Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

It's a pretty decent price, considering the big leap it represents. Unfortunately, it won't really have an exclusive game library, so the power is kinda wasted no?

Of course you do when you feel it might soften the blow. No matter what they show at the conference, the talk was going to be the price, it's still going to be talked a lot if that is indeed the price, but they might be trying to adjust the expectations a little before.

Softening the blow by leaking false info? For what purpose? lol
Why would they feel the need to do such a thing in the first place?

Not surprised in the slightest. This also decreases the chances of a PS4Pro price-cut dramatically.

Also, price appears very reasonable considering that was the original launch price of the Xbone back in 2013.

I'd guess I wouldn't be surprised now if it does end up being $499. I mean, it is a premium console.

Could also see this as a marketing stunt, so MS can maximize the moment they reveal the $399 price tag. But I'm not sure Geoff would take a hit for that unless they played him as a fiddle. lol

I would think these people would like a resurgence of the xbox brand.

What does it matter in reality though? These people like to tell us they are happy with their console and the games that release on it so what's really going to change for them?

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.
You can get a 1070 for this price.

How so? If their games is to run on regular Xbox One consoles how can they push the hardware?
What good would a 1070 do me since I do not own a pc... I would still need a hard drive, ram, motherboard,.....not buying all that. Not buying this either though.

Lol that will be like £450. I expected that but now it so close sounds terrible

I'd expect more like £479

I'm out at that , I can coast out this generation with an OG ps4 and X1S , best part of £500 for a system shackled to the X1 isn't something I can justify.

Not surprised in the slightest. This also decreases the chances of a PS4Pro price-cut dramatically.

That 2013 price helped see the Xbox brands marketshare plummet.

Kinda seems like he said this so when they reveal a $399, people will go crazy.
I can't believe it'll sell well at that price.

Makes sense. I can't imagine they have any interest in taking a loss on this thing when it's not going to be a major sales driver. I'm not inclined to believe it will do much better at $399 compared to $499.

THIS.

Jeff has brought his reputation around lately and is a pretty decent "journalist" for the games industry. I can't see him opening himself up to Microsoft marketing stunts on his personal twitter.
His reputation is above leaker status. This doesn't make sense unless it is a stunt. Like the Joachim bullshit.

This was my expectation since the thing was announced, but I'd still like to see a 399.99 tag on it. This also isn't typical of Geoff, but I don't see the point of putting out false info prior unless it would be a stunt for his own show/C ntnet, which this isn't.

Not sure why Pro is being brought up in regards to the Scorpio pricing. Different components, company, and releases. It having come out a year ago has nothing to do with what this device may have to cost.

$499 does actually sound quite reasonable considering the price of the Pro and the power in Scorpio.

Wonder what that will be in the UK - £430? I think thats the price X1 launched at here so I'd pay £430 for a Scorpio
But that's going to be over a hundred quid more than pro at launch, it's like they've learned nothing, that's why they lost ground here. 360 was the leader and I think Xbox one would've continued that if it was priced the same as ps4 price is huge in the uk.

And Geoff knows this how?

Because he's Geoff Keighley and he's getting fed the price directly from Microsoft? Are we seriously going to act like he has no hook ups?

His reputation is above leaker status. This doesn't make sense unless it is a stunt. Like the Joachim bullshit.

But if it IS a stunt then he's shot his own reputation by being a marketing mouthpiece for MS. I think the likely scenario is that Scorpio cost $499.

So, let me get this straight...

people in here actually think that

- 10% more CPU Power
- 50% more GPU Power
- 50% more RAM
- 50% more Bandwidth
- UHD Blu-ray instead of a regular Drive

in comparison to a PS4 Pro will come at no extra cost whatsoever?

It's not about the spec. It's about the the value proposition. When you have a console struggling to sell at $249 in its strongest market and people seeing better value in its competitor, how you going to show people the value of your system that's twice the price? It plays the exact same games (you know the ones where content wise it's getting its ass whooped by its competitor) and you'd also need a 4K TV to take full advantage. Limiting its customers further than before.

PS4 gamers are upgrading or have just upgraded to Pro, they ain't shelling out another half a grand anytime soon if MS wants to convert these gamers.

That will limit its potential to the already devoted.
$499 for Jaguar and Polaris in 2017 is much to ask.
Likely facing a PS4 Pro which in bundled form costs $399.

$499.99 is the Launch edition with a 2tb HDD

$399.99 is the regular edition with a 1TB HDD

Just like the Xbox One S Launch Edition which was $399.99 with a 2TB while the regular 1TB edition was $299.99.

$499 is a niche price and would make more sense for a new generational console instead of transitional console.
Don't agree. Generational consoles need to be somewhat accessible (to get off the ground). Scorpio can be sold at a premium without impacting on the low end of the market (and the ecosystem) as they have the X1S to flog.

Why not use eager, early adopters to recoup some of the development costs?

Better not be a stunt.
A stunt as in sources within Microsoft are telling a reporter before their press conference that a price is $499 only to reduce it, or a reporter confirming with sources other than Microsoft that the price will be $499 (but that could change) without confirming it with Microsoft?

$499 2TB launch bundle with elite controller and 'day one' edition branding for the absolute hardcore. They'll test the market at the higher end pricing to start, then put out a $399 1TB model in time for the holidays. Otherwise, good luck MS.

Dude is not reasonable at all.. Is a year later console with almost the same tech as the Pro.. and remember is not a new Gen... Sony could cut the price of the Pro to $349.99 on their conference... $499.99 is suicide. This has to be a marketing stunt.

It could come with an elite controller and a stripper but that pricetag will still hurt when sont is selling their dominant product for half the price.
if possible , id really like a low hdd, peasant controller version for 400 coz damn i want one

Considering this is Geoff it has to be a 100% controlled leak. He doesn't go out and leak things early it's literally against what he's pretty much built his entire reputation around.

Meaning this comes directly from MS. Question is why?

Scorpio was never going to regain ground. The real battle is and always will be PS4 Slim vs Xbox One S. Pro vs Scorpio is nothing in comparison.
