Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

Hopefully they purposely leaked that price whether or not Geoff is in on it and will actually announce $399. Probably not but I'm going to stay hopeful for a few more hours.

Honestly I don't care too much because I wouldn't even buy one at $399 since I have no 4K TV and would need to see a practical difference before jumping in.

From scratch, you'd be hard-pressed to do so and it probably wouldn't be as good as PS4 Pro. That said, if you already have a desktop PC and it can take a graphics card, a Geforce 1080 is $499 as SRP and they can be had for less than that.

You can easily build a better pc than a pro for 500, at least in the US. Scorpio is harder but you can probably do it for not much more

Tempted at $399. No buy at $499. I have a capable PC that can run MS exclusives, so it looks like a :wait for sale" for me.

Guys, the price is $499 and that is what has been rehearsed.

It's not adding up man, you're not a leaker, why would you leak it?

You're hosting a official Project Scorpio panel with Microsoft for your E3 Coliseum.

Why would you put your relationship with Microsoft and your industry standing in danger over leaking a price of a console a couple hours before it is announced?

1. It's a marketing campaign to lead up to a mic drop price reveal.

2. You got the go ahead from Microsoft to leak early as damage control.

Neither is the Pro. To at least have it at that price makes it compete. Stop making excuses for terrible decisions, maybe. 399.99 isn't exactly cheap either.

It's no excuse , you can't afford it you don't buy it. Simple as that . You want low entry get the S.

Stop making excuses if you can't afford it.

What kind of fantasy land are you living in thast you think a fucking Scorpio is going to be a watch for $500 gpu.

Some of the responses here are 2007 console warrior level stupid.

In what fantasy land is a person living suggesting that a $500 PC build is a substitute for someone interested in a 4K-capable console? You're looking at nearly double that if you go cheap on everything.

If you're looking for 4K gaming then your choices are limited to a PS4 Pro, Scorpio, or a $1,000+ PC, with varying degrees of 4K fidelity.

I bet that there will be a 499 price point.

and a 399 pricepoint.

but what if it's 349? GAF will lose its shit. I will.

399 and 499 seems to be the case. Geoff won't lose his face with that either since he was technically correct (although he was clearly suggesting a 499 base price to cause some press turbulence).

Said safety net ALWAYS collapses after the holiday season when there's no more games to buy. MS "only Holiday season matters" strategy is one of the stupidest decisions they've made this gen (and that is REALLY saying something).

Well, you can, but I don't think it's gonna sell well at $500.

PS3 all over again.

PS3 had every territory but US and UK on lockdown even with their asinine pricing.

MS does not have that luxury.

"Scorpio" twitter is embarrassing.

Look guys calm down and think about it. MS could only manufacture scorpio on limited amount. MS hardcore fans would definitely buy it no matter what. There's nothing wrong with the price. They could even price it higher.

If the purpose is to retain status quo and maintain the current fans. Then it all makes sense.

The fun part is now it happens every 4 years instead of 8, like the World Cup!
If this thing goes sideways, I don't think you're going to see anybody try to defy the typical console life cycle again. Typical being five or six years, not the marathon we had last generation.
No fun league for E3. The point is part of the show has now been spoiled.
The strange thing here is that he doesn't benefit much either way. If he's right, he could damage whatever his currently existing relationship is with Microsoft for spilling the beans. If he is wrong, he either looks foolish for doubling down on it, or like some kind of shill trying to enhance the impact of a $399 announcement. Really weird, but I have to think he firmly believes it to be true to keep going on about it as he has.

Specs aren't important if there are no compelling games to play on the console. Excited to see what Xbox has in store and what games they announce.

There's plenty, and don't forget the all those multiplats, or don't they count now?

I think the issue with pricing a console for enthusiasts is that you start to toe the line of the gaming PC market. And if you're an enthusiast, you may decide you want to build a great PC for $1k. Yes, double the price of a Scorpio, but if you're that enthused, you won't care about the doubled price for nicer hardware.

I don't know. Maybe I'm rambling.

I can afford it. I'll get it at 499 because I'm a dumb motherfucker. That doesn't mean it's in any way a good business decision. Even when you use the tag of "premium" device.

I wish they would hurry up and make the pre-orders available. They can sort the price out later for all I care, the press conference is on too late over here in the UK for me to care about 100 either way. I just want to secure one for launch and go to bed.

In retrospect of his tweet, whether it's right or wrong, I'm kind of disappointed he posted it. He is a guy who does a bunch of hosting at E3 and tries to lock down exclusive information so he should know that posting this price point ahead of time deflates hype for an upcoming show.

I'm still not sure why he posted this unless it was intended to be a deflection and then he still doesn't look good.

He's a journalist, he's supposed to report this stuff.

The fact that you even assume he should act like a hypeman for a company says a lot about the game industry these days.

It better come with an elite controller included for that price.

Well, that maybe makes sense... release a $499 bundle this holiday with an elite controller, and 6 months later, once early adopter's demad is supplied, drop price to 399 with regular pad.

Crushed by PS4? Why do you compare it to ps4? At least compare it to ps4 pro. Its a Premium product. Microsoft never wanted to sell gangbusters with this. They want to Change the mindset. People should stop thinking that Xbox is "weak".

There is no way in hell Scorpio is gonna cost 400$. In comparison to PS4 Pro, Scorpio has basically a new architecture that is more than just an upgrade to XB1's. GPU isn't the same, RAM type isn't the same and there is more RAM than XB1, CPU seems better than what we saw on PS4 Pro (ie. not an overclocked processor).

So I agree with Geoff here, 500$ will be the price they will announce at E3.

Good point. That doesn't mean the consumer base will bite on the product. Xbox One is playing catchup, and MS has to offer a good bargain in order for Scorpio to succeed outside of the hardcore fan base.

This assumes a big market for people willing to spend $500 for a console but not $1000 for a PC that does and plays a lot more.

I mean, I'm sure there are some people budgeted in the sweet spot, but....
