IT - Official Trailer 1

Are they giving Pennywise a back story? I don't remember that from the original movie. Never read the book.

His history in the town is gone into with a decent amount of detail in
Mike
's interviews with the townspeople as an adult, as well as the flashback/dream sequence some of the kids have
to his original arrival on earth/this reality when they're tripping on fumes in the clubhouse
.

They threw in Tim Curry's Pennywise in one of the scenes:

Nice catch.

His backstory is part of the whole Dark Tower mythos and is somewhat complicated, so probably not.

At best they'll give some insight into his relationship with Derry

This movie's only the kid story, right? They're either saving the adult story for a sequel or not doing it at all?

book spoilers

but at minute
2:01 it looks like they might do the spider well. which will be great, because that is when the ending falls apart

Hi Bobby, could you maybe stop reacting dramatically and instead explaing why you keep posting that to everything I post? Because seriously, and I'm not playing around, but I have no idea what was so bad about that part of the book to warrant that kind of reaction.

In the interest of possibly looking stupid by indulging an obvious troll post in good faith (and lord knows I'm stupid quite a bit)

You seem to understand exactly why that sequence would be considered shocking (hence your calling it a shock in one of your posts), so I'm not sure I need to further explain beyond my already explanatory post upthread as to the content of the scene you just called shocking.

However, the repeated responses of "Jesus Christ" with the inflection changed for comedic emphasis are intended to draw attention to the ludicrous nature of suggesting that leaving in a scene of group child sex in a major motion picture would not only be good for the movie overall, but that you're possibly confused as to how such a scene might be considered "so bad" by the majority of readers, as well as its writer.

You're essentially staking out the position that you don't fully understand why the young cast of this film pantomiming sex in a sewer would be considered bad.

To which my response is "Jesus Christ."

Not sure how I feel about Pennywise. He obviously won't live up to Curry but I'm not sure I buy into the directorial approach they're going with his character. I also hope they don't go crazy with the jumpscares.

We finally hear him speak this trailer and I'm sort of mixed.

Pennywise does jump-scares/reality distortions just to mess with people psychologically, but when he actually comes for you physically, it's usually a slow pursuit because he savors the terror.

I might just not remember it being as bad as it might be, but I do not have a photograhic memory and I've not read it for a very long time, and I really don't have any idea why you are being so vaguely dramatic about it.

Thanks.

Stop while you're ahead. The fact that you think it should be left in just for 'shock value' shows how idiotic you are.

Thanks for elaborating, and no I was not trolling. In my head I remember them being adults down in the sewers at that part of the story, so clearly I need to read that part of the book again.

Hey, thanks for the namecalling. Your a real hero. Take care.

Fuck that image alone is enough to make me avoid this trailer and film like the plague, i actually think it looks very impressive for a horror movie, the cinematography and the "small town kids go on a spooky adventure" angle is enough that if there wasnt a clown id be interested. But that being said, i have a terrible phobia of clowns so ill probably skip this one. Part of the fear is my sister making me watch the tim curry original at a young age. Cant wait to see wnat you guys think though.

The novel
jumps back and forth between both timelines' sewer pursuits, with the kid pursuit happening just a little before page-wise, and the characters remembering that scene just before they head back down as adults.

I'm a little disappointed Pennywise seems to be a clown most of the time, even though I expected it.

They aren't going to show off the better CGI transformations in a trailer.

They've already hinted at or shown
the leper, the spider, the victims of the fire at the black spot, and the werewolf.

I really, really liked the depictions of the house on Neibolt Street
(which has at least 2 major setpieces for the kids)
, and the indifference of the townspeople to Henry threatening Ben with a knife (with the subtle balloon appearing in the back of the car).

I wonder if the storm drain scene will be like the book or the tv movie?

Dave Gardener was the first to get there, and although he arrived only forty-five
seconds after the first scream, George Denbrough was already dead. Gardener grabbed
him by the back of the slicker, pulled him into the street...and began to scream himself
as George's body turned over in his hands. The left side of George's slicker was now
bright red. Blood flowed into the stormdrain from the tattered hole where his left arm
had been. A knob of bone, horribly bright, peeked through the torn cloth.

Rated R huh? It might be more like the book then.

I like in the clown scene you notice
one that does not look like pennywise turning his head to watch the kid move past him

I hope those crappy jumpscares are just there for the trailer.

the black guy did the research and they mention a little bit how it was going on for decades, but that's it. (in the original movie)

Never seen the original movie, but now I want to start the book.

Is there a good story here, or did the trailers give away most of it?

Nah trailer isn't giving much away, it's also only an adaptation of about half of the book. The book is fucking awesome. It's very long but it has an atmosphere like no other. I highly recommend the audio book narrated by Steven Weber.

looks like fun. glad it looks different than the original. why would i want something that's already been done well? IT as a good ass movie. if they want to remake it they better do it differently.

I only noticed a couple of those, so that's good to hear.

Listening to that as I type this. He does a good job with all the voices and the book is good so far.

I hope this movie is good enough to warrant the adult sequel.

The sound editor did an amazing job on this trailer. I love the shot of the little girl turning around and Penny is towering over her and grabbing her throat. That's a great shot.

This is an awesome trailer.

I'll probably watch this at some point, but I'm disappointed that they made pennywise really scary looking. It really disrupts the unsettling feeling about the clown.

Loving the look of this movie. As someone who recently finished the audiobook, this version seems to be closer to the book version. He was never described in the book as being freindly looking. They always felt a little off, almost a dread feeling, when they saw him as a clown.

Can't wait!!

the movie looks good, visually at least, I dig that... what I do not, it's the cheap jumpscares, whenever the music goes down you know you'll get your random loud noise and the clown appearing on screen out of nowhere, hopefully the movie is not too heavy on those but the trailer already gave me the impression it will be full of jumpscares.
