Remake of Saint Seiya (Knight of the Zodiac) serie on NETFLIX announced!

I listened to the Spanish intro song and realized it's a dub of the French intro composed by the unforgettable Bernard Minet.
It is our gift to the world, this song.

i had the chance to listen to a small concert of bernard minet at an anime convention, the guy is amazing, he never takes himself serisously, and he sang a lot of classic french opening, even the ones he didn't do himself! All the crowd sang together, that was so cheesy, but so good at the same time!

it was great when he got to City Hunter / Nicky larson! Probably my favourite french opening of an anime :

Not sure if someone else posted the Brazilian opening yet, but man I loved that shit so much. I'm trying to remember when it aired...I think it aired right before DBZ? Or was it super late at night? Damn I can't remember.

It first aired in Manchete at 18:00. I know because I had to watch using an old black and white TV since my mother wanted to watch the globo novela using our main TV.

Bernard Minet isn't singing this one, it's Jean-Paul Césari

Who here wants the Arc System Works treatment done to Saint Seiya? Imagine a game done by these guys with the same love they are pouring into the upcoming Dragon Ball Fighter game.

We only get these "serviceable" generic crap

That's the 2004 version that aired at Band alongside DBZ in the afternoons

This is the real classic opening

Wrong .. this is THE classic opening

That being said the first link is the best version of Pegasus Fantasy because you can't go more pegasus fantasy than melodic hair metal band singer

I think they used the first opening just for a few months no?
I remember watching on 96 and listening to the second one
(and I even had a K7 with Larissa and William song)

It fills me with joy to see so much Saint Seiya love. My family moved to the US from Mexico when I was 8 and no one else seemed to know about it here.

Yeah, at least we'll get the Seiya vs Shiryu fight doubt we'll get Ikki being a dick stealing the Sagittarius cloth. At best it's a re-imagining.

If they stay close to the manga we might see Ikki being kicked by Shaka as if I recall correctly that happened very early in the manga(in the manga they fought twice).

Tatsumi, Ikki is not his fan.

And that's rather tame heh, in the first episode you had somebody losing an ear. However I always noticed that after the battle between Shiryu and Shura the violence went down quite a bit although it remained quite violent.

The battle between Ikki and Shaka and in Hades Shaka vs. Saga, Shura and Camus were some of the best in my opinion.

Thread got me to rewatch SS I jumped straight into the sanctuary arc, man Camus is such a bad ass. Also, that hype moment between Shaka and Aioria fight of 1000 days.

Always thought it made no sense how Athena was a good person yet people like Guilty, Tatsumi, etc. were under her command.

Tatsumi was told about Athena after the guys departed, so I guess it could be that initially he might've been a jerk and then was just overzealous?

Guilty simply wasn't himself.

Anyone seen the Saint Seiya Heaven Chapter Overture film? It was cut a bit weird but I thought it was great. Amazing art and animation and I loved that the story was very different than anything before it. Saint Seiya was finally dropping all its tired tropes and was moving forward with something fresh. Sadly the author apparently hated this film and retconned it out of existence :(

I loved this movie, amazing animation and I really dug how it broke the SS formula, I was really looking forward to a continuation until the creator changed its mind :(

Anyways I'm bummed about this remake being CG but can't say I'm not excited about this revival. I'll definitely watch it.

About the popularity, in Ecuador this anime is really huge next to Dragon Ball and Captain Tsubasa, and I don't think anything comes close to those three around here.

Man, Seiya and Co were finally about to meet Zeus ;( that was the closest I think we ever got to a conclusion for the series. According to the wiki:

Kurumada put his manga Saint Seiya in hiatus after the Hades arc in 1991, and so it remains to this day. He plans to resume it with the publishing of the Heaven Chapter in the near future. Although he is continuing the manga in Saint Seiya Next Dimension, as both prequel and sequel, it is unknown if he will do so as originally planned. As evidenced by his statement.
As Kurumada stated in early interviews, the Heaven Chapter will serve as a bridge to the final chapter of the manga, the chapter of Cronus and Rhea.

And was teased during Hades too as Thanatos said something along the lines of "only the 12 god of Olympus who follow Zeus have a god cloth".

Great news, the old Anime is pretty much unwatchable with those Flash-like fighting animations.

That's part of the charm, it will never have the dbz-esque combat. I could see why it's offputting.. especially when techniques involve sending you to hell and other dimensions.

Don't forget the most ineffective move ever, using your fist on the opponent's chest(seriously everybody who did that ended up being screwed afterwards).

Er no.

A 2D fighting game doesn't really fit Saint Seiya at all to be honest, I'd rather have some sort of RPG with versus mode.

Also that last Saint Seiya game had decent combat. Bad story. But it was fun enough online and it didn't look bad or anything. Lots of fan service with the attacks. A step up from the previous games, gameplay wise.

Saint Seiya deserves more than just decent (and if I think that decent is kind of a stretch). It should have a game that interests even people who aren't already fans.

It's 12 30min episodes covering Galaxy Wars to Silver Saints. That's what, 25 manga chapters?
It looks like you're using the numbering from the volumes, and that's not such a good idea. One of those volume chapters generally is several weekly chapters merged together.
Anyway, that would be 6+ volumes, and that's a lot of ground to cover for just 12 episodes.

Lol yeah it's quite something. A product of its time I guess. I'm only on episode 18 but it's basically just spamming special attacks. There are some moments of brutality though and the poses are cool as shit. Why can't I find a good gif of POLVO DE DIAMANTÉ?

Takes me back, back elementary school we would do the poses I could do Diamond Dust perfectly, I always found hillarious the part where he throws fists upwards.

Aphrodite is one of the coolest though.

Seiya meteor fist is still hype. All my friends either loved ikki or shiryu growing up.

To be fair Ikki's my favourite too, even if he's a little cheap in some aspects. Shiryu is probably my least favourite, everything around him was always overly dramatic more than with anybody else.

Somebody on the background would do it usually, for real.

That sound sort of bothered me for some reason, I always wondered if swans truely sounded like that.

Lol you guys went all out.

I loved Hyoga as a kid and even now as I'm practically watching it for the first time (I've forgotten everything and never watched it in order) he's still my favorite. I remember hating Shun though. I remember him always bleeding or getting his ass kicked so I thought he was such a wuss. The pink armor didn't help as a kid.

Oh my god, it's those songs! Pegasus Fantasy had simply overwritten those old songs from my mind to the point that I had forgotten they existed and just thought it was always there from the start.

It did occur to me it was weird that they would have gotten Edu Falaschi to sing it in 94, but I would simply brush that off.
