BREAKING: The Senate voted against the GOP bill to make sweeping changes to Affordable Care Act.

That's the sole update so far from the Washington Post. More to come.

Live count from the New York times here: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/07/25/us/politics/senate-votes-repeal-obamacare.html

The specifics for tonight:

The Senate is debating and voting on amendments to a bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Tuesday night's vote is on a version of the Senate's health care overhaul plan, called the Better Care Reconciliation Act. Because parts of the amendment do not meet certain budget rule requirements, it needs 60 votes to pass.

The Senate is currently voting on a repeal and replace amendment.

McCain fucking voted FOR IT. After that long "epic!!!!" speech about bi-partisanship and how he wouldn't vote on the bills presented to him, he fucking lied through his teeth.

Someone who's good at america explain to me why they went to such effort today when they knew they didn't have the votes to pass it.

The big effort they went through today was to start a process by which a bill could be passed. This particular one didn't pass just now, but the process they voted to start is ongoing, and there will be other proposals and amendments offered again and again and again over the course of this process which will play out over the next week or so.

Bob Corker voted No.....wooooooooow. We knew the bill was trash but the fact that it is THIS trash blows my mind. Also, McCain voting yes....he's trash.

I don't think this is the final bill. It's some amendment or procedure. Or possibly an attempt to override the parliamentarian ruling on parts of it not meeting the Byrd Rule.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.

Can we say mean things about McCain now, or do his well wishers want to wait for the results of the "slim repeal" vote as well?

I'm just baffled as to why they even fucking bothered. They needed 60 votes, there was never a chance in hell here. Just a waste of everyone's time.

Lol, can't believe anyone fell for that shit. McCain is shit, he's a fat talker but just another party line bitch like he always has been. Just because his brain is rotting now, people thought he was going to change, thought the myth of the 'Maverick' was going to come gloriously to life. The nonsense people will grip onto when these people blow that smoke.

Why did they even vote on BCRA? It was already determined to not be fit for budget reconciliation, so they would just have to totally change it later

What a complete asshole liar. We need to make sure he's held accountable for that

The dude will be dead soon, only one that can hope him accountable at this point is Satan making sure hell is warm enough for him when he dies. Just another fucking conman.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
McCain voted yes, just after making an impassioned speech to the senate about how fucked the process is and upset at McConnell's direction.

He voted yes literally after saying he was a hard no on the current bill. He voted yes on this while 6 others in his party said No.

There are no words.

I thought the first bill to be offered was going to be the original House bill, and then a repeal-only bill.

What a crap-fest. No one can tell anymore what actions are on purpose, unexpected, strategic, tactical or just plain fails.
