You are the man, thank you for posting this.
It's a big improvement over what it was before, now there seem to be several levels of generic texture as you get closer and closer, one planet, I counted like 10 or so stages texture detail before it got to the actual surface generation. It was this green planet with what looked like long elaborate canyons, then as I got closer, the canyons would get smaller and more detailed. Used to be it was a single texture, and when you got close enough, it'd switch to the still building checkerboard ground generation. Still not ideal, but I'll take this over how it was. It's a shame the features you see on a planet from far away have no connection to what's actually on the planet. Looks great, but seems like it's just a generic texture until you get pretty close and the actual procedural generation kicks in and everything changes. Kiiiind of shatters the illusion a bit. Would be so cool if those lines and stuff you see from afar were actual valleys on the planet, etc, so you could pick a landing site from way out in space and actually see it grow larger and more detailed all the way down. But I realize what a technical challenge that would be.
They added atmosphere dogfights. I had a clan of pirates attack as I was entering the atmosphere, but that was after the scan warnings. I discovered they'll still jump in even if you're in the atmosphere. Used to be able to ditch them. (or they'd jump in and fly down past you and just circle around without attacking) As for single ships, for me it's always been after a bounty warning, and I'd attack them. I've never had a single rando attack me. Neat.So when I was trying to figure out the Free Mode on the galaxy map I hit the Search for Nearby Players button, and it found someone 110 ly away. The system I was in is out in the middle of nowhere, so I was surprised. Decided to jump over and flew to the closest planet, a radioactive ocean world. I'm flying around, minding my own business and all of the sudden I get a red triangle on my HUD. Next thing I know some yahoo is firing at me.
Let me repeat: I got attacked by another ship while flying in the atmosphere. Now this has never happened to me before, and I've never heard of this happening. Is this new to 1.3? Anyway, I defeated him (the Infra-Knife Accelerator I installed recently cut through their ship like butter) and landed, only to find it was a hostile Sentinel planet. No thanks.

I've been followed down from space before after being scanned, but I wasn't scanned this time. I had been in the atmosphere for a good couple of minutes before someone targeted me. Unless Sentinels now have patrol ships on planets -- and if it was, I think I would have seen a Sentinel alert message -- it seems pirates can ambush you in the atmosphere without even scanning. Unless it was a glitch.
I haven't tried this myself but Reddit said that the mission resets if you delete the weapons terminal guy and then place him again.
That particular quest bugged out on me. I left the system, got a Wanted Lvl 5 but no Sentinels showed up and my audio glitched. Since the mission simply states to defeat 3 Sentinel ships I provoked the Sentinels on the ground and left the planet when they were pissed off. However, compared to the quest, they spawned at lvl1 which is infinitely easier to deal with.
Maybe a new feature if the Conflict level is high enough? First I've heard about it, too, but there's not much room for misinterpretation there. Any other explanation would be pretty obvious so it must have been random event or a bug -- hopefully, as you said, the former. Sounds kinda cool.I hope it's not a glitch. Sounds cool. My actual planet side dogfights have been fun. And if it was a sentinel, I don't think it'd have stopped at one ship. If I accidentally hit a friendly in my ship, I just quit, those sentinel ships are no joke.
Atmosphere dogfights are a feature, it's in the patch trailer.
Here's ones from my home planet:
Thats awesome and yes... you can change it as much as you want as long as you have the resources and the planet has a home base.
It sounds tricky to implement. It would have to first load a low-level version of the entire visible planet (and nearby moons) and an increasingly higher-level version as you pulse into orbit. The game already has trouble loading planets quick enough in orbit to avoid pop-in and that awful pixellation effect.
But I'm sure it's something that Sean and Co. would love to implement it in the future, so fingers crossed.
Anyone else often see what looks like a single black pixel at the center of the sun/star when looking straight at it? I don't believe I've seen this before I got an HDR-capable TV.
No, but I do see a faintly visible ring of black pixels in the middle of it. I don't have HDR on though.
I dont' think I've seen any other ship with a Rocket Launcher module or a vendor that sells it
Did I really trade away my unicorn of ships?
How in the name of Zeus's butthole do you upgrade your Atlas pass? V1 to V2 to V3.
Oh my god I have such a good experience again!
On my AMD I had problems with v-sync and game profile wasn't working. Enabled it in the global profile and it is absolutely wonderful.
No tearing, smooth game play.

That's great! I felt bad for all the posts about AMD users being unable to run it properly. By the way, for players with a 970 like myself (and maybe others), for some reason I got the game to run practically flawlessly for me in borderless mode while also enabling vsync and triple buffering in the GPU control panel. I feel like that shouldn't be having any effect, but strangely enough it's been a really smooth experience once I did that--better than fullscreen and vsync+triple buffering.

I think the biggest thing for HG is how positive the reception to this latest update has been, and the word of mouth that's starting to get out there and making people give it a try. Yes, there's always going to be people who will never give it a try based on what's happened previously, but they're definitely getting to a place where the game is as they wanted it to be, people are enjoying the game and they're starting to salvage their reputation somewhat. It's pretty interesting to see how much this update (and the discount) has affected the sales of the game:
the last time the game got discounted it didn't really earn that many new customers, but this time it's a pretty major boost.
So lets do a poll. What do you want the focus of the next major patch to be?
1) More storyline content
2) Flora and Fauna
3) Environmental effects (like Water, Clouds and Weather)
4) Combat (like a faction war and battling NPCs on planets)
5) Expanding general gameplay mechanics
6) Bug Fixing and Polishing the existing game
Nope, you gotta destroy and remake. Mainly because of the combo bonus system, it makes you need to be careful about placement. But it's also very annoying. Can you move the jetpack module and/or other similar modules?
I've been happily flying around my first solar system building up my base. But now I need to escape and get a warp core to power my hyperdrive. I can't find any antimatter. none for sale.
Apparently the game is supposed to point me to an alien who will give me some antimatter as part of that quest, but selecting the quest won't display it. Erk.
They are rewards at the space anomaly but it takes a lot of time to pass the milestone requirements.
you forgot Multiplayer, which will probably be it since it's related with the lore.

Pretty sure it's a monolith it points you towards. It usually triggers when you leave the current planet you're on. Should be an exclamation marker. It's a blueprint it gives I think.

Placing related tech upgrades touching one another in your inventory amplifies their effect. What is this combo system? Sorry I am quite new
When nothing is selected, Circle will also reselect your current system.Hey @Hawkian, you said that I should try deselecting the current system in the galaxy map Free Mode in order to freely cruise around like the old free mode. Except I can't figure out how to deselect the current system. Like I can move around, but the camera is constantly fixed on that system.
edit: nevermind, it's the Circle button (on PS4). Would be nice if it actually showed all the control options...

https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Communications_Station eh?Re-ordered it for my preference, was never bothered about any multiplayer other than a "Souls style message" community based thing (not that I would bemoan its inclusion), otherwise pretty much the top 4 in any order
