There isn't a younger version of Bernie Sanders right now so I hope he runs, I'd vote for him.

Out of the of the alternatives to him, who's not going to take corporate money?

Who's going to run on single payer? and actually come off genuine about the issue

I think that the GOP has a way stronger playbook to deal with Kamala Harris than they had for Obama all those years ago... and it scares the shit out of me to think about it.

I hate to say it because I really like Kamala but she'd be better served as VP in the next election. We need as safe of a pick as possible for the president and a black woman is going to cause a lot of people to turn their nose and either not vote or go back to Trump again. That is the unfortunate reality.

Bernie is what Dems have needed for a while and this shows it.

He's definitely too old, but there are lesson to learn from his ascendancy.

I don't know, but I think Elizabeth Warren potentially is the future of party. And Bernie Sanders is currently the voice of the party.

The only Bernie 2.0 with the youth, charisma, message, battling spirit, principles, and intersectionality that can unite the Democrat party and progressives is the one, the only,

NINA TURNER

America is ready. The corrupt DNC that LOST with Hillary tried to cast her aside, but she is the living breathing Bernie 2.0 that can carry his torch.

As for going against Trump... if you want to see a senile sexist and racist white old man get TRIGGERED every other day on twitter over a presidential campaign, pit him against a STRONG SMART BLACK WOMAN. Sorry Kamala... voters will sniff out any elite-groomed focus-grouped candidate.

Excuse me, the HONORABLE Nina Turner

Gillibrand has my vote in what is sure to be an insane primary and likely not for the best reasons of Bernie tries to run again.

Everyone hated Clinton because she sounds like a robot while talking.

Warren is even worse at public speaking, so I'll pass.

That people like cult of personalities and people who have large egos?

This guy is trying it again Ted Cruz. He'll lose, but if he won I could see him eyeing the Presidency in 8 years. https://www.betofortexas.com/

Nina Turner. Look her up. She IS Bernie 2.0. She DOES have the credentials in front of any progressive. She DOES have the "genuine" thing going for her. She has the anti-corporate money thing going for her. She has the single payer thing going for her.

She would win handily against Trump, even after accounting for the 30%+ racist base of voters that will always vote Republican.

Gotcha. Sadly I could see HIllary-GAF staying home if it is not a pragmatic Clinton-endorsed corporate puppet running on the Dem side.

Someone here actually floated out Nina Turner.

I can't.

Too strong and principled for you?

Shortly after the election, I was of the opinion that anyone associated with 2016 should steer clear of 2020 for the Democrats' own sake. If ever there were an election we need a clear break from, it's that one. From the primary to the general, many are still somewhat traumatized by last year.

My opinion on that is somewhat softening. Bernie could play a guiding role in fielding new progressive or democratic-socialist candidates. I do still hope he avoids taking a central role on any new campaign. The momentum behind the new candidate needs to be 100% for the candidate themselves, not as any sort of "revenge" or "comeback" run for avatars of previous candidates.

homeboy here sez bernie should quit politics to 'focus on himself' and that he'd prefer more trump over him
One, don't call me 'homeboy' homeboy. Two, I said he should stop pulling focus on himself. He steals the spotlight and is an attention hog. He's very much like Trump even if Bernie's fans don't want to see it.

Zuckerberg has literally zero charisma. There is not a single chance in hell.

He's not a great speaker, but his message is really on point. He exudes a level of genuine decency and compassion that might end up making him very palatable at a time when brash personalities dominate politics.

Moreover, he speaks about pie-in-the-sky liberal ideas with the same level of optimism that Trump had when he spoke about the dream initiatives of hardline conservatives.

Not everyone, but an important part of the country when it comes to voting. And, it wasn't because she sounded like a robot, it is because they didn't believe her.
(Because she's bad at lying.)

You need a candidate who's good at bullshitting. It's an important part of being elected as a politician.

Nah, Zuckerberg is out as soon as he opens his mouth. People can't stand the guy.

He's too old, but propping up his corpse Weekend at Bernie's (cough) style would still be an improvement over Trump.

Al Franken might be a good candidate if he was interested in running.

This is why Obama lied his ass off about an '08 run until he actually announced it.

(This is also a reason I think Gillibrand might be the strongest option in '20 as she's doing the exact same thing and has shown scarily good instincts elsewhere.)

I totally forgot about this aspect of Obama's plan. Dude knows what's up.

GOP might as well disband in the face of such a challenge.

Nina Turner has literally done nothing, and is only known because she was Sanders public spokesperson who yelled a lot and made an ass out of herself on twitter.

10/10 would nominate for POTUS

I think there are literally a dozen people who exist in the US who want Nina Turner to run for POTUS.

Hope not. Don't like the guy, personally.

But whatever happens, the party should unite behind one candidate long before the primaries.

Why?

Republican candidates can make each other look bad, but at the end of the day, voters fall in line and vote for their party.

Democrats, on the other hand, can permanently put off people from a candidate by their attacks during the primaries. This happened to Hillary with Bernie and those voters could have made a difference.

Franken would be an interesting pick because he's pretty funny and has some charisma (which help with casual voters), plus he could play the angle of not being a traditional career politician

The difference is Warren sounds like she's coming from the heart even with her "robotic tone". And Hilary just sounds fake, like lip service. But at least she would have fight for something unlike our current president.

The Democrats need something. They are still pretty shambolic and still coming to terms with why they lost the last election. It is not really Bernie as leader than they need to embrace, but his politics and then some. Hillary was very poor on articulating an inspiring vision.

I think if nothing else, Trump has shown the problem with 0 government experience. What is Zuckerberg going to do in the Whitehouse?

Oh so now Ageism is A-Okay.

I don't think it's age-ism more so than realism. I don't think an 80 year old would be a good choice to inherit the most stressful job in the world because there's a strong likelihood that his body wouldn't be able to withstand the demands of the job. And like Bam Bam Baklava said, I wouldn't expect a 55 year old to be the starting running back of an NFL team

Too old ... pretty much the same age as Trump and Hillary
Under FBI investigation ... who isn't? Funny this wasn't a problem for Clinton.

I don't particularly agree with this, particularly in terms of business practices and the conduct of his estate...

He'll run, he'll be seen as a legitimate threat by his primary opponents this time, and he'll get destroyed by opposition research and attack ads.

A Senator from Ohio (a state Democrats need) who is there BECAUSE she was a passionate defender of the principles and ideas millennials and independents are clamoring for. Nina Turner is a the best spokesperson for that future vision of America.

What did you disagree with her on in Twitter?

The man's going to be like 80, can you really not see how that might be too old for the planet's most stressful job? The job ages people, look at Obama's before and after.

Franken might be a good pick because of his comedy element. Maybe the only way to fight against Trump is to have someone comedically disembowel him at a debate.

Hes also hella smart.

Fighting Trump will be easy if he decides to run again(I expect Trump yo step down after his time is up if he's not forced out). After 4 years if Trump pretty sure he'll have done nothing and fucked up enough via Twitter to have enough ammo against him.

Who won once running unopposed and got side swiped for her second election bid, currently holds no office and does some random news show or something.

All she did was ramble on twitter about how the DNC took out Sanders and killed America or something.

Yea, she's an idiot and shows no qualities for running for POTUS.

I don't want cult of personalities to be President, unlike you.

i like franken but he's a smarmy ass dude from new york. most of the country would hate his guts that said nobody fucking likes trump, whoever the dem nominee is has a good shot to win so long as they don't campaign as a managerial technocrat who tells voters to go to their website.
