Skyrim Switch Trailer (Link amiibo support)

Remember when that analyst said Switch was designed for open world games?

He was referring to the propietary grass rendering accelerator that Nintendo hardwired into the Tegra X1 for Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade 2.

I suspect some people have forgotten how vanilla Skyrim looked on consoles and even on PC. Add to it that most Skyrim screenshots that make the rounds are modded high-res shots and I can understand a little where the confusion comes from.

But once again, just like in the FIFA thread there are those that seem to forget that Skyrim has run on systems less powerful than the Switch and didn't look as bad as they are making it sound. With the advances in things like compression for textures and a resolution limit of 1080, there is no reason why Switch shouldn't be presenting a very good version of Skyrim.

I do wish that people would go back and look at how games looked before. We hear it all the time 'it looks like a PS2 game', 'it's a Gamecube game'. Like have people actually seem what those things look like? I mean even the bloody 3DS was getting ports with better textures etc than N64 originals!

Something fun that I noticed is that on the Bethesda Softworks twitter page, the announcement of Skyrim Switch is the most liked announcement of their conference (even more than Wolfenstein 2).

Obviously not a remarkable indicator of overall success, but still shows that there's some interest in playing Skyrim on the go!

Those motion controls

What are the chances that we are able to aim the bow with the motion sensor the same way it works in BotW? That would be a game changer to me.

What the hell are you taking about? The Link segment looks like it was running at 60fps

The Link segment did look like it was running at 60. Most of the rest however did not. Not saying it will be bad at all, just wishing for higher framerate is par for the course these days.

direct feed looked 60fps, the offscreen footage wasnt actually offscreen just a video super imposed onto the switch which cut the framerate

I just rewatched the video and the Link part definitely looked 60 which made me think that it would run 60 in docked as that was the first part of the video to go fullscreen. But some later ones seem to be running similarly to handheld mode.

Honestly, I wouldn't really expect the Switch to run this game at a full 60 but it's nice to want things, you know? I'll still likely pick it up.

idk all the direct feed footage looks 60fps, and i've put over 600 hours into skyrim vanilla on pc

Can somebody explain to someone like me who never played skyrim why mods are such a crucial thing to have? Some are making it out to be as if the original game was pure shit or something.

Links tunic looks so fugly lol. Those aesthetics don't blend in the slightest. Dope for Nintendo ecosystem though, elder scrolls is long overdue. Also good to have the portable option beyond playing on laptop.

The game is not shit. It's just conducive to hijinks with the introduction of mods.

Mods can change Skyrim into all sorts of things lol. People have made new maps, fully voiced NPC characters, animations, graphics, better lighting systems etc etc. Mods can be a great way to breathe life into the game for a while.

Vanilla Skyrim is so broken that without mods.... but then even with mods, some things are still broken today or at least super glitchy.

Only the Link Amiibo, that's unfortunate. As said on the YouTube E3 stream.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch includes all-new gameplay features like motion controls for combat and lockpicking, outfits and gear from The Legend of Zelda. Take down enemies with the Master Sword, protect yourself with the Hylian Shield or look heroic in the Champion's Tunic. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch also includes all official add-ons: Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn. Plus tap other compatible amiibo to gain additional loot including those from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild series, 30th Anniversary - The Legend of Zelda series, Super Smash Bros. series, and The Legend of Zelda series.

Is that just the various Links? Hope the 8-bit link gets me a pixel sword lol

It may just be random loot drops of other amiibo, similar to non-Zelda amiibo in BotW.

Also, even though they only showed archer Link, if this set of gear is the only unlockable Zelda gear, any Link figure should register as a generic "Link" in any amiibo compatible game, so that may be why they are listing all the Zelda figures, not necessarily because you'll get different themed drops, but because every Link figure functions like a Link figure, every Zelda like a Zelda, etc.

I wish that it had options to make it a little less violent. I would love to play this with my wife, but we have small kids and it is a bit too much for them.

To sort of play off of this, I wish GTA V had a non-violent mode, all it would require is removing the cursing and disallowing punching. You could still run people over but just make them invincible (like running into a poll or something). Kids LOVE open world games, wouldn't be too hard to let them run around and do non violent stuff...

That was a very odd trailer. Like, seriously, why that music?
