indies that belong on Switch

All I keep hearing is "The Switch is the new home for indies" or "Switch is the new Vita" or "There are so many indies coming to the Switch! It's perfect!"

Meanwhile I'm sitting here looking at Oceanhorn, a $30 version of Cave Story, and hardly any actual release dates for any of this other stuff.

System has been out for 3 months.

Give me all classic JRPG-style games on here.

Cosmic Star Heroine

Didn't the devs try to bring it to Switch but Nintendo made them wait due to "trying not to have ports right now" whatever that means.

NO to Dead Cells. I absolutely do NOT WANT "Early Access" titles on Nintendo platforms period.

I don't care if it's the best thing since sliced bread, if it's not a full, completed game-no buy, no interest.

Salt and Sanctuary-yes, excellent choice!

I'm sure if it does come to the switch it will be at the time it comes out of early access. Don't think Nintendo has an early access program anyways.

Uh, guys, Journey, Helldivers, CounterSpy and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture are Sony first party titles.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Helldivers are on Steam, aren't they? Though I'm guessing console exclusivity is more what Sony cares about.

My point really is more games like Rapture, Journey etc being released on Switch. Going forward, I reckon that's more likely, especially as Sony doesnt seem to care about indie titles as much anymore.

Mighty Gunvolt Burst is great if you haven't bought it.

Next week Gonner finally drops.

Then we have games like Death Squared and Fate Extella in July. :p

yeah it's funny, the big downside of the face button side is the positive for the dpad side. the buttons are pretty small so for the face buttons that bothers me but for the dpad side it's perfect because my thumb can get them all while in the same position.

The D-Pad is excellent if you use D-Pads by rocking your thumb about a central position (the tendon).

If you slide your thumb over to the corners of a D-Pad it's probably rubbish, but the former way of using a D-Pad has been my preferred way for years now. And the Switch's D-Pad delivers a really tactile, crisp response for each of its directions.

The Switch already attracted a lot of great indie titles. And the ones that did released on it turned out selling pretty good too it seems, as the Switch is perfect console for indie titles. Quick and portable and easy to boot up and play.

Rocket League was the biggest one for me. Now that we have that, I'd love to get a compilation of Geometry Wars games (if that's indie.... not sure if is).

Damon Baker mentioned releases every week, and that's what they've done to give breathing room to these games. Next week is GoNNER.

yeah I've used so many dpads that I'm comfortable doing either so that's probably it

I definitely prefer a traditional dpad though and will be day 1 on a joy con with one whenever that comes out I was just surprised when I used the Switch's split dpad but I was expecting it to be bad so it being serviceable was enough for me to be satisfied

It's funny that 80-90% of games in this thread are already available on PS Vita and probably cheaper then Switch games will ever be ;) Srsly if you like playing indies just grab Vita. It's also much better on the go then Switch, becuase of its size and D-pad...

What i want to see on Switch are indies which require more horsepower then Vita:

1. The Witness.
2. The Talos Principle.
3. RIME.
4. Inside.

I've had a Vita since launch day, and am still playing on it today, and I want Spelunky on Switch. Simply owning a Vita doesn't make me want some older indie classics on Switch less, it makes me want them more because of the very obvious fringe benefits the Switch brings over Vita.

Would easily trade a smaller handheld for a much larger, more beautiful and higher resolution display, local multiplayer anywhere, and proper data management (being able to archive games and keep your save would have been amazing on Vita, my 64GB memory card is full with plenty of games to spare) for games which are already on Vita. I want to be able to dock my Switch and keep playing the games too, Thumper wouldn't have been such an easy sell if I couldn't switch back to playing on the TV at 1080p60 when I'm not traveling.

I can't blame others for wanting their favourite indie games on a format they love to play on either. It's why stuff like USFII can somehow sell. The Switch is revitalising for even the most familiar of experiences.

And many of the games released on Switch so far do require its horsepower or its unique capabilities, like Thumper, Snake Pass, Human Resource Machine, Astro Duel Deluxe, and TumbleSeed.

Would involve seeking out a Vita, buying it (they aint cheap), buying a pricey memory card and using it just for indie games. Would rather not.

Indie Games I'm Glad are coming

Overcooked
tumblr_oih6gqmCGJ1tsxj4jo1_400.gif

Well realized singleplayer campaign that converts into multiplayer (vs and coop) with a ton of crazy stages. Very easy to pick up and play to my understanding.

Hollow Knight
dream_nail_01_slash_zpsjqnbnv1a.gif

This is my next big game after Breath of the Wild and possibly Odyssey because the release date is uncertain. I was surprised to learn there is easily 20+ hours of main mission content and the completionist route can be over 40 hours. Tons of skills to experiment with, tons of secrets to unlock like the image above and here I thought it was only Cuphead going for some well realized cartoon animations.

Ultimate Chicken Horse
001_CrazyHorseLevel.gif

This game is so iffy for me. I've heard it controls well but the idea of multiple players building more complicated obstacles on the fly is kind of sketchy because they are also competing to get further in the race. It seems easy to make bullshit obstacles once a lead is established. Also I'm not 100% feeling the art direction. When I look at this and the level of polish in Mario Maker or LittleBigPlanet this kind of puts me off. I like the characters and that's about it. That actual obstacles and environments are lacking.

That said there is still no game like this and it's worth experiencing and sharing in a group.

These are suggestions in the forum so far that I'm loving.

Fez

Hyper Light Drifter would be cool.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

I forgot about this game. This is a great pick.

Now these are games that started out as indie that haven't been announced yet but I want to see coming to the Swtich.

Scribblenaughts

I want a deeply involving puzzle game that is smart and clever to play and experiment with on the go and I'm beginning to learn more and more about Scribblenaughts and I'm disappointed the studio got gutted by Warner Brothers.

Mount and Blade 2 or Kingdom Come Deliverance
1379502415091678276.gif

I already own the first Mount and Blade and the combat system this and Deliverance is using are great ways to emulate 1 to 1 combat. I wouldn't play this type of game on console because a lot would be lost in translation compared to a mouse but with the motion controls and haptic feedback of the Switch this would be a killer experience.

This next game is difficult to encapsulate in 1 image. It's simply not possible.

Role play as king.

This was an overly ambitious project that is worth double dipping again. You will experience some clumsiness in the implementation but you will revel in how gloriously all these different different strategy games come together.

Divinity Dragon Commander deserves a second chance at finding a larger audience.

Hollow Knight is amazing and I am holding my gameplay on the pc for the Switch version. I'll probably finish by then though.

It's kinda criminal Spelunk is not on the Switch.

The worst offender was Rocket League, but it was fixed at E3.

Sure. For me it's the best feature of Switch and i hope there will be more game like Snipperclips or PuyoPuyo Tetris.

Still it's funny to see ppl begging for singleplayer indie games like Shovelknight, Super Meat Boy etc. to be available on the go, while most of them are on Vita for years now and are dirty cheap ;) But ofc it will nice to see them on Switch. Vita isn't good enough for some new indies and Switch can be it's great successor.

Mount and Blade 2 or Kingdom Come Deliverance
Come on now, let's be realistic. I'd imagine Kingdom Come Deliverance would be too demanding to port to the Switch. As for M&B 2 it's also unlikely since it'll probably be more demanding than Warband. At least a M&B Warband port would be doable since it was previously ported to the Nvidia Shield.

Don't know where you live but i bought almost new Vita witch 16GB card two years ago for 80$. Friend of mine did this same 1 year ago. They are dirty cheap right now. Not to mention indie games are muuuch cheaper in PS Store then in eShop. You will save 80$ after buying just a few games ;)

Ofc it isn't perfect soultion, but if your really like idea of indie games "on the go" Vita is the best option.

The actual effects itself aren't strictly impossible. It's made on the Crytek engine though so it would be almost impossible because the engine is already difficult to use even when the Crytek devs support a platform. My point for mentioning both games is to insinuate I want the type of medieval combat game with 1 to 1 tracking these 2 will provide. Everything else that makes these games unique (i.e. Mount and Blade's large armies and Deliverance's focus on an epic singleplayer campaign) are secondary concerns.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Does WayForward count? Because I want a physical copy of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse on the Switch. Hell, gimme the Mighty Switch Force games, too. But definitely Shantae.

Ya'll need to get a Vita. I know the system is starting to get old but it is THE portable indie machine.

And everyone should play Spelunky but I can't imagine playing it without a proper d-pad.

Ding
I won't even play Spelunky on PS4 because the Vita's D-Pad makes that version the definitive.

However, I am all for more people being able to experience the wonderful game. So out of all indie games not announced, if I could choose one, Spelunky would be it. Not for me, but so I could badger my friends who have never owned a system that could play it to buy it. :p

I would kill for Crypt of the Necrodancer, Darkest Dungeon, and Hyper Light Drifter, especially if they got physical copies. Holy moly.

Cosmocoria, Hyper Light Drifter, and Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight would be perfect for Switch.

Yes, I know the latter two are made in Game Maker, but its all the more reason Yoyo Games needs to get up their asses and support Nintendo Switch and 3DS platforms.

Edit: Might as well as Strafe and SuperHot to the list.

Do you own a Vita OP? Because all of those games are already on Vita. You can already play all of those games in handheld format right now.

What the Switch needs is games that aren't already on Vita.

Also no proprietary memory. I love me some indies but my vita gets scarce few because I'm not paying for that memory.

Edit: I want Risk of Rain

I want pinball arcade with option to play detached joycons with the screen in portrait mode. Huge design oversight that Nintendo couldn't figure out a way to have a kickstand that would work for either way. Would be great for classic vertical format shooters too. 2 player classic Raiden with two joy-con controllers anywhere on the go...would of been cool. Hopefully hardware revision 2.0 will have it.

Looks like you might be getting pinball, just not that pinball:

Zen Studios said:
There will be some awesome announcements coming soon that I think you will be excited to hear! We love Switch & we sure do love our pinball!

Still, if Zen Pinball does well (which I imagine it would), there's no reason why TPA wouldn't make it's way over... well other than FarSight is a bit of a mess with all the different platforms and bugs, and other crap (split releases to Stern Pinball arcade) and so forth. Still, Pinball + Switch is a good match in theory, the HD Rumble™ should be nice, and the large screen / on the go aspect fits nicely too.

Plus it'd be cool if they supported a vertical mode when playing portable as it's a much better way to display a table (and a portrait mode on a TV too I guess, though that's a lot less common for HDTVs than PC monitors).

I am a Nintendo Fan but I dont get why spelunky has the nintendo magic. Just seen some gameplay of it but it seems like a typical indie game. Anyone here who is kind enough to explain whats so special about spelunky?
