New previews of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

we are around 27 hours until review. Is it wiser to just wait for reviews at this point before pre-ordering? (That will result in a 2-3 days of shipment delay for me)

From reports and impressions I really can't see this game reviewing badly. Maybe a few nitpicks here and there but I suspect we're easily looking at an 8+/10 game.

Do new releases on the eShop go live at midnight or do Nintendo take their time like Sony?
Not sure how Switch handles it but on 3DS and Wii U first party games were always at midnight and sometimes third party games weren't until 12pm EST the day of release.

If this is a Ubisoft published game, it might not be up at midnight.

Generally it seems like it is around noon EST the day of release.

I'm actually waiting for confirmation on game length rather than score.
Review scores are not something reliable now since they will just score it 8/10 across the board praising the game with a few dumb flaws.
I heard about the challenge stuff, the difficulty of combat and exploration. Now what's left is game length. Just wondering if this is a game that I can put 50 hours in.

Since my other option will be Yakuza Kiwami, which I already knew how great and content packed it is at half the price.

50 hours? That seems excessive for a game like this. Probably closer to 30 or so if you want to master it

The strategy element of the game is legit. Regular difficulty ramps up nicely towards the end of world one and from then on you can't just carelessly attack and still get gold trophies. Had a few courses where I've lost a couple of characters and had to restart.

I'm mid way through world 2 and there's a good mix of enemy types and really enjoying how different I've been able to make my team. Peach rabbid focus on healing, Mario manoeuvrability, Luigi buffing/sniping, and Luigi rabbid debuff/vampire dps.

Why are people alwayss so obsessed with gamelength. Is that really the most important aspect that make u decide to buy or not?
I have found that the length of a game is irrelevant if I don't enjoy it. It's one of the reasons I don't finish many games. The games are too long and the systems the games are built around can't support it so they get boring to me.

I will say however that I can afford any game I want whenever I want it so that definitely plays into the mindset above. When I was a kid I played the hell out of whatever game I had so length did matter.

People that have it, how would you rate the difficulty/challenge behind it so far relative to other Mario titles?

It's hard to compare because the games are completely different genres.

The platform Mario games are made in a way that are fun, easy ( okay, maybe not the NES ones ) and so that anyone can finish them. It's not until you start doing the post game stages where the difficulty cranks up a notch.

With this game it does a good job of easing you in but the difficulty quickly starts to ramp up early on. The main game will offer a decent challenge to most players and that's without even attempting to finish the challenges or trying to get a perfect ranking.

As long as you don't mind passing with just a good rating instead of getting perfect all the time, then the game hasn't been THAT difficult so far (two worlds in), that's not to say it's a piece of cake, but I think anyone with some gaming skill, which I'm sure we all have, shouldn't find themselves in too much trouble. You still have to think about what you're doing though, you can't be clumsy. The game does an excellent job of easing you into new systems and enemy types so it never seems too overwhelming or complicated.

If you want to make the game more difficult for yourself, then you can replay each battle to try get a perfect rating, and each world has challenge missions once you've completed that world, I imagine they'll be difficult later on.

I haven't started world 3 yet so for all I know the difficulty could really ramp up yet.

Finally put it down for a little bit. That second world boss is no goddamn joke and I need a break from hitting my head against the wall.

In terms of length, I've played for around 5 hours and am halfway through world 2, with there apparently being
4 worlds
in total. At this point it's looking like a 15 hour game, not taking into consideration retrying battles, finding collectibles, replaying stages etc.

How are people already playing the game?
i thought it will be released only in 2 days
Europe stores shipped early. I know stores in LA that break street date got it on Wednesday. I would have gone to get it but I am saving this game for my trip to Spain in a few weeks.

It's a bank holiday in the UK tomorrow so most online places shipped it on Friday so it would still arrive for release day. This meant most UK people got it yesterday, however. Happened for all Tuesday releases like Everybody's Golf and Yakuza too.

My friend's "mom and pop" store got it yesterday. Gonna check to see if they still have stock today. I was going to get from BB with my GCU discount on Tuesday, but I'll be traveling for work so might as well get it early...

Wow. The 3rd boss fight....absolutely brilliant!

Its the Phantom from the trailer they released earlier this month. The opera in the trailer is only the second verse. They kept the far better first verse a secret and it's brilliant.

Methinks I'll head back to the second world and doing a bit of mopping of the chests and challenges, before moving on to the 4th world.

This is not fair I want to keep playing, why do I have to have plans all day with the family 😭

Just got Amazon to overnight the game to me, I thought all pre-ordered games were supposed to be delivered on delivery day? My order said it would be shipped on release day and be to my house on the 31st. Not good enough, I complained and now will at least get it on the 30th.

I ended up cancelling my Amazon pre-order b/c of that. I'll just pick it up at a local store on the day of. It's looking like the game will be worth the full price.

Every game has its street date broken somewhere.
I don't actually remember the last time I had to wait for the actual release day, unless it's digital, lol

Also Rabbid Mario is a monster

So do you ever get the ability to bring more than 3 characters into a battle? Seems pretty limiting.

It's not that important since you can swap anytime except in actual battle. It's even a good idea if one of your character hp is extra low
I'm more annoyed by the fact that I can't remove Mario, ever.

Honestly? I think it will be very difficult for a five year old. I haven't activated easy mode in the game but the standard settings will probably be far too much for a young kid to handle. Despite its colourful looks, the game requires a lot of strategy at times.

In my honest opinion a five year old would struggle with this, and probably just the genre in general. Success or failure depends on the positioning of your characters relative to both each other (healing, team jumps, boosting each other's power), relative to your enemies (Do you have a clear shot? Are you in cover?) and relative to your environment (being above enemies boosts your attack power. Could you use those warp pipes to your advantage? Could your enemies use those warp pipes to THEIR advantage?)

There's just a lot going on and that's without getting into power cooldowns and skill trees and movement grids. I'd be interested to hear how much easier easy mode makes the game but I suspect that, at its core, there's just too many levels of mechanics for a kid at that age to deal with regardless of how many HP the enemy knock off on easy mode.

That sucks, I'll try playing co-op and just have him watch me play the single player stuff.

Done world 2 100%, was a complete breeze.

My party setup:
Mario/Luigi with bounce weapons.
Rabbit peach with push weapon.

Mario has a M-power focused build, Luigi has a Steely Stare build and R.Peach a Mega Heal build.

The combo
M-Power -> Steely stare -> Use weapons to proc steely stare,
is a tad strong.....

Haha! That's my exact set up, as well.

I'm not too keen on the honey/sticky weapons. With the push and bounce powers there's always a chance of enemies falling off the edge for extra damage.
