...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
It drives me nuts as. I always wipe my rims down after I get done with a drive. It's probably going to get even worse if I opt for new rotors and bigger calipers.

Also seems I'll still have to do a tiny bit of grinding my the Gyrodynes. But it's only on 2 bolts, so it should take less than 10 minutes for all 4 wheels.

Still torn about the color of the rims. I'm now thinking about a Satin Titanium color. Just dark but not black.

Imo, I love the color of your Gyrodyne wheels now - the machined look is awesome, so it's hard for me to recommend anything else.

I thought caliper covers were cheap mods that people put in their cheap cars to make it look like they have Brembo brakes or something, didn't realize there were also covers for specific purpose like eliminating brake dust. How does that work?

The really cheap and shitty ones, for sure. These are all aluminum, with custom engravings - the calipers I have now are surprisingly bare and ugly. I already have massive rotors on my car measuring 15 inches front and back, so of course I'm not trying to pose (especially since I won't have any fake logos). They basically cup a lot of the dust and guide it away from the wheel. Obviously, I'll still have some wheel dust - but significantly reduced.

Post pics when you get them, I wanna see how they look in detail before I pull the trigger for the F-Type.

Coffee and Klan meet!

My only (real) criticism here is the redundancy of the vanity plate on the Lamborghini,. So many puns, inside gags etc and he basically Xzibited himself.

Anyone have any recommendations as to proper exterior cleaning products to buy?

I am mostly looking for a sponge/glove that is essentially impossible to pick up debris in. I don't want to run the risk of having a small stone lodged in the sponge and streak my car.

I used to have those gloves with the string things on the end but I dunno.

I know. That plate is terrible. I grill him about it all the time. As if people couldn't tell what it was.

I have some more creative ideas for a vanity plate when I get a Lambo.

I am starting to itch towards an nicely used AP2 S2000. These cars are so fun and pretty affordable right now. They are also going up on resale... so tempted!!

An S2000 is never a bad idea and I'm pretty sure the value on those is only going to go up over time.

Went with the CX3. Really nice car.

Yay, great choice!

The cabin IS slightly smaller than I'd like but the interior is really high-end. I was quite impressed with it. The car is a visual looker too.

Fantastic features, too. Love the touch screen, heated seats, the blind spot aid, and rear-view camera. I got the Touring AWD for a good deal. I financed it but will be paying under $190 for a payment - which I am cool with.

Yeah, Mazda has done a nice job of making their cars feel very premium while keeping their cost down. And it helps that they look nice and are reliable at the same time.

Finally got some more mounts for my GoPro.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzGaaBmzS3s

Sad to say the head mount doesn't work and I'm not even that tall! @___@

There's like at least 6 inches between the top of my hair and the top, but it still looks like this. I'm gonna try my chest mount tomorrow, maybe that'll work better.

Also, I really don't know how RegularCars does it... you look and feel stupid with a GoPro on your head lol.

Will watch later. Getting a GoPro for my Miata is on my list eventually.

I've been using a Montana Original boar hair brush, along with two bucket + grit guards with great results for some time now. Added bonus is that the wash goes way faster with this setup.

The actual set that I won:

I understand the purpose given the brake dust, but the aftermarket for econo box caliper covers has utterly ruined these things. It makes your stunning Jag look like a 96 Honda. Someone at work put some of those on his 5.0 stang and my god even in black it looks disgusting.

Eh, caliber covers always look good from a distance. However, they look like cheap plasticy parts when they get worn or even slightly dirty.
I hear Ceramic break pads help reduce brake dust. Never tried it out, but a few members on the MB AMG forums talk about using them and it helping out a bit.
I use a Meguiars hot rim cleaner when washing my rims. It seems to be the best out of all the rim cleaners I have used.

It was a gorgeous summer evening. Went on an amazing drive with some friends.

Perfect roads, little traffic, and tons of exhaust and engine noise. Felt like I was in a Forza Horizon game. Lol. Wish I would have setup a GoPro.
Must have been so much fun. A few weeks ago I finally got a moment and got a few friends together to drive. We had a '01 BMW E3, '16 Ford Mustang ecoboost, and a souped up '15 Jetta. Such a random bunch of cars - but it was pretty damn fun. Pretty sure we would have been ticketed for a few things...but thankfully no cops Lmao

My method isn't efficient, but then washing your car by hand isn't about efficiency haha.
I use the two bucket method and use a microfiber sponge for the non-glass parts above my wheel wells/ lower bumpers. Then I use a brush to clean the lower parts of my car (that get more contact with dirt/pebbles). Every few strokes, I wash the tool/brush in the second water only bucket before dipping it into the soap bucket. Matt Farah has a good video for the method

I need to buy a new car within the next two years. Car will be for work, and there are certain restrictions/parameters. Can't go into many details. But it has to sit 4, have a certain minimum wheelbase, no 4 cyl, no luxury nameplates etc.

I've previously had a Trans Am, Firehawk, GTO, and currently have a G8. So you can see what kind of cars I like. I really like RWD too.

The SS is gone, and I don't really want to go back to a 2-door so Camaro and Mustang are out. The 300 and Charger are okay. Maxima is alright as well, but FWD. There's the Kia Stinger...which is very promising, but I just can't get over the nameplate (I know).

I'm torn between the 300, Maxima, and Stinger right now. Will have to see how the Kia holds up...I got about 20 months to go.

Drove the SV on some back roads today. Had my friend follow in a Turbo S. He wanted to hear how his car sounded liked from the outside. Lol

Man, that thing in an absolute attack on the senses. Feels so visceral. Also the first time driving it with the top down which amplified the experience even further.

I got Lambo fever. Think I'm going to make a very stupid decision tomorrow...

Funny you mention SV. I saw this a few hours ago. Off the lot, still had temp paper plates.

My son's been doing something really awesome lately. When he hears motorcycles pass by he makes a bzzzzzz sound. And for nicer cars he goes brrrrr. The other day he heard a McLaren 570S, looked at me, leaned in and went "brrrrr". And as we were sitting outside at the patio at the place to right, the SV started up, he cracks a smile and goes "brrrrr" again.

Yeah, the SS would've been right up your alley. Would an ATS-V pass muster? I know it's in the luxury segment, but to me it's less flashy than its German counterparts.

Thank you, but can you elaborate more on the two bucket/grit guard approach?

Basically you have a clean (your soap water) and a dirty (your clean rinse water) bucket. With a mitt, you use the clean bucket to wash your car, then you wash off the mitt in the dirty bucket. Then you dunk your mitt into the clean bucket and repeat. This method separates more grit and dirt out of the washing process.

Charger/300 feels most in line with what you've had in the past. Too bad the SS is on the way out. Maxima kind of seems like - one of these things is not like the other - maybe check out the Infiniti Q50? Can't say I know that much about them but it checks the right boxes unless it's too luxury?

Do it. AutoGAF loves stupid decisions, we thrive on them. This thread wouldn't exist if not for our stupid decisions.

How's the handling? Does it compare favorably to your GT4?

Boltz covered the bulk of it above, but this is a grit guard - the idea is that it lets the dirt particles picked up by your mitt or brush settle at the bottom of your rinse bucket and works as sort of a baffle to prevent the grit from coming back up into your cleaning tool - it also serves as sort of a 'washboard' to let you shake as much of the crud out of your mitt/brush as possible before dipping back into your nice clean soapy water.

The one linked is reasonably priced and fits perfectly in those $4 Home Depot orange buckets.

Also, if you're looking for microfiber, this is the place for great stuff at good prices. They also have an Amazon storefront.

Yeah, we can't use any luxury brands. Maxima is so unlike my usual car, but the Charger is a little too boy racer for me. I got time, so it's not a rush. If they brought back the SRT 300 I would steer in that direction. I know I gotta change with the times too, hence the Maxima / Stinger entering my mind. Maxima I just really like the interior /looks. I know it won't be fun to drive lol.

People recommend Maguires for wash. Is that a good brand to use?

Looking at getting a new car in the next Year or year and a half. Was trying to decide if I wanted to go luxury or not, currently drive a 2006 Scion TC with around 114k miles on it, but it's been giving me problems lately.

Really looking into the 2018 Toyota Camry XSE V6 or maybe a year later depending on when I buy. Seems like the best of both worlds, Toyota reliability and maintenance but luxury looking insides and speed.

The price is the only thing I feel like maybe for 36k there might be some better choices.

For stuff you can get at a regular store, it's pretty good in my experience. I've been using some Chemical Guys stuff I buy by the gallon from Autogeek, mostly because I keep catching it on sale as I'm running out.

One thing about the brush - you want to soak it for a while (~15 mins+) to soften the bristles before you start using it. I usually fill my rinse bucket and chuck the brush in there while I do my wheels (split spokes suck). If you're looking for a wheel cleaner, Sonax or Meguiars Mirror Bright are pretty great, IMO.

I'm inclined to believe this, I just really would love this vehicle. Seeing BMW nix AWD from the X1 has me thinking otherwise.

Que? BMW X1 comes in sDrive and xDrive. You are mistaken.

You're confusing the fact that the sDrive models are now front-wheel drive and sitting on a Mini Cooper platform, instead of RWD.

So I'm waiting downtown sitting by the street waiting for the fireworks to start when a challenger R/T, Turbo Beetle, and a FoST pass by racing. The FoST was in the back, I guess recording, and the challenger and Beetle were neck and neck. It was a pretty funny thing to see.

There's a part of me that really wants to lease one of those to fuck around in for a couple of years. It's a big part of me, but it'll have to wait.

It truly does look like a fun sedan to toy with. It has grown on me since I first saw it at last years Autoshow.

See, from where I am - if they were neck and neck on the street that would mean someone is driving on the oncoming lane

That Volvo thread is a doozy...

If the elections hasn't proved it enough, that Volvo thread proves that GAF lives in its own bubble. I haven't met anybody in real life who gets a hard on every time somebody mentions an electric car or whatever.

If anything, most people I know would rather keep their ICE's rather than spending money on electric or a hybrid and even if they're buying a new car, it sure as hell ain't going to be a Prius, Leaf, Model 3 or whatever.

Yet here on GAF, a majority get a raging boner once electric cars get mentioned.

IMO until the nameplates like Corolla, Civic, etc. completely stop selling ICE and switch to hybrids or electric, we've still got a loooooong road ahead from completely eliminating ICE or big bad oil.

Oh lol. I've been asking buddies if anyone knows the driver of the Beetle. Dude definitely had a big turbo in there.

Tbh it's probably because of where I live but majority of the people I know want or own hybrid cars due to saving money on gas. Gaf is a bubble when it comes to the majority of topics discussed in OT though. Lol.

I have never seen these before; let us know how they turn out once you get them installed.

Got them the other day. Paint is nice, smooth and glossy. The rivets, while not functional, are not just fake paint. The material is a very nice aluminum. But I love the embossed logos the most - I really do. They're etched into the paint, and not just some cheap vinyl stickers. They add some pizzaz that is otherwise missing from the wheel area.

They also take 5 seconds to install once the wheel is off. You just screw them on top of the brake caliper. Waiting for my spacers to come in, and I'll be on my way to install.

Idk electric cars especially Tesla are still attention grabbing novelties where I live. I volunteer at events for work and it's always next to the electric vehicle owner's booth and it always boggles my mind how much public attention a Tesla on display can get. At the same time everyone at work avoids the electric fleet vehicles because nobody wants to be bothered by them...

The difference between an ordinary electric car and a Tesla is a gap the width of the Pacific Ocean.

We'll see how long it takes for the incumbent automakers to figure it out. The Chinese are in the lead here. I give the Europeans a fighting chance. The Japanese and Americans except Tesla are fucked, their heads are buried deep in the sand and they'll suffocate down there until they are all bankrupt. The Japanese still think hydrogen fuel cells will be a thing LMAO.

You pretty much said it yourself... besides Tesla, everyone avoids other electrics.

Tesla's the only one who's done it right so far with the S and X and it remains to be seen whether the 3 is going to be a success. Sure, it's technically a success already with all the pre-orders and whatnot but those are the early adopters.

Here's a great image that explains why I think we've got a long road for electric cars:

DiffusionOfInnovation.png

At this point in time, we've barely eclipsed the innovators stage and hit the early adopters... once the Model 3 hits I imagine we'll get close to the early majority stage, but not enough to cross over.

Then you also have the underlined. For some reason, people think Tesla = luxury car so your neighbor Joe Dirt isn't going to bother looking at Teslas(it doesn't help that you can't just walk in to a Tesla dealership here in Texas for example). Obviously the Model 3 hopes to change that thought, but the car isn't even out yet so it's hard to judge whether the 3 can change that.

That said, I'm not against electrics... I know it's the future and I'd actually love a Model 3 as a daily driver since I have a long ass commute but at the same time I'm not willing to wait until 2018 or 19 for one. I just think that it's a little short sighted to believe that we'll all be driving electrics in 5 years... 10 years at the earliest IMO.

Also, I personally don't think the incumbents can figure it out ASAP. But like I said, we've got a long road before the electric revolution begins. I think once gas stations have been replaced by superchargers or whatever equivalent then I think the revolution can start. But at this point time, it's tough to convince Joe Dirt to get an electric since you yourself have to build your life around it.
