this game and Horizon has taken its toll on my share button. I didn't think I would appreciate a photo mode so much in games but it's really adding to the experience for me this gen.

New ship? Looked fabulous, but had knob all cargo space :)

Not sure if the last screenie would be considered a spoiler since it was part of the new mission so better be safe, but wow, looked great when you finally get to activate it.

So when I was trying to figure out the Free Mode on the galaxy map I hit the Search for Nearby Players button, and it found someone 110 ly away. The system I was in is out in the middle of nowhere, so I was surprised. Decided to jump over and flew to the closest planet, a radioactive ocean world. I'm flying around, minding my own business and all of the sudden I get a red triangle on my HUD. Next thing I know some yahoo is firing at me.

Let me repeat: I got attacked by another ship while flying in the atmosphere. Now this has never happened to me before, and I've never heard of this happening. Is this new to 1.3? Anyway, I defeated him (the Infra-Knife Accelerator I installed recently cut through their ship like butter) and landed, only to find it was a hostile Sentinel planet. No thanks.

Now I'm on a weird "supercritical" moon which is almost completely flat except for snaking ravines, smouldering vents, and the occasional stone column. Drop into an outpost and find an A-class multi-tool that's one slot better. And it has a terrain manipulator. Great. Except I can't seem to break down my current tool's upgrades on the compare screen. Am I misremembering and you have to break them down outside of the trade window?

Also, what's the fastest way to find if someone has a base in a system?

I rebuilt my base, which was underground after the update, hired new specialists and started redoing the quests. I'm stuck on technician and farmer quests; I've hit points in both where they won't acknowledge that I've done what they asked. Technician wants me to build a Colossus and Farmer wants me to grow a gravitino orb. Done and done, but they won't let me progress. :( Also sucks that having to relocate my base made me lose a lot of materials from my old farm. I get it that it is a huge update but there are so many bugs, for every time I notice a cool new feature I'm running into some other bug.

It's a shame the features you see on a planet from far away have no connection to what's actually on the planet. Looks great, but seems like it's just a generic texture until you get pretty close and the actual procedural generation kicks in and everything changes. Kiiiind of shatters the illusion a bit. Would be so cool if those lines and stuff you see from afar were actual valleys on the planet, etc, so you could pick a landing site from way out in space and actually see it grow larger and more detailed all the way down. But I realize what a technical challenge that would be.
It's a big improvement over what it was before, now there seem to be several levels of generic texture as you get closer and closer, one planet, I counted like 10 or so stages texture detail before it got to the actual surface generation. It was this green planet with what looked like long elaborate canyons, then as I got closer, the canyons would get smaller and more detailed. Used to be it was a single texture, and when you got close enough, it'd switch to the still building checkerboard ground generation. Still not ideal, but I'll take this over how it was.

They added atmosphere dogfights. I had a clan of pirates attack as I was entering the atmosphere, but that was after the scan warnings. I discovered they'll still jump in even if you're in the atmosphere. Used to be able to ditch them. (or they'd jump in and fly down past you and just circle around without attacking) As for single ships, for me it's always been after a bounty warning, and I'd attack them. I've never had a single rando attack me. Neat.

I've been followed down from space before after being scanned, but I wasn't scanned this time. I had been in the atmosphere for a good couple of minutes before someone targeted me. Unless Sentinels now have patrol ships on planets -- and if it was, I think I would have seen a Sentinel alert message -- it seems pirates can ambush you in the atmosphere without even scanning. Unless it was a glitch.

I hope it's not a glitch. Sounds cool. My actual planet side dogfights have been fun. And if it was a sentinel, I don't think it'd have stopped at one ship. If I accidentally hit a friendly in my ship, I just quit, those sentinel ships are no joke.

I haven't tried this myself but Reddit said that the mission resets if you delete the weapons terminal guy and then place him again.

That particular quest bugged out on me. I left the system, got a Wanted Lvl 5 but no Sentinels showed up and my audio glitched. Since the mission simply states to defeat 3 Sentinel ships I provoked the Sentinels on the ground and left the planet when they were pissed off. However, compared to the quest, they spawned at lvl1 which is infinitely easier to deal with.

After some trying to replace the tough sentinel ships with easier ones like you did, and after that failed figuring out how to get hold of nickel, and then finding out that the ship upgrades do very little to make combat easier, I ended up deleting.

It's a shame that I'll have to go through all the mission steps again later on, but at least the mission is gone from the log now.

Maybe a new feature if the Conflict level is high enough? First I've heard about it, too, but there's not much room for misinterpretation there. Any other explanation would be pretty obvious so it must have been random event or a bug -- hopefully, as you said, the former. Sounds kinda cool.

Atmosphere dogfights are a feature, it's in the patch trailer.

It's a new feature but does anyone know which colour arrows mean what?

Red arrow is an enemy ship engaged with you, white is a neutral/ally ship, but recently there was a blue arrow which I think is either sentinel ship or someone I hit with friendly fire by mistake?

I've been happily flying around my first solar system building up my base. But now I need to escape and get a warp core to power my hyperdrive. I can't find any antimatter. none for sale.

Apparently the game is supposed to point me to an alien who will give me some antimatter as part of that quest, but selecting the quest won't display it. Erk.

One neat thing, is when I was being attacked by a group of pirates, a bunch of friendlies came to my assistance! I guess they felt they owed me for helping out when their freighter was being attacked.

Sooo many dinos on this planet, holy shit. Just walking down this valley there were dinos fucking everywhere. Never seen so many in one place before.

It sounds tricky to implement. It would have to first load a low-level version of the entire visible planet (and nearby moons) and an increasingly higher-level version as you pulse into orbit. The game already has trouble loading planets quick enough in orbit to avoid pop-in and that awful pixellation effect.

But I'm sure it's something that Sean and Co. would love to implement it in the future, so fingers crossed.

This would really only have an effect on the warp (loading) times, I think. That's when the planets get generated in their least detailed form (actually, why the hell does that even take as long as it does? It's just creating a few balls with generic textures slapped on). So when that's going on they would need to actually generate a super-low-detail version of each planet (similar to how they already generate them in higher and higher detail as you approach, but this time with far less detail but instead of the entire planet) into a texture which would be used instead of the generic ones. This texture would then get replaced by actual generated geometry as you start approaching, as already happens. But now it would actually get replaced by matching features. I don't think this would technically be all that difficult for them to implement, it's basically just doing what they're already doing but at a larger and less detailed scale. But perhaps it would make the warping/loading insufferably long, or maybe those planet textures would be too large (they'd have to be pretty detailed to hold up visually).

Anyone else often see what looks like a single black pixel at the center of the sun/star when looking straight at it? I don't believe I've seen this before I got an HDR-capable TV.

No, but I do see a faintly visible ring of black pixels in the middle of it. I don't have HDR on though.

I dont' think I've seen any other ship with a Rocket Launcher module or a vendor that sells it

Did I really trade away my unicorn of ships?

It's pretty interesting to see how much this update (and the discount) has affected the sales of the game:

the last time the game got discounted it didn't really earn that many new customers, but this time it's a pretty major boost.

Oh my god I have such a good experience again!

On my AMD I had problems with v-sync and game profile wasn't working. Enabled it in the global profile and it is absolutely wonderful.

No tearing, smooth game play.

I just bought a Rocket Launcher blueprint from a vendor in a Gek system space station. I can't say how rare it is because that's the first blueprint vendor I've talked to in 1.3. Gotta get my ship beefed up for that Sentinels base mission...

That's great! I felt bad for all the posts about AMD users being unable to run it properly. By the way, for players with a 970 like myself (and maybe others), for some reason I got the game to run practically flawlessly for me in borderless mode while also enabling vsync and triple buffering in the GPU control panel. I feel like that shouldn't be having any effect, but strangely enough it's been a really smooth experience once I did that--better than fullscreen and vsync+triple buffering.

I got a small black ring of black pixels after the patch but one of the space mods (can't remember which one) fixed it. Someone should report it as a bug.

Exactly. The framerate is dependent on scenery and fluctuates between 30-60fps but eh. It is smooth now on my old ass 7970 GHz.

Love it and can't wait to dive back in after work.

I think the biggest thing for HG is how positive the reception to this latest update has been, and the word of mouth that's starting to get out there and making people give it a try. Yes, there's always going to be people who will never give it a try based on what's happened previously, but they're definitely getting to a place where the game is as they wanted it to be, people are enjoying the game and they're starting to salvage their reputation somewhat.

It seems that my decision to start again was a smart one. Started in an cold planet with lots of resources near my ship. In the first outpost I got a new multitool from an Alien and this thing has 20 slots! I also found a new ship but I don't think it could be worth to fix. It was a class c fighter with more slots than the starter ship but mostly of them were broken. Is there any way to fix the ship before having to transfer your items to it? What will happen to my starter ship if I decide to fix the other one?

So lets do a poll. What do you want the focus of the next major patch to be?

1) More storyline content
2) Flora and Fauna
3) Environmental effects (like Water, Clouds and Weather)
4) Combat (like a faction war and battling NPCs on planets)
5) Expanding general gameplay mechanics
7) Multiplayer
6) Bug Fixing and Polishing the existing game

you forgot Multiplayer, which will probably be it since it's related with the lore.

Pretty sure it's a monolith it points you towards. It usually triggers when you leave the current planet you're on. Should be an exclamation marker. It's a blueprint it gives I think.

Nope, you gotta destroy and remake. Mainly because of the combo bonus system, it makes you need to be careful about placement. But it's also very annoying.

What is this combo system? Sorry I am quite new

2. More specifically I want creatures to behave in a more interesting manner. I would love to see an ecosystem at work, animals doing more than wandering around in a circle, and more than two behavior types. It's fun to see the creations but there's no reason to continue watching them.

Is there any way to hide the mission log on the HUD?

Its massive and doesnt seem to ever go away, it covers too much of my screen and I dont need it reminding me where to go all the time. I just want to explore a bit now...

Placing related tech upgrades touching one another in your inventory amplifies their effect.
Hey @Hawkian, you said that I should try deselecting the current system in the galaxy map Free Mode in order to freely cruise around like the old free mode. Except I can't figure out how to deselect the current system. Like I can move around, but the camera is constantly fixed on that system.

edit: nevermind, it's the Circle button (on PS4). Would be nice if it actually showed all the control options...
When nothing is selected, Circle will also reselect your current system.

Beneficial bug found! :) (apologies if its well known already or mentioned in new patch notes)

I had it happen last night but I wasn't paying much attention and managed to recreate now. If you pick up a rep mission of the "Valuable Items sought" type, when you acquire said valuable item it progresses the quest to the next step "Deliver to depot". If you then store said item in your base (in this example I had missions calling for Gamma Root/Lubricant), you can still head to the depot to hand in. You will see that the option to hand in item is greyed out, yet when you back out of the menu the quest will still update as if you had handed it over and completed. Just saved a pretty penny on some stuff there, and may be beneficial once rep gets higher if the missions call for more expensive stuff.

I captured the video so if necessary I can quickly chop it down if I've made a poor job explaining.

Also apologies in advance for being a grass but felt compelled to file it as a bug report too, though I doubt I'm the only/first one to notice.

Re-ordered it for my preference, was never bothered about any multiplayer other than a "Souls style message" community based thing (not that I would bemoan its inclusion), otherwise pretty much the top 4 in any order :)

I would love to see both the animals and the sentinels behaver better. Yesterday I was fighting against a four legged sentinel near my ship, I took cover behind the ship to reload and the sentinel just started to run around in circles without attacking me. At least I didn't got killed. lol

Oh yeah know that Hawkian, sorry I meant that from a "what I would like to see added/improved" POV multiplayer is pretty low on the list as I never particularly wished for anything other than what we have now. Though as I say I wouldnt cry if they did add it.
