House GOP may pass Senate's "skinny repeal" outright. CALL YOUR SENATORS.

I want fucking apologies from the authors of the 200 hot take op-eds shitting on McCain's legacy that were published over the last two days. This was so much more powerful than McCain just not showing up to vote.

McCain could have ended this farce days ago when he voted. I give him credit tonight, but this doesn't undo all the other shit where he just talked big and still voted along the part line

As someone who isn't American and is completely ignorant of American politics, how long until you guys are completely in the clear? When are the repubs going to stop trying to repeal Ocare?

We have the midterm elections in November 2018, which shuffles congress (House and Senate), which is our next opportunity to bring in more progressives in power. But the next presidential election isn't until 2020.

But really, we'll never truly be in the clear. There's always gonna be a subset of people that want to cause damage, and along with a base that will gladly vote for them.

I ran into John McCain as we walked underground ]to the Senate for the final vote. Someday I'll get to tell my grandkids what he said to me.

Wonder what he said to him, but looks like McCain got a spine.. for now.

So was it a positive that McCain voted yes earlier this week to get us to this point? And have it all come to this melting point and then vote no.

Like it was quite scary but was this better it went down this way?

People assumed. Everyone assumed McCain was a yes. Me, many those on GAF, Republicans, Pence, the media. Pretty much everyone but McCain. Funny about this, McCain was always undecided, and seemed not that happy about Ryan's assurances.

Never. It's their ultimate mission. They might move on but they'll always come back to it. All because it has HIS name on it.

And they're the mother fuckers that put his name on it.

If it were only known as the ACA, people would be happy. People like the ACA for the most part.

(I mean, don't get me wrong. It's all bullshit until we have single payer.)

The only reason I can think that he did this is that he legit believed that the GOP was going to debate the bill, figure out a plan in crunch time, and come out on top as a hero. But doing the lunch planning he saw that NO ONE had a plan and decided to vote against at the last second.
I imagine when snake Ryan didnt really commit did it.

To think we have Meadows to thank for this.

Man, McCain finally redeemed in my book. After all these "very concerned" statements, he finally shut the door on this. Disagree with most of his views, but his deciding vote today was monumental.

Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski are also great for being the biggest R voices opposing this.

Unless they all suddenly die and the entire Republican platform does a major shift to the left and Trump and his entire cabinet are kicked out, democrats gain seats in House and Senate, and we get a democrat President...they'll continue to try over and over and over again.

This is fantastic and the first time I've felt a glimmer of hope since the before the election. I can't wait to see the reaction to McCain's defection tomorrow. :)

I don't think McCain is wholeheartedly against republican "reform", just against sending a bill nobody liked to the House. Kind of sad only three Republicans felt that way, because it was such an obviously bad idea.

HHmmm....you've no idea if those 200 hot take op-eds had any effect on his decision.

Gotta stay vigilant. The more they get killed through the media, the more determined they will be to pass their healthcare bill out of pure spite.

They are that petty.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
And here I thought this might have been the worst week of the last 6 months. I can finally sleep for a night.

Fuck Trump and fuck the GOP.

McCain, Murkowski, etc. aren't getting any props for doing their fucking jobs and voting in the interest of the actual people of this country.

No.

He could have ended this all two days ago by just staying in his warm comfy hospital bed.

Oh yeah, its darkly hilarious all the videos with people on the street going "I love the ACA but Obamacare has got to GO!". Single payer is obviously the next step in America's Healthcare evolution, it's only a question of how long will it continue to be obstructed for obstruction's sake.

You want us to hand-wave away all the other warmonger-y shit he's done? Keating Five scandal? Just because of one vote?

What?

Ryan fucked up this morning when he declared Martial Law in the house. If there was legitimate planning of committee etc. there was zero reason to make such a declaration. That was showing his hands of a rushed vote on senate bill
