Senate healthcare repeal bill fails - Collins, Murkowski, and McCain voted no

I'm wearing this McCain avatar for the week because I'm glad he voted to kill this thing. But it's not a matter of "100% or nothing!" McCain is likely only 10% of a Dem on health care. His own press release about why he voted no is still really fucking stupid, and under no circumstances should he get a seat at the table on crafting a bill. Bring in Collins and Murkowski if you want, they'll be on board with Medicaid and PP at least. But McCain most likely voted the way he did (and he confirms as much in his statement) because he didn't trust the House or Mitch.

Mitch's shady lawyering cost him McCain's vote, not really the contents of the bill. I'm cheering my ass off for that, but it's not like McCain is now even close to good on health care.

This is how I look on it for this issue:

1. Do you want to help?
2. What's your idea?
2a. Is it reasonable? If yes, stay at the table
2b. Is it some fuck shit? If yes, to the bushes with you

And of course he doesn't want to try and fix the ACA, just see how he can hurt people even more.

What an ass.

That quote is insane to me. "Let people die, then we can make a better deal!"

Like, bottom line, WE KNOW OBAMACARE has problems, but that doesn't mean they can't be fixed. You don't blow your car up if it has a flat tire, you replace the tire. The reasons Republicans want to go all scorched earth on this is they've been promising repeal for 7 fucking years and they can't stand that president obama was able to create something they can't dismantle. They'd rather tear the whole thing down than fix it because they hate Obama. It's not about the country or their constituents. They're just assholes.

It's been a while since I tuned into Senate procedure, so I'd forgotten they could only consider one reconciliation bill per budget year. McCain really did fuck them over in spectacular fashion. Good for him.

I'm disappointed in Lindsey Graham. Why would he vote yes on such a piece of shit?

In any case, good on McCain, and once again folks who depend on the ACA can breathe a temporary sigh of relief

This user gets it. You get the mindless straight-ticket Republicans, but you also get the people who pay attention to politics and appreciate her ability to go to the middle.

Democrats could also not put up a fight against her if she stays an R because they feel she is more sensible. Essentially strengthening her position in the state regardless of what Republicans think of her.

There was another senator, Mazie Hirono, who has stage four cancer, and she flew from Hawaii to vote against the bill.

Its not hard to assume that Graham new that McCain was going to say no so Graham could vote yes for political reasons.

Good job to Collins, Murkoswky, McCain, and the Senate Dems. I may not agree with everything they do and I certainly won't deify them either, but in this instance they did the right thing saving american lives. I'm considering sending some postcards to thank them.

So I had to see how the_donald was taking the news and they are in full meltdown mode over this. Calls for McConnel, Preibus and Ryan to step down, calling John McCain a 'cancer', and absurd calls for McCain, Murkowski, and Collins to be 'Memed out of existence.'

Bunch of impotent weaklings.

I went to bed last night, fully expecting millions to lose their healthcare, only to wake up and see McCain go into business for himself.

I'm guessing he played the long con here? I know he'd made mentions of how he hates the way the GOP is handling repealing ACA, but it seems like that is a lot of trust to put into your follow GOP brethren to not jump ship and vote for it?

Either way, I'm glad to see McCain give Trump the middle finger he deserves. He has his own reasons for doing it, and I completely disagree with McCain on every level, but he did the right thing here.

One more takeaway is this shows the divide in the GOP in general. No one is on the same page there, once they get past the blind hatred for Obama and anything he did. McConnell just lost a lot of power, and the rest are now going to fight to gobble up the pieces.

A reddit user,zzzzzzzz414, did a good job explaining how royally McCain F'd up the GOP here
Amazing. Say what you will about McCain this is a good example why veteran politicians are so valuable outside new blood. They know how to fuck someone over juuuust right.

Souh so nobody from GAF or elsewhere expected it I think.

In a just world, McConnell would lose his leadership over such a fuck up (from his party's view).

We do not live in a just world, however.

I'm still going to give McCain shit, but good god did he come through at the right time to put the kebash on this skinny repeal. We all know Ryan would have shoved that shit straight through regardless of what he told McCain about going to committee.

Nah. They can only pass one reconciliation bill per topic per budget year, and you can only have one in the process pipes (committees, debate, etc.) at once. Trying and failing doesn't really cost them anything but the time spent voting on it, which they evidently regard as being at an extreme premium.

Lindsey Graham is a NeoCon, no buts about it.

the only think to like about him is his Anti-Russia stance but that in itself was traditionally a Pre-Trump Republican position.

he personally dislikes Trump and that's the only reason why some non-Republicans are liking him, but at the end of the day he is still a NeoCon like Little Marco

How do they think insurance works?

Do they think that when money is taken from their paycheck for insurance, it sits in a little lockbox with their name on it and when they get sick, money is withdrawn from that box?

Fucking simpletons.

Yes. Trump said as much, paraphrasing here but you start at 21 and pay $12 a month and when you retire you get nice insurance. I'm not kidding.

Yall I have one last round of calls I need you to make for a while.

Call your reps if they voted against this bill, or the bill in the house, and tell them good job and thank them. I'm sure they would appreciate it.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Also Trump also said the money($12) is collected annually. Which is even more damning.

Unfortunately one of my Senators is David Perdue, official Senate ballgargler of one Donald J. Trump.

So how quickly will anything from Dems be shot down by the GOP on Healthcare?

It's been a while since I tuned into Senate procedure, so I'd forgotten they could only consider one reconciliation bill per budget year. McCain really did fuck them over in spectacular fashion. Good for him.

That a fact. Holy shit does that royally fuck the GOP over.

Man, I did not expect to see this news today. McCain really did just grab McConnell while he was throwing out the force lightning on the ACA and then toss him down the shaft.

My Senator is Mitch McConnell.

Do I call in and just laugh for a solid 5 minutes?

He stood up and called the bill a piece of shit and a "fraud" and then voted yes.
