Super Mario Odyssey - Review Thread

But there’s far more than 1. You should also get BotW, MK8D and Mario+Rabbids at a minimum.
Golf Story and Disgaea 5 are great on the go as well.

Yeah, I eventually got to the point where I was seeing every review for 90% of the switch games getting high scores and just went for it. Now I spend 90% of my time playing my Switch at home, I don't regret it at all.

Still trying to work through Mario & Rabbids before tomorrow after work so I can play Odyssey all the time.

Likely having two 95+ scored games in the same year, in 2017. An incredible achievement, most games don't even score 90+ anymore. Reviews overall became a lot stricter.

Highest rated game of all time on Opencritic currently, holding at a 98/100.

Holy shit guys.

Don't worry.
Everytime a good game emerges, there is a bunch of stupid people that gives low score only to try to make people enter on their sites.

I personally will never enter on these sites unless it's truly justified the low score (what in many cases are not)

They're the 2 highest rated games of the last 3 years, at least. The last score game to score as high was Grand Theft Auto V.

Started playing yesterday. It’s fantastic so far.

Only complaint is that it seems certain actions require motion controls. I don’t like split joycon mode, and performing motion controls on the pro controller feels awkward. Even worse in handheld mode. Perhaps there’s a way to perform said actions with the buttons.

Something I put together to celebrate this glorious game...

I understand that.

Listen, this website I wrote it for only gives whole and half numbers, like 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, etcetera. I guess I would be around 9.7 if that was a possibility on the website, but its not.

This is a fantastic game, just under Breath of the Wild for my game of the year, or maybe on the same height as Horizon.

1. I found it mostly easy, but once you have to search for the more challenging power moons after getting the easy ones it gets harder of course. It never challenged me as much as some of the last levels in 3D World though.

2. Big enough in the sense that there are hundreds and hundreds of power moons. There is a lot of after-credits content, mostly in getting more power moons from the levels you unlock during the game. Ive played through the main game in about 8 hours, but the meat of the game is going back to the levels after that and getting everything,

Metro Gamecentral highlight potential problems with pacing and overall difficulty outside of the plentiful smaller challenges. They note it's not massively bigger than past Mario games but obviously they don't think it affects an overall hugely positive experience. They specify that post game will give veteran Mario fans a lot of bang for their buck.

Gameexplain review says the story itself "can" be rushed in 10-12 hours, but there is over 50 hours of content in the game. Lots and lots of postgame stuff.

Thanks for letting me know. Sounds like a lot of replay value then. Would you say there are enough worlds and are they big enough?

Wow, Metacritic servers are being battered right now. It has to be because of Odyssey, right? Never seen that happen with a game release before.

I'm conflicted about the game's difficulty.

I DO appreciate challenging games, especially platformers since I play so many games with platforming mechanics.

That said, Galaxy, Galaxy 2, 3D Land, and 3D World were ALL easy to me except for the very very endgames of those titles. It's not surprising that Odyssey sticks with a more easygoing approach.

Rather than an intense experience, I'll go in expecting a laid back, free-roaming adventure that I can relax with on the couch or in bed (or when I'm drunk or high and not particularly coordinated. Hah).

I'm really hoping Odyssey deserves these scores unlike Zelda. It's looked absolutely amazing at every turn.

Zelda does deserves that score. It was one of the games which i felt like playing it four hours and hours without been bored. It's been a very long time that a enjoyed a game that much.

Nintendo you crazy bastards!

Insane to basically open and close the year like this, First Year Console Support 101. O_O

A focused on one console Nintendo could do really amazing things here...

Well Odyssey is a big part, but reviews on AC Origins and Wolfenstein are being reviewed today too. It's just a huge day for games.

The game is sitting at 99.05% on Gamerankings after 29 reviews, and currently the highest rated video game of all-time.

Just let that sink in.

reading around that the game it's a bit too esy..that will probably take a couple of points out of my personal score...that's the same reason why i didn't like galaxy as much as the majority did,but i loved galaxy 2

44 critics in and its 97 on Metacritic. Nintendo stays winning in 2017, i think with this Nintendo will win the holiday season if they can stock up the shelves with enough Switch units.

I predicted this would be the highest scoring Mario (platforming) game ever. Looks like I'm gonna be right. Time to buy a Switch

Said 96 maybe 97 and it's sitting at 97 atm. Will be crazy if Nintendo gets 2 97 games in one year.

Not to mention the Mario Rabbids game, Mario Kart, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem, and a ton of great indies. Excellent time to be a PC/Nintendo gamer.
