So many of you are playing Poker Night. Are TF2 items really that important that you'd buy a game you'll probably never play again after you unlock all the TF2 stuff? ARE THEY?
I preordered Poker Night before the TF2 items were even announced. :3

Tycho is fucking hilarious.

I bought poker night after it came out on purpose because I didn't want the items I just wanted the game and at least that way I would only get four. I'll probably give the rest away.

Tycho and Strong Bad have some great exchanges. I still haven't gotten any items though.
I got the badge/gun (already had the gun, but hey)!

Aside from the badge, the only other thing I want is the watch. Woo!

Uh oh n0b. You are going to have more things in your inventory because these items are untradable. Maybe you can gift them though.

He can just delete them.

And I am having problems getting the items. Only got the Iron Curtain, but Max just put his items up again, and I tend to knock him out most of the time he doesn't have his items up.

Lucky enough to beat the Heavy this morning with a full house against his flush. Whew!

All I need now are the shutter shades.

I already have all the items.

The Heavy always seems to get knocked out first in my games. He is a very bad player.

You guys are all apparently way better at poker than me.

I suck. U:

Also, for me, Strong Bad likes to go All In All The Time... 90% of the time he has NOTHING.

Problem with me is, Strong Bad goes all in, someone else does and he does have something. :(

They all seem to bluff a lot excluding Tycho. He seems to only play when he has good hands and he always announces that he has an awesome hand.

They really need an option to let the people that go out sit at the table and continue to converse.

When you're down to one other person and all the witty banter stops the game feels like it's dragging.

Especially because once you get to that point, there's just a lot of checking and folding and checking and checking and folding. At least, for me, because I am bad at poker, and don't want to excessively bluff when I'm down to the last man. U:

Maybe I just hate Texas Hold 'Em in general. Too much folding. I've never really played any other kind of poker more than a couple rounds when I was in elementary school.

Also: I like how we are talking about this in the TF2 thread. We're the best. X:

I rarely ever fold when the table is full and I never fold before the first flop.

I'm curious:

In my very first game on the very first hand I got a pair of aces and the Heavy immediately went all-in and lost. I assumed that was just a scripted event, but I want to double check with you people to see if the same happened to you.

Definitely did not have that happen to me.

I have to fold or I'll lose 90% of the time. How do you not lose when you have worse cards? Impossible!

By bluffing. Usually when the table is full the other people will fold if you bet high on the second or third flop.

This might work on normal when the game is extremely generous with cards, but try that on hard and you'll lose real quick.

Cards shouldn't matter; the betting is what makes the difference. Unless someone's going all-in before the first flop or otherwise raising an obscene amount (relative to your cash) it doesn't really make sense not to stay in until at least one flop.

I haven't really paid close attention to the way the game deals with decks, but as far as I can tell they use a new deck for each hand so you can't really pay attention to which cards were recently thrown.

I guess, but the one game I played on hard I was trying to roll pretty much every hand like I do on normal, but I kept getting shit flops and the other characters were more likely to actually have a good hand and stay in. Betting big didn't make much of a difference.

Actually, similar thing happened to me. On my first hand of my very first game, Strong Bad went all in with nothing. I had a pair, don't remember what it was. Knocked him out right there. If only he put up his glasses up in the pot.

SHADDAP! I actually like poker and have it on my phone when I'm bored.

Really, though, this type of poker is more suited to playing with live people you can read and bluff. The AI doesn't really know about bluffing afaik, and it's difficult for you to read their bluff as well.

Won my first tournament on my first try, now just doing whatever to get the items. It's not particularly hard, though I suspect that fucking Max is a fucking dirty cheater!

Also don't get the love for Tycho. His voice actor/Tycho sucks. Fuck his monotonous shit and his stupid stories.

Kind of true for poker period, but especially when it's down to heads up play, either go big, or fold. If you check, and then they check, you should pretty much make a biggish bet no matter what card falls next. They don't seem to do anything tricky like check-raises or slow playing, at least on normal difficulty.

Yeah, which is why I hate poker so much. I'll never understand why people like it. It's so goddamn boring.

That's because you hate good things.

Go on, tell everyone about the time you passed up a trip to Disney World in exchange for getting buried alive.

If you just want the items, here's the quickest way. It's still time-consuming, but what Demo wouldn't want to sport those sweet shutters? (They should give you an in-game point if you aren't facing toward your stickies when you set them off.)
  1. Start a new game.
  2. Watch for someone to offer up a rare item. If everyone drops their cash before the Heavy, hit your Escape key, then the right arrow at the bottom of the screen twice, and Start New Game. It'll go straight back to people dropping their cash or items again.
  3. When the round starts, go All In. Or alternatively, go one round on a Call, and see if your target folds or not. (This is useful for whichever one is your cautious one. For me, it was Tycho.) Then go All In. You'll probably scare off several of the players, hopefully not your target.
  4. If you win and don't get your item, repeat. If you lose, restart. You don't have to win the tournament, just bust the player with the item.

Yeah, it's a lame way of doing it, but after earning two of them legitimately, I just wanted to get the rest of the items so I didn't have to stress, or felt like I was wasting my time on cash-only tournaments. Now I can enjoy the game for what it is, instead of the unlocks.

You know, I was kind of annoyed that my brother was using my Steam account to play TF2 every night, because I couldn't log in. But now I'll getting like three drops a night :lol
Crafting material!

Also, if they put Mann Co. items on sale this holiday maybe I'll finally buy some damn keys.

Normal

Wasn't just me that dislikes Tycho. Twig hates, Godhand. Therefore, Twig = wrong.

Also just because you aren't the only one doesn't make you right. The world is full of idiots and you are one!

Goddamnit that is the second time in a row I've double posted. Oh well.

I found that takes even longer. I just ended up playing with the goal in mind to just beast the player with the item, so my main goal was to always have just a bit more money them then. If I got good cards, I would play the whole way though, but most of the time, if they flopped, I would too. When they started raising, I would do so too, which ether got them to go all end, or they would fold helping me bleed them dry.
