Damn Geoff is going all in this morning

Probably can't wait to be proven right if he's seen some of the reactions. I'd be the smuggest fucker on the planet if I could make this many people eat crow.

Will feel for him if wrong though, will probably never hear the end of it.

I mean even at $499 it's not unreasonable. I don't get how so much people want so much from a console at that cheap of a price. The system is damn near a $700-1000 PC. Coming in at $499 isn't bad, and if it is he true price, I expect that Microsoft WILL have content to show otherwise why it is worth it. They will have more shit to show to make ppl understand that they aren't messing around and this system will perform up to task. I don't underestimate this at all.

High five, guy who also gets it.

Jesus, I shouldn't be surprised given the visionless leadership of Spencer, but this is reaching levels of absurdity I haven't seen before.

How the hell can he act so excited for this shit online when he knows he's going to be fleecing the customer so hard. It's beyond disgusting. It's downright insane.

Fleecing? With the specs this baby is going to have the $499 price isn't really too bad.

Yikes.

I'm going full conspiracy mode, looking at the reactions thus far I'll be surprised if this price sticks by the end of the afternoon.

Do you have any idea how business works? A company would have approved this months ago and would need to go through so many people and cost analyses, you can't just change it in a day because you're afraid of meme reactions...

What I don't know is what's in the configuration for $499. But that's where it's starting.

I don't leak games because I would never do that to game creators -- they deserve their moment. This is different, it's the price of a piece of hardware.

You know people worked hard on the hardware and are equally entitled to their moment? Weird logic.

Probably at the absolute upper limit of what a console should cost. The Scorpio being a "premium" piece of hardware alongside a basic
Model should help set expectations where they should be on pricing.

Lol... No.

It is probably more optimized than an off the shelf pc, but aside from the hardware coded dx12 or whatever in the gpu, the Cpu is just as weak as the XB1 or PS4 but with an overclock, and the Gpu a Polaris with 40 CUs (the Pro has 36) with another serious overclock.

On paper, it's a $499- $599 pc at most with a solid cooling (we hope) solution.
As a mass produced console, they should in theory be able to hit $399 (again, based on what we know).

I was expecting $449 to be the max, $499 is not a good price if the PS4 Pro is going to be $349. If the $499 price is true then I hope MS has few extra bells and whistles we don't know about yet.

I wouldn't be surprised at this price. This is a piece of equipment that is targeting the hardcore gamer and AV enthusiast sectors. Anyone who wants this level of quality is willing to pay a little more for it.

This type of customer has disposable income, and probably owns (or will soon purchase) a 4K TV and a thundering surround sound system. If he's willing to pay $400 for a high-end video game console, then he's probably also willing to pay $500 for one.

Microsoft has the standard Xbox One to appeal to the low end of the market--that isn't going anywhere.

There is also the possibility that Geoff is floating a red herring, so that when Microsoft announces a lower price ($50-$100 less than expected), people will be "pleasantly surprised" and accept it more readily.

People saying ridiculous shit like why don't they start a new generation. Really?

The whole point of this is to give people a choice. You want a premium product or cheaper product.

Gens are dead to MS. They will do it like Apple now where they will just stop supporting old consoles. Where all your existing software will work on new consoles. That's the future.

I'm more concerned about is games. MS need killer games.

If the current exchange rate is to go by it'l stick at £449 here.

Current rate plus 20% VAT would be £469

I agree though, MS will probably make it £449 as anything more would be psychological barrier. £450 is top end already. For MS I think they need to hit £400-429.

Europe's low value € currency and whopping 20% VAT make it tricky

Most Xbox games come to PC right? I still don't get the PS4 Pro and I get the Scorpio even less if its priced high like that. Why not just buy a PC at that point? You get the bonus of being upgrade it later too.

Really hope it's Xbox Scorpio if it has to be any of those names lol. Xbox 10 and Two make no real sense (although Two could be them playing it off as a next gen console) and Xbox One X is absolutely terrible. It does not roll well off the tongue at all.

Plus Scorpio is the name that most people are associating the console with already, they may as well use it.

Im not convinced, PRO released LAST YEAR at $399. a little bigger APU on Scorpio shouldn't cost MS $100 more. No Vega, no Zen ..upclocked Jag with 40CU GPU.

Scorpio is gonna be $399, Im certain MS isnt dumb to release it at more than that.

Yeah I agree. If this is this price, then they are probably pretty confident with what they will show today and we can see a big leap in performance.

That's what I'm saying. The price is not even the biggest hurdle of this thing. Remember, people were more skeptical on what GAMES Xbox would have...the price was always the second thing. If Microsoft has games, the price won't matter. Having that premium game experience is what they are pushing for and the system has all the bells and whistles to do so, including its media capabilities. They are going to sell the hell out of $499, because they can.

I am neither a follower of Sony or Microsoft, but does no one remember how the PS1's price was being debated up until the last moment of their speech for E3?

Even though it was at a significant loss for Sony at the time, I can see Microsoft also bearing the financial hit considering how they launched early with the Xbox 360 despite its overheating design flaws last generation.

I think 499 is the logical price, however, and I would be shocked if it was announced at 399... I wouldn't cross out the possibility of it happening, though.
That strategy simply does not make sense for a premium product being released in the middle of a generation. You can't gain significant market share on price because cost conscious consumers will always buy the more affordable base models. In addition, the cost conscious consumers are not the ones who will be upgrading their existing consoles based on power. To sell Scorpio at a loss is to lose money trying to get a market the product was never designed to compete for.
