon games to make bank this holiday.

Goddammit, I was sure Pokemon Stars would be announced for Switch. Don't get me wrong, I was looking forward to Pokken coming to Switch too, but the disappointment with a lack of a mainline pokemon game outweighs that. One of the most exciting prospects for the Switch was seeing what portable-exclusive series like Pokemon could do with the massive power jump.

How many times will history repeat itself with all things Nintendo before people get a clue. I dont even mean that in a negative way. I look forward to the great 2025 debate of whether the next Nintendo console will have good third party support from that western 3rd party.

3DS will get support for at least another 2 years I fear, as bad as it sounds it's the right decision from a business standpoint. Even though it's a bit disappointing that Capcom is more willing to put their heavy hitter Monster Hunter IP on the system than Nintendo is with Pokemon... (Pokken doesn't count)

This doesn't rule out a Pokemon game for Switch in any way.

I've seen more than a few people post stuff about Stars being the third Pokemon game mentioned in that 4chan post, so I want to point something out. That post does not say three Pokemon Sun/Moon re-releases or upgrades. It says that "there are three new Pokemon games for 3DS and Switch, two of them are dual versions". We saw all three of those games today; Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (the dual versions) and Pokken DX. There are no shreds of hope to hold on to, that was it.

1) I agree with you. I always expect remakes to be spaced out at least 2 gens.
2) Emerald and Platinum told the exact same story as its predecessors with added context and events. We know that Ultra SuMo will at least be an "alternative story". Do what extent, we don't know. The main reason I compare Ultra SuMo to B2W2 is because they're both a set of two new versions that take place in the same region as their respective predecessors to send off both their generations and their consoles.

I also believe "Stars" is Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. If "Stars" was meant to be about the Alola region, there would be no reason to have a "Stars" now.

It will likely eventually happen. At this time, this situation seems to be very similar to Pokemon B/W and B2/W2 in which people were upset that it was the DS instead of the 3DS.

But the developers stated BOTW was completed at the end of 2016...?

Unless something changes, Pokemon Gen 8 will release on Switch in 2019.

Why 2019?

Okay? I'm specifically talking about the 4chan post. You know, the only thing that references three games. That's okay though, I totally needed something that had nothing to do with my post reposted for me.
Edit: It's also the only thing that has to do with this specific reveal (even though they were two weeks off)
