My Amazon UK order got in today! Played some SMW earlier and I was like wtf is this horrendous input lag until I realized I forgot to set my KS8000 into Game mode. Made me realize how unforgiving these games are with the lag you get from modern HDTVs.
Makes a huge difference

Plays great on my KU6290, but on my old TV, some retro stuff was borderline unplayable

Anyone have issues with getting special moves to register on Street Fighter? I don't know if it's the controllers or what, but I know how to do these moves and they're not working. Haha

I had the same issue for the brief time I got to play it. Couldn't do classic Tiger Knee for crap. And oddly enough, I could get Psycho Crushers out but not Scissors Kicks :p

Most games are pretty unforgiving with any sort of input lag. I've found myself losing fights with drowners in Witcher 3 because I forgot to set game mode. But yeah, 16-bit era platforming is not something that can be done with any input lag whatsoever. I keep booting up Mario with the TV set to a custom movie mode and it's just unplayable.

Don't stores usually restock on Thursdays? I'm thinking about swinging by Walmart and Target in the morning.

Targets get a truck usually every Tuesday and Thursdays of product or least that's how my store was when I worked there. In the morning before the store opens they restock different things. However usually there's a daily delivery that comes midday for electronics most weekdays. Around idk 1-3 is when I got the call to head to the dock and then I'd set it up. A lot of the time it's unreleased games that's not out yet or things in the ad that they need restocked that they got in.

Again that's just how my store was so it might vary. Most stores do get at least 2 trucks a week though, absolutely.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Been messing around on a few games. I'm definitely finding the CRT filter acceptable, but I'll likely still swap to scanline-only once hackchi is up and running.

I thought it made things blurry as fuck. Which sucks 'cause I want my scanlines. Wish there was just an option for the scanlines, but not whatever other filter is going on.
It's probably the smoothing to make the pixels look less prominent. I like it this way. Looks like how games looked back in the day.

Might sound strange, but I thought someone mentioned having problems on a specific display setting. Not sure if that's possible, not just in case try switching between pixel perfect and others to see if there's a difference.

It's been such a bummer that this and cuphead both came out on the same day, having to split my time between the two is rough #FirstWorldProblems

Thankfully MMX and KSS are just as great as I remember.q SoM a little less so, the beginning few hours are a little tedious and suffers from a pared down story translation, but the boss battles are still where the game shines brightest. StarFox is also rough around the edges, but the sequel is pretty much better in every respect except for the also tedious dogfights

Can anybody PM me a link to stock NES Mini kernel image? I lost mine :(

Also mods sorry in advance if this is disallowed - feel free to delete or edit out if so.

My SNES won’t be here for another week. Damn UK-US shipping, shouldn’t have gone with the cheapest option :/

I was playing Earthbound and noticed a bug fairly quickly during battle. The screen slows the shake effect when an enemy attacks and slowly blurs? The damage doesn't roll down either, its more instant. Looks like this youtube video I found: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cQWen7x6IBo

Anyone else have this issue?

Can anyone else comment on this? I’ve heard of the visual changes but not about damage not rolling anymore. Surely that can’t be right....?

Thanks, it worked! Only seems to work on 4:3

There are fewer HP being taken away from the attack in the SNES sample, so it doesn’t take as long I believe. It’s only a few HP.

Well it doesn't happen on every attack and damage still rolls. Its just whenever this blur effect happens it seems damage becomes more instant to me. But it could be because of the low hp numbers at the moment.

So I'm realizing that I've never played a Punch Out game before and I have no idea what I'm doing. I guess I should look up that manual since the game itself explains nothing.

Speaking of explaining nothing, I was impressed that the Kirby 8-minigame thing has a bunch of detailed animated / interactive tutorials, as well as move lists for the various abilities.

It's the opposite for me. Nearly all flawless victories,

Nintendo made changes to Earthbound from the original cart as an anti-seizure measure. Some of the flashing lights from OG Earthbound may trigger seizures in children, so it was changed in future re-releases.

What is there to explain? You wait for the enemy to attack, you dodge, then you attack them.

Once you get good enough, you learn their patterns and will be able to either attack them before they attack you, or you can attack them at the same time they attack you. That sometimes results in them getting dizzy, which you can then use to knock them out in one hit.

You can sometimes beat a fighter in seconds if you figure how and when to make them dizzy.

I'm having that problem with Star Fox 2, which is god awful.

PO is a puzzle game. The objective is to understand the opponent's patterns and weaknesses to try and down them with a TKO (3 knock downs in one round). You build a meter that unleashes a Super Punch to drain a lot of your opponent's HP. There are key windows of opportunity to down your opponent with one punch, such as when Bald Bull charges you.

If you leave the game on the title screen, it goes through a in-depth tutorial / demo of mechanics and controls.

I don't know. I play my real SNES and NES on a CRT all the time, and it doesn't look that blurry. Granted, the systems have been modded for component out, and the Trinitron TV is nicer than anything I had as a kid.

I just wish there was a simple scanlines option, instead of it being locked in with whatever other filter is going on.

I get that part. I was referencing his claim that damage wasn’t “rolling” anymore

So for someone who never dabbled in the SNES era and typically only plays RPGs for the most part, which game should I dive in first? I've narrowed it down to:

-Earthbound
-Final Fantasy VI
-Secret of Mana
-Zelda: LTTP

Also, I can probably link this up to my Macbook and use it as a monitor, right? I haven't had a chance to open up my package and test it out yet.

Got my mini today, finally. Had my 8 & 9 yo daughters playing for about 2 hours. They dig it much more than I thought they would. My younger daughter has a knack for street fighter. My older daughter who's never really played many racing games or used a dpad much is like a straight up wizard in f-zero. They started earthbound and are hooked, waiting to play tomorrow. The whole experience got me a bit misty eyed, lol.

Guys, my will to not buy from a scalper is starting to waiver. I've heard no news or seen any signs for the next shipment of SNES Classics to stores.

I am seeing some posts in my local area of someone selling it for $130. I think I might break down and just buy it.

Zelda for sure. Its a GOAT, its not crazy long, and its just plain fun to play. For the RPG's Final Fantasy 1st.

Amazon JP had more stock for sale earlier, and stores had some again.

Should be similar for NA and EU soon.

Don't do it friend, they don't deserve it.

I decided to keep my unit despite having a corner of the box crushed a bit in the shipping process, everything else is perfect and I kinda really wanted to play with it tonight, heh.

I started with DKC and went to World 6 in one sitting, I'll be done with it tomorrow probably.

Then me and a friend played some Contra III and went to stage 3 before stopping and we started a game of SMW where we reached World 3.

Productive evening! After DKC I think I'm going with Zelda while finishing SMW on the side.

Give it a month or so, and make sure you're signed up for Wario64 / nowinstock / Target / whatever for notifications. There is pretty much guaranteed to be at least one more shipment before it's discontinued.

I ended up snagging one for $120 on Ebay. It hurt to pay even more but I had no interest in waiting/dealing with low stock.

I’d do:

1. Zelda
2. Earthbound
3. FF VI
4. Mana

It’s an anti-epilepsy measure. Most of the games on the system have been slightly modified in places to tone down or outright remove heavy flashes or brightness changes.

Since no one else is saying it: Final Fantasy VI is one of the best RPGs of all time... and so is Earthbound. But yeah maybe Zelda might be a friendlier, pick-up-and-play introduction to the SNES.
