I'm still trying to understand how gaming culture became like this. It's worse than any other media industry regards to this.

It just hasn't matured well. 10 years ago PewDiePie's humour would've been seen as provocative and edgy. I knew a guy in university back then who used racist terms unexpectedly for humour and everyone just laughed and brushed it off as edgy. Gaming culture has always lapped that shitty edgy internet humour up and cut to now where these types of people are older and now making money out of it thanks to youtube/twitch/sponsorships/politics or whatever. They know if they go "Clean" they'll lose their fanbase and the money train comes to a halt.

Jim Sterling put up a good one today. Though, as a Youtuber myself, I'm not against the "Muh YT Money" stance. PDP single-handedly caused the Adpocolypse and hurt a lot of great, legit channels

To me it just feels like the more these controversies happen the more people feel like every sizable YouTuber has to make a statement about it or they're somehow condoning it. It feels like people are always looking for a new set of creators to condemn.

I said earlier. For the longest time youtube needed to have some sort of legit filtering to see who is uploading what videos and what the content is. For the longest time it was like the wild west.

Then they had content ID which caused more issues than it was worth. Then you had the PDP antisemetic stuff. Then that whole shit with Daddyof5.

Advertisers saw this shit and pretty much told youtube/google to get their shit together. And now you see them trying to scramble and try to police and monitor their shit and it's fucking over others.

In reality. PDP's channel should have been banned after that shit. Hell it should be now. It's not his first time doing some shit like this and he's really hindering the platform for other people.

The real problem with these influential Youtubers is that they are influential, and in PDP's case he is not remotely close to someone who should be influencing kids. The world is a confusing place for preteens and teenagers, and they are looking for context and answers to serious issues. They aren't sure exactly how to feel about certain issues. But when PDP or any of these youtubers make light of issues like white supremacy and racism, the kids compartmentalize the issues in a way that allows them to think "it's ok to use racist slurs in my normal language, people who get upset are the problem, not the use of the word." That influence leads to adopting a consistent worldview that aligns with PDP's racism, maybe that it's ok to be a bigot. Maybe it's ok to agree with white supremacists. Maybe it's true that people are all just too PC and SJWs are the real problem, etc.

Not speaking out against racism is pragmatically no different than supporting it because the end result is the same: Injustice is allowed to continue because there are no repercussions.

PDP needs to become a pariah for this and we need to assume that anyone in the community who doesn't condemn him either agrees with him or just doesn't think racism is a big deal. If your favorite YTer doesn't condemn him, unsubscribe and encourage others to do the same. Hit them in their pocketbooks.
