Android |OT8| ConFuchsia say beta is better

I must be lucky in that no app I use seems to be in that boat. Some seem to be more ahead on Android though.

Snapchat already came up in the discussion, but many apps never make it to Android, or arrive long after their iOS release (take Mario Run as an example).

While it's true the bulk of Android sales is larger than those of iPhones, the markets they're being sold to are very much different. iPhones are exclusively sold to a high end market, while Android has phones that go for less than $100 even. I'm not sure how much of the sales of Android phones come from high end devices, but I'm 99% confident it's not the majority. This makes Android a less interesting platform to develop for, as most of iOS clients not only have the means to spend money on apps, but they also do it. Sad, but true.

I say all this as an Android user who's part of the problem, as I have never bought an Android app.

Edit: to clarify, I haven't pirated apps either. I actually barely use apps, aside from the usual social network and Microsoft's Office, for which I pay a 365 subscription.

Edit 2: This article, while outdated, illustrates another part of the problem: costs and time to develop, as well as the fragmentation of the Android market http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/ios-apps-still-better-android-apps/

Though as a iPad and Android user I don't see much of it. Sure some apps come out first on one, but I consider that a bit different to apps are much more infrequently updated to have feature parity.

I kind of expect flagships to be less than 10% of the market overall.

I think that's a thing with low end phones. They are treated as feature phones by a segment. Some don't even know what an app store is.

And for me, some who has in the past bought lots of apps...I have pretty much settled and so rarely buy any now. But that's just as true on my iPad. It seems now like I only spend money on apps either for games (which I haven't bought in over a year) or to update existing apps that due to reasons require additional purchases. Twitter apps with limited tokens being one reason. I'll be rebuying Fenix when the new version is out of beta I guess.

pixel 2 better have the LG 2 year warranty :p

in the end it depends on apps. honestly for me the social media apps I use typically are better supported on android, because of the less lenient restrictions on google play. devs can push out hotfixes and features as quick as they want, and all the popular apps do.

with the way sharing works, its also just way easier to share stuff between apps on android than ios.

snapchat is bad on android, any other apps seem fine from my usage. What are other recent awful android apps with good ios versions?

Google making the only phone worth a damn this year. They need to fix that camera though. It looks out of place.

I need some help guys. I'm about the get my first smartphone, but I can't really find one that has all the stuff I want.

My brother has the Axon 7 and he likes it and from what I've seen I dig it as well plus the 350€ is a good price. Now I have looked at some phones (Samsung Galaxy, HTC U11, Huawei, 1+, Google Pixel, LG, Moto ....) and the LG G6 was the one I was the leaning towards the most due to the screen size/resolution, price, overall quality and customization, but after hearing LG having bootloop that also includes this phone I got turned off of it so I'm back to the Axon 7 again. I looked at the Samsung Galaxy S8, but the build quality (case and display cracking after falling down etc) and the huge price concerns me, the HTC U11 is expensive and has no headphone jack.

So I'm looking for a phone that cost at most 500€, has 5.5" display and the resolution is at least higher than full hd, headphone jack of course and overall good quality build so not something like Samsung (cracking display/case) and LG (bootloop).
Google Pixel and the 1+5 is no go for me, since it's expensive and only full hd.

ps. Are there any upcoming phones in the coming months I should be looking out for? If so I could wait.
pps. I'm going to use the phone for a long time 6+ years.

No phone is gonna last that long besides like an iPhone.

Maybe look at a LG V20 because that allows you to swap batteries?

Leeco hits keep coming.

Why 6+ years? If it's a cost issue you're better off getting something cheaper like a Moto G5 Plus and replacing after a couple years.

Speaking of which. Im doing some research on xda and it seems like flashing Europe fw on us xz premium has negative impact on signal strength?

Sony dude, it's not hard to sell me on a new phone, but man.

I will admit, I did finally get to use a Pixel for a little bit earlier this week (a user had one) and holy shit is the thing like BUTTER. I have a 6P and the Pixel puts it to shame. And badly.

Flashing a different region firmware should not affect signal strength

Well maybe not 6 years (3-5 years), just until I can't use it anymore. I'm not the guy who upgrades something every two years or so.

Regarding LG, weren't it for the bootloop issue I'd go for it besides the V20 isn't available for whatever reason in europe (germany).

I've looked into it but from what I've seen it's mostly in full hd, only some stuff and the camera is in native 4k.

you can set it to always display 4k with a simple hack

Not interested in the Red phone?
I highly doubt it'll last this year and I'm not spending over $1,500 on a Android phone. Screw that.

I told you Pixel will be in your future. It's the only logical upgrade from a 6P. I bet it'll have an amazing camera too.

Google Pixel and the 1+5 is no go for me, since it's expensive and only full hd average battery life.

Scratch that with the higher than full hd and 5.5" display requirement, since I wasn't aware that the battery life isn't that durable, I'm looking for a phone that has a good battery life (3500 mAh at the very least).

Xiaomi Mi Mix is something that caught my eye, bad sadly it doesn't support the LTE band 20.

1+5 or 1+3T then? They're cheap, have good battery life and 5.5" displays.

It's true. I was just moaning about this with a colleague, there are almost no phones out right now that I would consider buying.

Trying to get rid of my Nexus 6P as the battery life has become intolerable. I just want something that lasts the day at this point.

I'l check it out.

Resolution doesn't hit battery life much. Software is most of the factor.

Nah, that was just a requirement (full hd) I set but dropped it since it's also fine and restrict the choices for finding a phone.

Coming back to the bootloop issue, which worries me somewhat. How usual is this and is there a fix for it?

The cracked part is the part that hit the edge of the table, case doesn't cover it.

There was just a single dead line of pixels where the crack is, but then the whole bottom half went white a few minutes later. I didn't buy the insurance thing because I never drop phones. Wonder how much this will end up costing.

Get Samsung Care.

Deductible for the replacement is $100.

Hopefully this is the right place for this!

I'm looking at getting a new phone soon, as my 2014 Moto G is starting to show its age. I'm sure Android-GAF will have plenty of recommendations :p

Requirements:
Available in the UK
~£200 maximum
Micro SD support
Headphone jack
At least 32GB internal storage
Good battery life
Would prefer a smaller phone I can use with one hand

Currently looking at the Lenovo P2 (£210) - it meets all my requirements other than its slightly larger size, and makes up for that with crazy good battery life. I'm also considering just going for the straight upgrade to a Moto G4 (£140). Anyone with any experience with these or other suggestions?
