Did you try it with the ntsc patch?

I tried with, without, and also tried Tenchi Souzou. Only 1 times in 5 they manage to get past the Enix logo, and if they do there's no audio or screeching audio. Only the NTSC patch version actually gets to the point where I can control Ark (with the aforementioned silence or screeching).

Like the NES Mini emulator using HakChi, you can pass through command line arguments when booting a ROM. By using '-boost-fx 3' for instance, it overclocks the emulation of the SuperFX chip and Starfox runs a lot nicer.

As mentioned earlier, if you don't know, it's best to wait for the easy to use tools as it will show you how to use command lines better.

Sounds good, i would love star fox to run better at locked 30fps if possible. What is the best speed for this and does it mess up the audio or anything else?

I'll record a video later of stage 1 with the boost factor set to 3. (4 and above is where the audio goes screwy)

Instead of using an 8bitdo SN30/SF30, has anyone tried connecting their SNES Classic Controller to a Wiimote and paired it with the 8bitdo receiver as their wireless SNES controller solution? If so how does it feel?

Interesting...I'll give it a go tonight. Wonder if the home button on the wii mote will return to menu...
Have there been any updates with this? The retro receiver is tempting but I really want to get (input lag) impressions if possible. Bonus points if you also connect the SNES Classic Controller to PC using the receiver.

right thanks. Yeah im going to wait. I have enough to do with the games on the mini that i couldnt get of my pile of shame all these years. by then theres hopefully a download this, plug in this, press this solution :D

Just finished Super Metroid and I think im going to tackle Zelda next.

Found out vintage stock had 2 SNESCE last night so swung by there after dinner with the SO. They were still there, hell yeah. Except when they rang me up they said it was $160. I was confused for a sec and said "oh No, I don't want both. Just one." Turns out they were bundling it with an $80 gift card to their shop. I'm usually calm and not quick to anger but I blurted out "You're fuckin kidding me right?"

Seemed super fucking scummy.

Robin, can you try Air Strike Patrol and see if the shadow appears under the jet?

One of my favourite games as a kid, though I played it as Desert Fighter here in Europe. I'll definitely try it, though I'm at work right now so it will be a while.

Thanks! Will be interesting to see if the shadow is there, also wonder if Speedy Gonzales will have the deadlock issue.

Brief first impressions now i've got mine:
Menu screen is great and tells you which games are 2player
5 foot still isn't long enough for controllers, i've bought extenders
having the reset button on the console to get to the menu screen is really bad design and means you need wires going everywhere so the console is near you.
rewind mode is incredible and really helps considering how hard old games are.

my first game is metroid, never played before, liking it so far, it's hard.

Awesome, I recall seeing someone upping the speed for Star Fox & man, it looked soooo much better. That might be something I do when I get mine because that framerate & the fact Star Fox 64 exists hard to revisit

Made progress in a few games:

Donkey Kong Country: Cleared Jungle Hijinx, didn't save.
Star Fox: Cleared Corneria, unlocked Star Fox 2.
Super Mario Kart: Got gold on all cups in 50cc and 100cc.
Super Mario RPG: Defeated the Hammer Bros., made it to Mushroom Kingdom.
Super Mario World: Completed up to the Donut Plains Ghost House.
Zelda: A Link to the Past: Made it to Sanctuary.
Yoshi's Island: Cleared level 1-1 with a perfect score.

I tried out Pixel Perfect mode, it looks really good. Think I'm going to play all of the games like this instead of in 4:3.

but i have read many people say the snes jr is effectively emulation of the original hardware in a lot of respects, lots of odd behaviour as a result.

Yeah, it's a bit of a weird one. The following games are known to have glitches:

Air Strike Patrol
Treasure of the Rudras
Aladdin
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Demon’s Crest
Soul Blazer
Magical Pop’N
Super Ghouls N’ Ghosts

And Super FX games seem to run slower.

Currently trying to blast through as much as I can for video footage - but not so much that I burn myself out on the games I'm playing

A lot of fun so far! Megaman X and FF3 certainly aren't as daunting as I was worrying about (though Contra 3 certainly is)

Ended up switching over to using a Wii Classic Controller though - the SNES d-pad was a little too mushy for my liking, and having the reset functionality on the home button is a saving grace.

I thought it would be a good idea to have a general LTTP thread reserved for SNES Mini game talk, since this thread tends to be heavily preorder / order / shipping / availability posts and the Stump thread is Super Mario World only. It might be too many threads though.

It's been a decade easy since I played Yoshi's Island SNES edition. The game hasn't aged a day! The stuff they do technically combined with the superb art is great! It's so good to play this version again instead of the inferior GBA version the tried shoving down our throats...

Best feature has to be the idle Mario and Luigi who dive into your save games and you get to see yourself play up to the point where you hit reset. Simply Fantastic!

Can't wait to get some of my other childhood highlights on there:

Maui Mallard
Terranigma
Asterix & Obelix
Illusion of Time
Goof Troop
Donkey Kong Country 2 & 3

I will get a lot of mileage out of this system.

.

Really cool wee feature. I need to make some more save states though - the ones I had play for me were crashing and exploding on F-Zero and getting annihilated by Dragon Chan on Super Punch Out - not my finest moments.

They also go into settings and (fake) change your display settings from CTR to Pixel Perfect :)

I only played the GBA version of Yoshi's Island, but absolutely loved it back then. Mario platformers always were my favorite series but having missed out on the entire SNES library I caught up with SMW and YI on GBA.

What differences/improvements are in the SNES original vs the GBA port?

The original SNES one has more screen shown, as the obvious thing.
It also has the classic Yoshi sound effects, before he started talking.
Touch Fuzzy Get Dizzy is a much smoother effect on the SNES.
A set of 6 extra levels were added to the GBA one.

Doesn't sound like that big of a deal tbh. I'll brush off people hating on the GBA version as elitism :p

Walmart has yet again double-charged my credit card (pending) for my August 22nd order, except this time the charge has an 800 number in the description. The previous ones didn't. I have no idea what that means.

Well, the art pops way more, since the gba version had to be designed to compensate with the missing backlights.

My memory also thinks that the fx chip effects were severely downgraded, but that might just be memory.

Oh, and the Ost is more impressive on the SNES.

The hardware seems to have trouble emulating the FX chip at 3, though. The emulation speed (i.e., the audio and all) slows down in parts where there are too many things on screen.

Also, I'm pretty sure changing the FX emulation speed will de-sync the classic demo feature and replays for save states that were made using a different setting.

Ok now we're talking. I'll check it out on the SNES Mini, as I don't think I ever finished it on the GBA (but almost got to the end).

A shame. But it stands to reason they didn’t enable the feature if it had problems. It was likely a test that didn’t work out as they wanted. DS games on Wii U have a similar dummied out option where you can increase the res, but that has side effects too.

They triple charged me. I ordered 1 unit on August 22.
