Avatar 2: First look at sequel's next generation cast.

Wanting Avatar to be "darker" is an odd concept to me. Part of the problem with Avatar was that it was actually a basic and over-dramatic story wrapped up in a very fantastical and adventurous world. Audiences reacted very strongly to the whimsical and awe-inspiring level of the visuals and allure of the fantasy of that world. People were far more split on the overly-serious pocahontas/dances with wolves story.

They've got a disney theme park now. It's probably best to take this in a more kids focused direction. Play up the wonder of that world. No doubt they'll continue with some of the themes from the first movie, but if they want to re-contextualize it from a younger perspective, I think that works way better for what that world was.

Two of the kids seem to think they've been cast as Spider-Man.

I think all of these kids will die within the first 30 minutes of Avatar 2 by a zombie Stephen Lang and then the rest of Avatar sequels will be a revenge series

He doesn't have to be a zombie if they revive him with the Dragon Balls.

When he fuses with Nail in Avatar 4 and becomes half-Namek, that's when shit gets crazy.

Well,it's not that bad after actually reading the op and not just overreacting with that pic without context.
They're just whathisname's children so that doent't imply that they are the main focus,i thought they replaced the entire cast from the first movie with just kids.
My bad,i'm a little more optimistic now.

That's why everybody's THIS FILM WILL SUCK NOW knee jerk reactions are pretty dumb.

I'm betting people will look back and be like "remember when people freaked out over the first image"

So like, wait. The avatars can breed? Why would the humans ever want the avatars to be capable of that?

They're literally mindless clones made from genuine Na'vi DNA and a tine amount of human DNA, there is no reason for them to not be able to reproduce.

What does? The kids?

You know this isn't a still from the film... yes?

I'm pretty sure this is a literal shot from the movie. Cameron is throwing a huge curveball and will shoot Avatar 2 directly on location in DisneyWorld. They will add blue paint to their faces in post.

If they went to the trouble of making genetic modifications, why would you not make breeding impossible? Given the racial and political attitudes on display... it'd make sense.

I completely agree, being dark and cynical should not be what Avatar is about, it will undermine what Avatar is strongest at: that magical wondrous world that people can't wait to go back and explore more.
we can have some elements of darkness I suppose, but not to the point of being distracting to what people like about the franchise.

I'm sick and tired of how no one on this hell message board takes Avatar seriously.

Oh plenty of people take it seriously, the fact that people are having a long discussion on whether it's a good idea to cast that many kids, and whether that will be focus of the sequel certainly means that people are taking it seriously.

I hope it works out. He will probably have my matinee ticket money no matter what unless I die before it comes out.

I do kinda wonder if Avatar 4/5 are gonna be a timejump forward, and we'll see older actors in their roles.

This isn't a great way to do a first look, but I sure as hell am not gonna jump to any conclusions about the film. Especially since all but one will be mocap characters.

Always skeptical on child actors, because child actors that can honestly act are so rare.

One thing's for sure, those kids (and their parents) are financially set for life.

I think people in this thread are vastly over-estimating how much one unknown child actor in a group of seven, as part of a larger cast, would get paid for taking part in a film franchise. I'm sure they'll get a healthy paycheck for doing these films back to back, but it's not like they're guaranteed a share of the box offices sales.

You know thinking about it, I'm guessing the kids are basically vehicles to showcase the wonders of this world as Sooli and Neytiri take them on a tour. Because it'd be weird having Jake only just coming across this stuff now after all this time. He's collected many blue scout badges so it's up to the kids to provide the audience with that sense of wonder.
