Cool, thanks for the help. I deleted both the save and the hash file before copying my save over, but yeah unfortunately that didn't work.

The system doesn't care if the hash file exists because it also appends the save hash to the end of the sram file itself. You need to generate a SHA-1 hash and append it to the end of the file to keep the emulator from throwing it out.

I haven't actually tried this yet, but it should work.

Edit: Just tried it. Successfully moved over a Chrono Trigger save file from a playthrough I started a few weeks ago.

The kernel won't change now. It's identical to the NES one with a few paths changed. Feel free to go ahead and use this, when newer releases are out just drop the new files in the folder you have for this.

Great, once again, thank you for your efforts! Your tutorial is top-notch.

This has been refuted by so many people so many times. Not only have they registered the N64 Classics controller logo already (which doesn't necessarily mean they WILL do it but they're clearly thinking about it) but dozens upon dozens of Gaffers have made lists of much more than 10 games to fill out a hypothetical N64 Classic. Heck even if you only included Nintendo games and none from 3rd parties you'd get over 10.

How many of those are realistic and consider the fact that they have to had any sort of impact, are not M-rated, are not caught up in licensing or publisher hell, have history of having been emulated officially, don't pretty much exclusively have appeal because of 4-player because they're sure as hell not gonna ship with 4 controller and if NES Classic has taught us anything, tracking down the controllers on top of the system itself is a pain.

I got to a list of 10 with SNES/NES Classic-caliber games and then things start looking grim. Patents are meaningless.

Apologies if this has already been answered but around how many games are we looking at being able to add? I have 87 SNES carts, is that too many?

Nice, need to find a retrode and rip my old saves from my carts!

Agree with this, and isn't N64 just a lot harder to emulate than NES and SNES? It just seems far more pricey to do an N64 Classic, even if the demand is there. They might just transition to a more traditional VC route after the new year, around the time they start the paid online service (I actually think they'll tie the two together).

Are there two versions of Hakchi2 now, one for NES and one for SNES, or is it just one program for both systems? I'll probably wait a bit to see if Krusty's Super Fun House gets figured out, I was actually looking forward to replaying that after all these years hahaha

Microsoft probably wouldn't mind letting Nintendo use Perfect Dark & Banjo either.

Add to that the fact that even just shipping a box with one N64 controller in it makes this bulkier than the SNES/NES Classic with two. Unless they break and make a smaller version of the controller. The whole endeavor just brings with it so so so many cumbersome problems from a design, shipping, licensing pov for a console that already had limited appeal, market, and mindshare. Compare that against what the SNES/NES Classic are and there ya go. N64 Classic ain't coming.

Oh and there's the bonus issue of localization which already screwed up N64 VC on Wii U again since you'll have fun selling an Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask machine with English-only ROMs in Europe. SNES nostalgia is for older folks who can be expected to either know the game by heart or know their English well enough to get by, especially with the other RPGs that never got localized anyway. Not sure they wanna do that with OoT/MM/Paper Mario. If you go with localized ROMs, you'll be in stutter-territory with 50Hz ROMs running on forced 60Hz outputs again like on Wii U VC which made people's faces melt off in the Downloads Thread some moons again.

Yep. I think there are a lot of people here (including me) that have so many fond memories of the N64, but I don't think that console actually has the widespread appeal of the NES or SNES or Game Boy (and that classic ain't happening either). Add all the other issues it has, that you outlined, and you've got more than enough reason to avoid it. Just put those games on the Switch. They'll sell, again.

Man, why do spider bosses have to be so hard in videogames? The one in the Sigma stages of Mega Man X is really grinding my gears...

Mischief Makers.

I just need to know if x2 and x3 work lol.

they do.

Is the issue limited to the character select screen, or does it pop up somewhere else in the game?

i couldn't tell you exactly where else it appears in the game as i played it on the bsnes accuracy core in retroarch which outputs at an integer of the hi-res mode at all times to mitigate the issue. the 240p gets doubled to fit within the higher res.

But there's an obvious frame skip. Its perfectly smooth, with a somewhat regular skip every second or so. I need to pull out my old SNES to see if it's the same there.

if there was frameskip applied then the game would be running at 30fps with a 60hz output. what you are seeing is the slight mismatch between the solid 60hz of you hdtv and what the snes classic outputs and the original snes hardware which ran slightly faster at 60.08hz. it will run perfectly smooth on a crt as it would have been able to match the exact refresh of the original console.

Does this work with hacked ROMs ? Like fan translated games?
I want to play Bahamut Lagoon and Ys 5 and many other Japanese games that have been translated over the years that I missed .

I am so playing old games tonight!

Yes, I have Final Fantasy V on my hacked SNES.

Also, all saves from the OG games are still there.

Those are the ones that I would call NES/SNES Classic-tier

Also needs Mystical Ninja, Star Wars, Body Harvest, Conker and Goldeneye

I kind of want to make a custom FFV cover for mine that says 'FF 2.5', lol

already insta killed two off the list due to licensing hell and no re-release history. I legit forgot about f-zero x lol (one of my faves ironically) and the mario sports games. if anything, mario party would take up another spot.

regardless, it's a wonky list that can't really compete with the other classic systems. it's just a list of "that's what we can get" for the most part.

Doom 64 absolutely needs another release if the N64 Mini becomes a thing.

never happening. M-rated.

a complete fantasy n64 classic could have an amazing selection of games, but a realistic one, not so much.

23. Mario Party 2
24. Ogre Battle 64
25. Goemon’s Great Adventure
26. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon

There are a ton of great n64 titles that could make the n64 classic great.

Turok seems like it has a good shot since it was remastered

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM 64 hype please

Bomberman 64 the second attack as well because the cart for that game is an insane price

Mario golfs mini golf mode was so fun

Thanks for hosting a pre-release of this for us Robin. I plan on using the ROM files I dumped form my Wii and some of them have a bad checksum according to snes9x. I doubt they will be an issue but it is all I have until I can find a decent cartridge dumping tool.

Goemon has some emulation issues, iirc

Sorry if this was answered. Do translation patches work? Ex: Seiken Densetsui 3

Yes, all that matters it that the original game works. (SD3 does not as of now, missing high res mode)

That's a shame. I guess a PC with G-Sync is the only way to get perfectly stutter free emulation?

How would Harvest Moon 64's licensing end up working?

I was hoping it would be on the SNES (well Harvest Moon obv) and was disappointed when it wasn't. Beside it being pretty niche, I assumed it had something to do with the weird licensing between 'Harvest Moon' and 'Story of Seasons'

harvest moon 64 came out on Wii U VC this year. (for the first time after a long long period of "we can't do it")

natsume owns harvest moon, they'll keep putting out harvest moon.

I don't think so. I have a couple of CEC devices like the switch and chromecast and I have to switch inputs after turning the system on.

darn, CEC is so nice.
