They're Co-Producing these shows, Netflix wants to make new original content that will stay on their service forever.
"Faithful" adaptation of the original manga. 10 episodes, 25 minutes per episode. No censorship, no restrictions, no need to worry about TV guidelines. When they first announced it they said it will finally animate the original ending which has never been adapted before (loooooool). Yuasa is working with the same composer he did on Ping Pong, another great manga adaptation. It's going to rock.

Yes, but I imagine there's still a risk that maybe with some series they'll want to stream them in Japan first and not necessarily simultaneously everywhere else.

Otherwise, aside of their 'release all at once months after the fact' model being kinda annoying, it's interesting to see Netflix put some major money into reviving classic IPs. Wonder if they were inspired by what was done with Lupin.

Yeah I think a little western influence in some animation not intended primarily for kids would be a good thing. I'll keep an eye out to see if any of these turn out good, I don't normally watch anime but I like animation and genre stuff so hopefully they are good.

wow, i am actually interested in some of these. nflx is PUMPing out original content. happy for them. i'm definitely expecting a price bump in the next 2-4 years. which i'll gladly pay.
The studio that does Sidonia/Ajin/Blame is currently doing a Godzilla movie trilogy. The first one is in the OP. They will probably be busy for a while.

Why is Netflix creating series from bizarre source material/from scratch, when they could be adapting things like Berserk, Vinland Saga, Inuyashiki, or any of Urusawa's works
Berserk is cursed.
Inuyashiki is already getting an anime next season.
Actually Netflix already has JoJo for Japanese Netflix, that could change in the future worldwide.

Really great studio line up for those releases surprised to see Cannon Busters on it. This was a Kickstarter pilot by Le Sean Thomas he never released it outside of the backers.
Considering in the UK they've now got Champloo and Bebop I'd definitely agree. Really enjoyed their originals too - Ajin and Blame were brilliant.
