GameSpot: Capcom Not Bringing Switch Ver. of Monster Hunter XX to US (at this time)

Yes, that will surely help this series prosper.
If there are gamers who won't play a portable MH, there will also be games who don't like console MH. You can't force them to support the game as much as most fans will like to. For me I will only get MHW when it's on sales and I clear my console backlog since I can't easily play it anywhere.

What's really hilarious is you making things up. Nowhere did I claim that MH doesn't sell well on handhelds in the west. Feel free to point it out if you can.

And yes scratch my 15% figure quote. Capcom actually stated it's 10%.

So you try to deflect to Capcom said it, its not me? You used it as an arguing point so it is your "opinion" now.

The point is plenty of franchises don't do as well in the West as Japan.

Very easy to blame handhelds when Capcom themselves never put real effort behind the 3DS games in the west.

The long wait for localizations, no collaborations tailored for Western market, no presence outside of Nintendo events, no marketing campaign outside of basic blog posts... the list goes on and on.

But guess what, they still sold close to or over 1 million copies. The franchise has never been more popular!

If not for Nintendo those games wouldn't have seen see the light of the day. It's pathetic how much Capcom relied on them.

So please, miss the 3DS and redirect your anger to Capcom.

Now I want to see if they'll suddenly do all of those things for World when they've refused to do them for the past games. Will they be expecting Sony and Microsoft to do that when they clearly have bigger and more important games releasing?

You can bet that they'll be relying on Sony heavily to market this game.

Did you not see the booth dedicated to MHW? The worldwide release date? It was their game of the show!

They best pray it sells millions hahaha.

When was the last game that Capcom market heavily by themselves? I don't remember there being a big marketing push for RE7.

I could be remembering incorrectly, but at least in Europe the last time was Freedom 2/Unite. They even set up that Monster Hunter gathering hall in London which turned out to be quite successful.

I'd hope they care more about it than the PS2 days, or to take some other recent examples, more than Demon's Souls or Nioh.

I definitely think they will. The fact that they wheeled it out during their E3 press briefing speaks volumes. The game has serious potential with the Souls/Nioh audience I think.

yeah, Capcom should use Sony's marketing for it, Sony marketing is pretty smart, they made every capcom franchise sold great, just look at Street Fighter 5 and Resident Evil 7, those games sold great

Ehh. That's not a high bar, and their way of introducing it was very... peculiar.

That's a long time ago.....

Let's hope Sony really help out then.....

If Capcom wants my money they should release a game I want to buy. That's how this all works. Should I buy a game on a platform I don't want to play on?

This is a better direction than before

Or are we going to suggest inclusion is somehow a bad thing now

Im with you all in sharing the disdain for them not localizing a relatively easy XX port

I also acknowledge Vena's point about pulling a new audience but there will also be the western fanbase and those who have been the fence about the series for various reasons

How does that work with it being on Xbox One in the west? I haven't really seen Sony push games that release on both systems as hard as stuff like Ni-oh. I don't think Sony will push it without an extra incentive.

They have marketing rights for many major multiplatform titles like Destiny, Star Wars, RDR2, Call of Duty, etc.

Having it at E3 was a big first step but hopefully they'll do a good job in the coming months. This game would benefit greatly from some advertising. Nintendo did a damn fine job with MH Tri on Wii which resulted in some decent sales.

Destiny, Call of Duty, Star Wars Battlefront, Batman etc. Sure, those games are bigger than MH by several orders of magnitude, but still, I can see Sony putting their weight behind this title seeing as it was announced on their stage.

Yeah, it's not a high bar. I just think the game has potential to grab an untapped audience over here. How much remains to be seen, but I don't think this game will inevitably turn out to be a commercial failure. There's an opportunity here.

Not saying this at all. I just don't get the logic of expressing intent to buy both MHW and MHXX, but deciding not to because MHXX isn't currently planned for localisation in the west. That's not really going to help.

It's up to you how you spend your money though.

I want MHXX. I use my Switch almost daily. I'd have bought it in a heartbeat. Probably physically and digitally.

I turned on my PS4 last month and the history showed the last time I had turned it on prior to that was July 2016. I'm not really sold on MHW, but I would have bought it just to give it a shot.

Now though? When they don't release the game I actually want on the system I actually want to play on? Why should I reward that?

That's fair enough. I can't relate, personally. As much as I want XX (which I'm going to import anyway) I'm just excited for more Monster Hunter.

I felt the same way when MH4 was announced for the 3DS

I would have preferred 4th gen to give us thr best of both worlds like 3rd gen did

At least this time im more optimistic that portable fans wont be left in the cold for long

PC version is huge. Even that in itself offers a portable option.

We didnt have a single console option in gen4.. or the option to play on any other hardware for that matter (vita/ps4 crossplay game would have been amazing)

So im not having any sympathy for those rejecting this shift off hand. Its asinine.

This is coming from someone who also owns a switch and loves it.

I think it's easy to say this now, but what if MHW gets stellar reviews? What if Capcom fills it with meaningful content and does a great job supporting it post-launch? What if a bunch of GAF users buy it and the game has an active online community?

Not localizing XX sucks, but I'm not going to swear off the franchise because of it.

I think that post was made with just a smidgen of sarcasm in an attempt to illustrate that having Sony in your corner isn't a guaranteed ticket to super success.
Tbf.
Capcom f up SFV on their own with the limited modes and the focus on pro gamers only.

We will see if MHW is the same.

Capcom is holding back because they don't know how to make money anymore.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that they're afraid everyone will buy XX and skip MHW.

Generations sold half of what 4U sold. Not unreasonable to project Generations U would sell even less. If it's true they don't know how to make money, they also must know how to not lose money, or else they'd quickly be out of business.

Between this thread and the media create thread, you sound like you have a bone to pick or something. Seems like most things I say trigger you. No one is saying Sony's marketing help is a sure fire route to success, but if Capcom can't be bothered to promote the game properly, then someone has to, no?

Having put so much into 4 previous localized Monster Hunter games I feel I should be more pissed than I am given a very likely chance I won't be bothering with either World or XX. The Switch cock blocking shenanigans mixed with the renewed pessimism regarding possible localization of future games will be plenty to raise the fuck Capcom flag though. There will be future games for the Switch I'm confident but it always has to be a bullshit roller coaster with these people. I'm more disappointed in myself for not seeing it coming like this. I'll patiently wait for more favorable announcements and not work myself into a fit but it still has to be said for god sake, fuck you Capcom.

It's great that console owners have their shot to enjoy Monster Hunter, but it's just not for me. I'm 35. I got kids. 99.9% of the gaming I do is on a handheld while something else is going on in my house.

It's not like I want to swear off on it, but I'm just tired of Capcom screwing me over. I'm a Mega Man fan. I'm an Ace Attorney fan. I enjoy the original style Resident Evil games more than the action ones. Capcom doesn't cater to me and that's fine, but I'm not going to throw them any money if they don't.

I'm not 100% against MHW. If it was on Switch I'd give it a shot on there, but it isn't. So I won't. I'd Capcom releases Monster Hunter World Portable in 2019 I'll be back.

In the west? 4U sold 1.5m and Generations sold 900k. Globally it was 4.1m 4U and 4.2m Generations.

I think a Switch+3DS Generations Ultimate probably would've passed 900k in the west.

Switch will get a 5th gen game unless they are pulling the shit they did with 3DS but reverse

Doesnt appear that way with the switch release of XX in Japan

I hope this huge MHW push is the explanation for not localizing for the time being. If future titles are also locked to Japan only that would be extremely disappointing

All hope isnt lost to portable players. Depending on how good the PC port it there may be several great ways to play MHW portably

~>1.5mil and ~>1mil, not half. Its actually fairly stable when you consider that 4U launched with a major promotion alongside the N3DS.

Moreover, globally and all combined, Generations sold better than 4U.

This is kind of nonsense and you should know better. What if I woke up tomorrow and was dead!?

More to the point, though, the games take rather different approaches to the gameplay when one has Styles/Arts and the other, well obviously, doesn't. Not to mention that what you wanted out of MH involved the word *local* your SOL.

Well, of course if local co-op is the main thing that drives your interest in MH, then World isn't for you.

The franchise was built on local co-op.

It was actually originally meant as an online showpiece, but yeah, it blew up because of local play.

Thing is, the person I quoted wasn't discussing local play. If he was, I wouldn't have responded. If that's the actual reason he doesn't want to play World, I totally get it.

That's kinda how I feel, but I'm not waiting. I have no intention to beg or wait for a localization that should be a sure thing.

Capcom is not doing us a favor. Monster Hunter 3DS was successful enough. We passed their tests with flying As.

If they don't want to bring the game over, fine. I'll go spend my money elsewhere, I have plenty of options!

And who is to say that the next fabled Monster Huntet for Switch will be localized? All Capcom is doing here is send a message that handheld Monster Hunter is not important, and hail the console entries from now on! They said it themselves: the focus is 100% on World.

So yeah, you won't see me posting hashtags. I ain't got no time for that.

Dont these localizations usually come after 1 year in Japan. Wouldnt be surprised if it showed up late 2018.

It really shouldn't in this case, since they already localized the vanilla version. That's what's baffling about them leaving money on the table here, as they have most of the hard work already completed and need to only work on a fraction of a localization in comparison. With how red hot the Switch is worldwide, they are closing a door that a lot of people stand to walk through simply by making this game available.

Nope

Not unreasonable to project Generations U would sell even less.

We'll never know but with a new set of hardware thats killing it in software probably not

If it's true they don't know how to make money, they also must know how to not lose money, or else they'd quickly be out of business.

Their financials don't paint the picture as nicely as you wanna insinuate.

I'm not buying a gaming laptop to play Monster Hunter. Plenty of companies are releasing games that I want to play. They'll just get my money instead of Capcom.

This is the thing that infuriates me the most. I never even thought that Capcom wouldn't be localizing XX. Hell, because of the release date in Japan I was certain we were going to get a worldwide release. Up until the last day of E3 I just kept thinking Nintendo would announce it during Treehouse Live. It really makes no sense.

Well, we'll have to just wait - they're primarily focused on World right now.

I'm still betting that MHXX Switch is still in.

Considering Capcom isn't localizing this I don't even see how anyone could trust them with expansions going forward. Nothing is to say they wont fuck us then like they're fucking us now.

For sure. It's why I'll be skeptical of vanilla versions going forward.
