For those of us who love japanese games, it would take some major work to surpass 2017 IMO

Nah.

Ni no Kuni II.
Dragon Quest XI.
Kingdom Hearts III, though I ain't here for that.
Trails of Cold Steel 3, possibly.
Yakuza 6: Song of Life
Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Dissidia NT
Dragonball FighterZ
Monster Hunter World
Code Vein
Dynasty Warriors 9
Shadow of the Colossus remake
SAO: Fatal Bullet

2018 is not playing. I think all those years of "it got pushed back, it got pushed back" finally caught up with us, and now all those games are coming out back to back over the past and next 12 months, so two years of craziness for people who kept claiming the PS4 wasn't a good purchase.

The anime takeover for the first half is lovely
Sao fatal bullet
Seven deadly sins knight of britannia
Little witch academia
Naruto to boruto strikers
Dragon ball fighterz

Anime fan heaven lol

But how do you know, at the time of release when Nioh was coming out on PS4, there was a PC version even planned? Koei Tecmo probably decided to port it after the PS4 version was received so well.

Sometimes these plans are made at a later date.

The attitude over the last few pages of this thread is funny. Go back a few months and Sony was having one of its best years ever, and now the sentiment is completely different despite the release schedule looking as strong as ever. Gamers are so fickle.

This. Especially for Nioh. It was in development so long (that the project even got rebooted) that I doubt it was even originally intended for PC until it did really well.

Good shit. That's not even counting all the exclusive/console exclusive stuff from their 3rd party publishers.

Yeah, absolutely amazing year. And 2018 is shaping up to be another, such a stacked amount of games planned for even just the first half of the year. :)

Wow really great output in quantity. I own HZD and bought its DLC + Nioh from that list.
I was thinking about the reviews of sony first party studios and comparing it to last gen. Man it is not comparable at all. I've list all sony first party studios (like naughty dog, santa , ...) games which are +90 on metacritics.

PS3
1)Uncharted 2 (96)
2) Little Big Planet (95)
3) The Last of Us (95)
4) God of War 3 (92)
5) Uncharted 3 (92)
6) Little Big Planet 2 (91)
7) MLB the Show 10 (91)
8) Killzone 2 (91)
9) MLB the Show 11 (90)
10) MLB the Show 9 (90)

10 games: San Diego (3 games), Naughty Dog (3 games), Media Molecule (2 games), Santa (1 game) and Guerilla (1 game)

PS4
1) Uncharted 4 (93)
????

Only 1 game which is really disappointing till now.

Note: Only studios of sony are listed. No co-developed or 3rd party or remaster games.
Note 2: I was just curious about this. I don't mean this gen is good or bad just a bit of info that was interesting to me I shared with you guys.

Do you think it will reach 10 games this gen or not? which games you think will go to that list?

Yakuza Kiwami 2 will probably release in the west next year also. Hopefully Fist of the North Star but I can see that being early 2019 in the west. Maybe a new From Software game next year also

DMC5 is next year believe

Review scores were inflated last gen. A lot of stuff that got low 90s last gen would get mid to low 80s this gen.

You are comparing the review system that has changed a lot over the last few years. It's harder to score in the 90 nowadays.

I agree generally but disagree with other aspect. If devs make a really great game it will get +90 score no matter which year it is released. You can't blame reviewers for ps4 short list of +90 games.

Does sony have great shooter which should have been on the +90 list and is not because of reviewers?
Does sony have a great racing game which should be on the list?
Does sony have a game like LBP this gen that is not on the list?
Does ....

So you can see it is because of the output of the studios not review system change.

I think Horizon Zero Dawn is by far the best game Guerilla Games have made, and it has a metascore of 89, lower than Killzone 2.

Their output has been slow this gen so you need to wait for games to come out. The next two years will add a lot more. Plus the bottom 5 has 3 of the same sports games plus they are around 90 so something like horizon barely missing out because of an outlier review should count.

I don't think 10's were handed out like candy last gen. So uncharted or Tlou have candy 10's? Of course not ...

Exactly so output of the studios is the matter. We had 4 naughty dog full games last gen. 3 MM games ... If we assume 2020 is the PS5 year we don't have enough first party studio games to the end. They said because of ps4 architecture making games are easier this gen but we see ps3 had better output ...

With Spider-Man being a thing, i'm much more open to what Sucker Punch is working on. Unless it's horror. Moving around the locations in Infamous always felt pretty great, especially in Second Son and i think Spidey might fill the void just fine.

So yea, i'm ready to say goodbye to Infamous for now. Really excited to see SPs new game!

Their Infamous horror game was one of the best I've played, more monster of the week than the majority of horror games.

This post contains many misconceptions and pet peeves I see infiltrated too much nowadays from users who make hay out of nothing, so let's go over a few points:

1) The first and most important thing is reliance to scores. It just shows me that people don't read reviews and don't judge games based on things outside of numbers.

You put three MLB The Show games on the PS3 list. Can you tell me why you think the PS4 ones are of lesser quality, or are you just looking at the scores?

2) PS4 is easier to develop for, but the PS3 gen's games were smaller. Uncharted 4 was the first new game from Naughty Dog this gen and is far larger in scope than any of the PS3 Uncharted games. Uncharted 1 was inflated by waves of enemies, less grand set pieces and less work in general. It scored in the high 80s; it would NOT score close to Horizon Zero Dawn (also in the high 80s) if released now.

A PS4 AAA game will take more resources, more manpower, than a PS3 game, regardless of the fact that the PS3 was difficult to develop for.

3) Horizon Zero Dawn is a more ambitious game than Killzone 2 and 3, yet Guerrilla has already produced the same amount of games as last gen despite the grander scale. Even if their only game was Horizon (and it's not), that's more content than both of those Killzone campaigns. There's more to gaming than amount of games.

4) Excluding games for "reasons" ("I'm not including Bloodborne because it wasn't fully made by Sony Japan") is a usual video game board meme that's annoying and produces bad conversation. Bloodborne exists because Sony approached From Software and helped to publish and produce it. And humorously enough, it's one of my favorite games this gen yet came out a little over a year after the PS4 released.

5) What's with this video game message board obsession with comparing the time within a gen to the amount of games released? "Man, we already had two Uncharteds at this point." Yeah, we have two right now... and I'd take 4 and TLL over 1 - 3 as I only put 2 on the same level as the PS4 ones (though with gameplay that's not as good), but hey, at least you get the undercooked Uncharted 1, and since that makes three games, I guess that's better?

1/3 were flops for sure but I hope Sony won't stop doing this. We need more variety and unique ideas.

I dont think thats a problem inherent to this publisher only, but to the industry as a whole. How many shooters overall would fit into that category that have released this gen? Titanfall 2 and Overwatch maybe? What about racing games? Forza Horizon 3 and maybe one of the Motorsports?

And thats pretty straighforward to understand. They are not making projects that have the same scope that last gen projects had, they are making bigger games, with more detail, better amimations, more gameplay elements, bigger enviroments, better AI. That will take more time, and more money too

I will agree and make a point that in the racing genre, they screwd up big this time. GT6 should have been a cross platform game (Pupeteer and Beyond Two Souls should have been too), Driveclub is an awesome game, but the broken launch rightfully played down its perception, and GTS might not be what people expected for a GT game, but that is still out there for judgement

The shooter genre in the other way is pretty obvious what happened. They partnered heavily with Destiny, Call Of Duty, Battlefront and moved away from those kinds of games in the traditional way and invested in PSVR FPS's instead.

Hey people,

What are you excited for PGW?

Of what we know I find Wild the most interesting to see more.
I want to know about Dreams but I need to see how much it will need ps+. If I need a sub to access others creations I'll pass.
I don't really need to know more about Horizon DLC, I'm already sold on that.
And of course, new stuff hopefully.

I think Dreams is a very hard product to market for Sony. I wonder if they market as a game or a creation tool service.

What do you mean? Matterfall didn't release during PSX, it was last August.

What I meant to say New Trailer at PGW with a release date of December aka PSX so a 2 months gap.

I'm interested in whatever else Xdev is up to these days. It seems like they're mostly overseeing PlayLink and VR games but I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that there could be some other AA stuff in the works. The Euro conference is traditionally where we see a lot of that stuff.

Dreams will come back with a robust single player segment. That is where the marketing will go.

I was thinking about Dreams the other day, it's highly unlikely but for the type of game it is would have been cool if Sony got some people from other studios to contribute to the single player campaign. Would be pretty fitting and get me super hyped for the game. Again very very unlikely, but it would be amazing to see a snip of all those creative minds in one place with these tools.

If they really wanted to be cool the campaign would embody Sony’s ip. Have characters in one campaign all from different Sony ip now that would be cool...and funny

An interesting idea for sure. I just don't know how it would work out in terms of implementation.

Sly Cooper
PGW would become the best conference of the year with that alone.
