There's more to talk about in any game than PUBG, lol. I fully get why it's fun, but it's the same conversation every week, just them talking about how great it is and regurgitating the same reasons why. Other games actually have different qualities to them that can start a conversation.

but aren't as fun.

These recent conversations about Persona 5 and Yakuza 0 made me realize something... Why are all Japanese games so long? Just this year we have Yakuza, Nioh, Nier, Gravity Rush 2, Persona 5, and Zelda. Last year FF15. I wonder if it's the Japanese mentality to explain everything over and over and over and over, which naturally inflates the game's length. Nothing is ever succinct or subtle in Japanese games. Maybe there's something lost in translation? Maybe Japan's affinity to dialogue-heavy stuff like RPGs and visual novels?

And I'm not saying Western games are immune to this issue, but at least there's more of an indie scene that can give us stuff like Abzu, Furi, or Inside.

I mean, Nier and Zelda aren't really good examples of this.

There a Halle Berry Catwoman game?
I played that game. It was... not atrocious, but definitely not good. I liked it enough to finish it, though I remember some frustration with checkpointing (or lack thereof). I think the game had some decent music and atmosphere? It's been a while.

The other thing that sticks out; despite being advertised as such, Halle Berry is hardly in the game. A lot of Catwoman's lines were actually performed by Jennifer Hale, in secret.

kind of a bummer that Alex seems to be the only one that was into 0 for the whole journey. Vinny seemed into it and liked the story but maybe he was disappointed by the extent of the combat/heat system? I hope they follow through and take a break after kiwami comes out, maybe 2018 or something

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Fantastic finish to Beast in the East. Dan seems to be getting tired of it by this time so glad it's over before they lost all enthusiasm. I sincerely hope they do Kiwami too but maybe have Alex play the game with Dan and Vinny doing color commentary.

I think they Alex loved the game while the other two enjoyed it. I think the ending cut scenes were too long and weren't really exciting. I guess they were burnt out by that point. I'm still surprised by how much trouble Dan has with the combat.

yeah i'm shocked. I thought he beat DmC on all difficulty levels? I think I can count the number of times he dodged/rolled in BitE on one hand

It's a real shame that GB doesn't do things like sponsor their features or anything like that that the youtubers do. I 100% want to try out Yakuza 0 but as a result I stopped watching the feature.

If it's like Dark Souls, then I'll take my time until I run through enemies after dying a lot.

When Y3 became 100% 3D, I was just walking around enjoying the world. It was so damn relaxing. The game's atmosphere with the ambient noise in the cities and countrysides is just stellar. That's how I played the Yakuza games most of the time.

While Yakuza doesn't have the most fantastic fighting system, Dan got annoyed whenever his enemies blocked / dodged / hit him back, or when his 10 straight button mashes left him swinging at the air or overriding the heat prompt, so it's safe to say he wasn't being very rational and was er... playing it wrong.

Btw, doing the final boss fight in Rush style is fucking fantastic (although I believe the "intended" way was for the player to
mirror Shibusawa's style since they're both Dragons
, but you can more or less easily beat it by doing whatever, anyway - I was surprised Beast worked so well for him, to be honest.

I would legit stop watching GB if they had sponsored features from publishers/developers. Having non-publishers/developers ads during the Bombcast live stream is bad enough.

You mean videos comissioned by game creators? Those are just advertisements.

GB should never do sponsored content.

Edit: Wait, what is even the upside, how does it help you play the game? I seriously don't get it.

I was just about to wonder-out-loud how much they even get from inserting those podcast ads. I guess the theoretical push towards premiumship would offset any time-related costs, but still.

I have a lot of catching up to do on the Yakuza series. I think I stopped around episode 12.

Did Dan just get burnt out? He seemed to like it up until I stopped watching.

I thought so too. I think the weekly format is a big reason for why he kept forgetting how to play the game. He kept forgetting to block up until the end of the game during this episode.

Yeah Y0 had some great atmosphere when I played it. It just has a ton for you to do.

It's kinda crazy how much resources they spent on Yakuza 0 without a sponsor behind it, if you think about it. Even for a company like CBS. I wonder if they get any pressure to optimize their ROI.

Imagine a Kickstarter kind of deal where people can vote with their wallet what kind of content they'd want GB to produce. *thinkingemoji*

I can only imagine the amount of paperwork and departments that would need to be involved to get a sponsor wouldn't be worth it for a one off feature.

I assume the sponsors are those who pay for premium memberships since GB offers that kind of content while other sites under the CBSi umbrella don't have a similar model. CNET and Gamespot offer up all of their content for free with sponsors and ads, but GB has their premium stuff covered by subs. At least that's how it should work.

The more interesting thing was that the Shenmue ER wasn''t premium only.

i mean one of the reasons jeff said they stopped doing anything heavily produced was roi

i don't think that was coming from above as much as jeff and vinny prioritizing themselves though

I mean, question is how many new subscribers Yakuza 0 got them, or how many users now feel more inclined to re-new their subscriptions because of Yakuza 0. That's a lot of content after all and if the answer is: "not that many" it would be kinda bad. Opportunity costs and all. The podcast too, but at least that got some ads now. And I know many will say who cares since they're paid with subscriptions, but I can't imagine CBS always sharing that sentiment.

Yakuza and Steal My Sunshine are the biggest reasons I feel inspired to resub.

I 100% understand ads in the normal version of Bombcast but having them playing during piss breaks in a premium only stream drives me up the walls

They'll likely go on viewer numbers and maybe some first premium video watched data. You can't really establish too much more without significant user research.

It does feel like Giant Bomb have significant editorial freedom. I think they just keep out of their content as long as they're making profit and it doesn't feel like they need to pitch anything outside of them unless a budget is needed for it.

Is this a UPF thing? I haven't seen it before.

Live version of the Bombcast. Since they're pissing anyway, I may as well have a funny ad spot rather than stock music while they go off.

I actually listen to the ads less now that I watch the Bombcast live, since I take a break when they do instead of just pausing the bombcast.
