Super Mario Odyssey - Review Thread

Not to mention the Mario Rabbids game, Mario Kart, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem, and a ton of great indies. Excellent time to be a PC/Nintendo gamer.
Yeah, it's hard to imagine seeing the Switch as a system you'd buy for one game only, in the sense that you ONLY want that one game.

I'm using Odyssey as an excuse to jump into the Switch ecosystem, but just the selection of indie titles has me elated. I'll probably grab Golf Story right away.

I'll try to answer some questions if there are any.

In the E3 I noticed there were some "episodic" moons like the ones in Super Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy, with an introduction showing the objective, a bit of storytelling and a more elaborated path in order to reach it. For instance, I remember that in Tostarena first you have to reach the summit of some ruins, then complete a puzzle area capturing a Moai and then entering an upside down pyramid, and those three challenges had their own introduction and objetive.

I would like to know if each world has these episodic moons and if so, how many (roughly) can we expect in each area. Thank you very much.

Since there are so many moons, is there a good way to keep track of which moons exactly you already have?

Very excited to play it this weekend. I do love that Nintendo still makes games that you just know are going to be awesome.

I don't remember a twofer quite like this and BOTW. Maybe Last of Us and GTA V? But one of those wasn't exclusive, still it's the closest I can think of. Stay beautiful Ninty.

Looking good, but a bit concerned about the game being too easy. Exploration is fun but I also like a good challenge.

Sure, in the pause menu you can see which moons you have and which not. The ones you have not are of course blanked out until you find them.

Yes, each world has these episodic moons, they are part of the story. Once you begin the game will push you to the various levels story wise and each world have these episodic moons. After the credits you get to visit each level as much as you like and get all the normal moons you've missed (there will be lots), as well as new ones.

that was expected and probably well earned, Nintendo finally made a REAL 3d mario, they haven't done that since Sunshine

if Zelda wasn't already on Wii u and Monster hunter world was not coming to PS4, i would have bought switch early next year

but Mario alone is not enough for me

Thank you, but I was wondering how many of these episodic moons can we expect per world!

Good thing the switch has splatoon 2, arms, snipperclips, and a ridiculous amount of great indie titles.

Have fun with yours!

Holy jesus!

I'm really impressed. I mean, I saw the trailers and I thought the game looked awesome, better thatn 3D World (which that one was a great game). Now I look at the scores Odyssey is getting and I regret not being an early adopter as I was with the Wii U...

the metascore is 97, Breath of the wild is also 97, both are Nintendo games

few weeks ago i said that reviewers go easy on Nintendo games and lots of gaffer jumped on me

i'm not saying that the game doesn't deserve high scores, it probably does, but why would BOTW and Mario get 97MC but Witcher 3 gets 92MC ? even though Witcher 3 is better than Zelda and probably without a doubt better than any Mario game released

Nintendo holding all the good reviews hostage. Sad!

Unbelievable. Nintendo made lightning strike twice, in the same year! It boggles the mind how their dev teams can find a way to innovate after 30 years, flip the script on what it means to be a Mario or Zelda game, and still produce world class games.

Well in good news there's every chance this narrative you're pushing here will be more welcome around these parts.

There's barley anyone left of so-called 'NintendoGaf' to get even mildly annoyed at your comments anymore.

Fire away with 'teh bias!'

It's all good :)

Not for me... Zelda>TW3. Both completed 100%.

Because some reviewers cry when they play Nintendo games.

Even if the gameplay is a solid 10, graphics are not.

Because Mario has amazing gameplay. The thing that matters the most, by far.

because that's your opinion, and not an opinion the critics agree with

Console wars are so lame.

Because some reviewers cry when they play Nintendo games.

Even if the gameplay is a solid 10, graphics are not.

And Witchers gameplay is not even an 8. I don't understand how it's so difficult to grasp the fact that good games review well.
