That's quite the spacious city. Not going to watch the 3DS one as I want to see the beginning myself when I first start it.

The city actually looks terrific in the PS4 version. I'm watching it on mute though so the classic style music isn't grating on me right now.

This also made me remember Ding Dong Dell in Ni No Kuni for some reason. Shouts out to Ding Dong Dell, you're amazing.

EDIT: it actually looks more like Al Mamoon now that I pay attention.

Man, I love how the trees and bushes look. Especially from a distance.

And this is streamed footage, the actual game is gonna look much more colorful!

Is the 2D/3D thing still only for the opening of the game? They keep showing it as such in other videos of it too. I thought I heard that.

I think it's still only the opening of the game but maybe I missed something and they changed that.

Yeah. Though you can always swap between them, you stop seeing both at the same time, as I understand it.

Considering I tend to obssessively explore every nook and cranny of every DQ town, that PS4 city is gonna tank my playtime. So many barrels to break.

The design of the city in the PS4 version is pretty awesome.

But something I can't help notice is, the visuals in the DQXI reveal from nearly two years ago seemed to look more vibrant, and just popped with color and warmth.

Maybe the current footage looks somewhat more drab because of the quality of the upload on youtube.

Ps4 version is looking more and more awesome.

A long way compared to the initial footage, where the towns were a bit too empty.

There is something off with a PS4 version that I can't figure out. It feels like the game was made in a tight budget...

It's the music for me. It cheapens the entire game.

We'll see. It's true the music in the last footage definitely stood out in an iffy way, so hopefully, even if it's all in that style, some tracks are considerably better than others as is to be expected.

Though I think the lack of voice acting in such a damn good looking game may end up the weirder part when we're really playing though.

I really don't see how animations are "rough" or something. It just gives me... Dragon Quest feels? I don't know if I'm just way too used to 4-9, but the animations in this are perfectly "in-style".

The soundtrack in the PS4 version not being orchestrated is a huge bummer and feels needlessly archaic in this day and age, but that's Sugiyama for you. Everything else looks great, definitely the version I'm going to buy first.

If they bring the 3DS version to the west I'll play it later for the 16-bit graphics.

Every time I watch footage of the PS4 version I feel like I am in a dream.

Have you heard the boss theme yet? It sounds like a bunch of cats jumping playfully on an old MIDI keyboard. It's inexcusable for an AAA game in this day and age, especially when we know the composer is going to record it all for an orchestra anyway (and just wants to keep it out for ticket sales).

I'm used to reading text in my RPGs (and if they have voice acting, skipping that too since I read faster) so that aspect of it doesn't bother me.

I don't think I did hear that, or maybe it blended together with that initial track..., but I agree it's crazy that they aren't at least orchestrating this music for the game itself, since they eventually will, even if they keep the oldschool style.

DQ8 I remember sounded pretty good.

Yeah, maybe it's just since I love voice acting, but it sticks out a bit given the pretty gorgeous fidelity of the game.

Am I understanding this correctly, the PS4 has MIDI? VII on the PS2 had an orchestral score.

The western version of 8 only had that and it made load time *worse. Japanese 8 had MIDI music and no voice acting just like this game. I think having orchestral score added a lot to the game, but I can manage without it in 11.

Oh wait, I meant VIII. Maybe for the western release, then?

Damn PS4 version is seriously beautiful, love the art style and the visuals in general, pleasantly surprised as the pics didn't look as convincing but seeing it in motion it's quite gorgeous.

Western release of DQ8 PS2 replaced the JP music with the orchestral score. They also changed the menus too which made the entire thing load a lot more sluggish.

I really hope we get the 3DS version here. 2D mode is all I want out of an RPG and Square Enix so rarely lets me have what I want on these things.

Ah, so that was it, I forgot about this after so long.

DQ8 was the first non-GTA open world I got so lost into, and I think the orchestral score gave a lot into giving the world an expansive feel. Hopefully, this title lives up to DQ8.
