Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

Jesus, I shouldn't be surprised given the visionless leadership of Spencer, but this is reaching levels of absurdity I haven't seen before.

How the hell can he act so excited for this shit online when he knows he's going to be fleecing the customer so hard. It's beyond disgusting. It's downright insane.

Don't see how it is DOA. The console is targeted at the people that bought an Xbox One for $500.

looool

Xbox One sales hit a brick wall from the very start. After they lost March of 2014 ["Have you seen Titanfall?"] against Second Son, the pricedrop was inevitable. It arrived on June 2014 when they offered Kinect-less Xbox One for $399. By then, generation was lost.

Wait, people doubting Geoff when he's confident enough to show up in the damn NeoGAF thread?

Dorito Pope knows how bad he'd be ripped if this is false...

So $83 per teraflop then I guess.

And by that measure, Scorpio is a steal :)

Xbox One S: $199 / 1.3 TF = $153 per TF
PS4 Slim: $249 / 1.84 TF = $135 per TF
PS4 Pro: $399 / 4.2 TF = $95 per TF
Xbox Scorpio: $499 / 6 TF = $83 per TF

Although I'll point out if PS4 Pro price drops to $349 as many suspect, then that would drop it to $83 per teraflop too :)

I have a hard time believing this. They can't be that dumb.
They launched the original Xbox One for $499 and delayed the launch for a year in most countries in the world. They can definitely be this dumb. I'm just waiting on what else they'll f'up besides this. I honestly don't get what they're trying to accomplish with this console anymore. They'll not win back any market shares this way, that's for sure.

I think everyone is still too traumatized by $599 to realize that it's been over a decade. Inflation has set in. Consumer expectations for electronics have changed—electronics are now a premium and a status symbol. People are dropping serious cash on phones, tablets, macbooks, etc.

It's only a matter of time before Sony and Microsoft revisit the $599 price point. If not now, then 2021 for sure.

$499 is a totally reasonable price for quality new generation hardware, not a mid-gen refresh that remains tethered to older tech. But I don't think we'll see a console at $599 outside of Premium or VR-ready SKUs.

Wait wait wait just a second. Have we discussed why Geoff was at their rehearsal in the first place? Is he going to be announcing things there? I'm confused.

Its going to flop unless they are offering tons of extra content with it.
Remember that pro is not doing insane sales and probably most of pro owners are double dipping (at least me and all my pro owner friends are).

Aiii

So not worth it

No mater what te price is, i already preorder that damm thing :p

but its gonna be $399 folks!!!

At this price you probably won’t have any trouble securing one on launch day even without paying Game Mania 25 Euro two years ahead of launch.

Coming out a year after the competitor (or more?) costing $100 more, and it's still using a Jag cpu... smooth moves MS smooth moves.

When it came out is irrelevant if if the console is still close to it's launch price.

It's more expensive, but it's significantly better specced in various ways.

Yikes.

I'm going full conspiracy mode, looking at the reactions thus far I'll be surprised if this price sticks by the end of the afternoon.
I mean, this kind of strips everything of context. $399 got a huge reaction because it was more powerful, came in $100 cheaper, and was making a play directly for the fans. $499 was just the first number said, there's no real reason for people to react to it either way. It was about what people expected.

Here, $399 would get a big reaction - but it's not like $499 would cause a riot in the streets.

I wasn't here for the first one, and never imagined there might be another.

Actually based on how he stumbled maybe they actually do need to rehearse with the real price.

If the price is that high, they fucked up by waiting to the conference to announce it, it'll be all anyone talks about afterwards no matter what else they have to show.

Xbox One Elite is my guess.

While Xbox 10 would be a perfect bad name, like Xbox One is, I don't think they will go with that name.

Xbox Elite is my bet. IMO they want to distance it from X1 as far as they can. Like a fresh start. (But 499? Damn, if true this thing is doa)

$499? Fuck. Xbox One was a disappoint and I pre-ordered. I'm gonna have to wait for the final presentation to decide, but it better have games, better UI and Elite Controller 2.0 for me to pre-order.

Microsoft probably allowed this to be "leaked" because way too many people were already thinking those ads were implying a $399 price tag for some reason.

They need to make sure people don't get disappointed during the press conference because that is all they will remember.

They only want hype.

Good decision in my opinion, I still don't know how people could came up with $399 in the first place.

I am an enthusiast. I have been with Xbox since its inception and a paying Xbox Live member since it started and was an original Live beta tester.

Just like that Im done.

That doesn't add up, though. The idea behind Scorpio is to be a high end, enthusiast product. You want that for a mainstream price point, which goes against the entire reason it exists- to be a high end console. You can't ask for high end and expect a low mainstream price. It's just not how this works.

$399 would mean they compromised on the vision or skimped out on the quality of the components, which would defeat the entire point.

$500 is reasonable, considering that I already have an Xbox One that could be sold to put a little bit of money towards it. $399 would have been the dream price though, and I agree with the sentiments being shared in this thread regarding the add-on of an Elite controller to soften the blow of the price a little bit.

Geoff, I don't know what image you're trying to portray here...you're kinda coming off as an ass, which isn't how you usually are. Makes me believe you're actually working with MS to put people off before the conference.

No offence to Geoff when I say this, in fact he might even appreciate me saying this, but it's kind of his job to be an ass.
